Hi all,

I started this thread for anyone who wants to come here for lite discussion, jokes, and just general discussion and fun.

Everyone is welcome!

I was thinking that maybe it would be helpful to keep the original thread to a bit more of a serious discussion of the clues and answers.

This would make the original thread more useful to those seeking serious information and clues without having to read through hundreds of extraneous messages.

So, I hope it catches on !

So pop a beer and pull up a chair and relax !

Everything will be white except for the part of the stairs that you step on but Sam is building the stars. He added on another $5,000 yesterday because of his finding the double floor. I could see a few thousand because it held the workers up maybe 1 day. The leak is also on the right as there is a part of the roof that comes down about a foot high and he has to take the shingles off that. goes down to the right corner on the deck which you cannot see up against the wall and my dining room is under the deck.

Now contractor wants to add another $5,000 on for the removal of the extra flooring. He has me because all is exposed and rain is due. Don't know what I will do this time. Sam has to get involved.
Quote from 123veas :
Why not tell him NO? Sam is capable of tarping it for rain, tell him Sam will remove the flooring and then he can continue.

This is the old deck. I sat here for a long time trying to remember how to do this. I think i did it right? Edit: it is here. This is worth $25,000??
Cool place, I like the matching guest house too. Is that where poor 'Sammy the Slave' stays when he comes home after a 16 hr work day and can't seem to muster up the energy to climb those stairs just to drop into bed knowing he's got a never ending string of 16 hr work days ahead of him??????.......Please give him a break, He's old and retired now and can not take the pace you expect of him anymore!! I'd like to see a today's tore up pic if ya can.

One day, while a blonde was out driving her car, she ran into a truck.
The truck's driver made her pull over into a parking lot and get out of the car.
He took a piece of chalk and drew a circle on the pavement. He told her to stand in the middle and not leave the circle.
Furious, he went over to her car and slashed the tires.
The blonde started laughing.
This made the man angrier so he smashed her windshield.
This time the blonde laughed even harder.
Livid, the man broke all her windows and keyed her car.
The blonde is now laughing hysterically, so the truck driver asks her what's so funny.
The blonde giggles and replies, "When you weren't looking, I stepped out of the circle three times!"
Good Morning Peeps
Good one!

Did you choose to hire the travel agent? or were you told to do that when you won?

Congrats on the win!
Regarding the deck:
What does the original quote state is covered by the $$ quoted? Usually labor hours, removal costs, permits, and materials are quoted separately?
How many labor hours were in the original quote? How many additional will be required?
I have heard that when having a repair/renovation, as new things occur, revised costs have to be addressed. But I know nothing of labor/material/damaged material removal costs, permits etc. in NJ. Having said all of that, $5000 is a suspiciously round number isn't it?
You aren't just having a deck removed, but also a new roof/barrier installed above the kitchen to protect it from having this occur again. Are you having gutters/downspouts included also?

BTW, it is a lovely house and very nice back area! The picture is great!

Good Luck to all!

Ok, poor sammy had a new job today. He took pics of (finally) the tv and entertainment center I won. then we toured the torn up messed up yard and I have to go thru them because it copied every pic he ever took from his little camera disc. So I will put them up soon. Demolition. Dogs, some flower beds. I told him Sprok insisted i put some up so he did them because i followed him around with his camera after the workers left. So he is off to dinner with my grandson. wave

No gutters are good. Just replacing what you see up there with the wooden railing around it and some roof work on the side, which I now have a pic of. He did not enumerate a price for each item he was doing, just listed them. I agreed to that figure, but $5,000 more just to remove another layer of wood seems too much. 1 1/2 days extra work. I think something around $2,500 would be fair. I will see in the morning.

See the new little deck that was not in the pic of before construction. Sam built this last year instead of my little steps, so he is quite capable.
