Hi all,

I started this thread for anyone who wants to come here for lite discussion, jokes, and just general discussion and fun.

Everyone is welcome!

I was thinking that maybe it would be helpful to keep the original thread to a bit more of a serious discussion of the clues and answers.

This would make the original thread more useful to those seeking serious information and clues without having to read through hundreds of extraneous messages.

So, I hope it catches on !

So pop a beer and pull up a chair and relax !

Your pics from ground level don't show the damage. I thought you would take some pics from that sliding door that's at deck level to show damage, tear off and what your crew is doing to rebuild itnod
First off, look at what sam did last year with that portable airconditioner which is on the inside. he did that right after his mom passed away when we came home because our inwall unit broke. So then we had the damage and i thought it would be fixed right away last fall. I could not open the glass slider the way he put that wood and blocked it up so no one could get in or out. so we just left it. it will now be going thru the wall next to the door. And the windows are cloudy beyond seeing thru now from all the hammering and stuff i guess the seals just gave way. i could not take any pics and when they ripped it up it had to have the 1st layer of plywood down immediately in case it rained so my dining room ceiling underneath would not get wet. One ripped and the other put back down just leaving enough for the adjuster to see i think. happened really fast. They worked from 6am and just left a little while ago, sanding and the fiberglass will go down tomorrow they think and then the new slider and then the side roof. i have a pic of that roof where it also leaks. i cannot find the pics (i wrote to you) there are hundreds but they are all here.

That happens sometimes but if it has one price in writing they usually follow that no matter what. Upping the price is common with scammers. look into who they are and if they have complaints. My mom just had her roof replaced and a huge over sized porch with over hanging roof added, ramp railing and remodeled the garage into an apartment with its own entrance for $12,000. Plus they built them a 10' X 14' shed out back
I checked with so many and $20,000 is about right. maybe things are much cheaper by you? Sam got $3,000 off today. No reports as i checked. Maybe I did get ripped off but with Sandy damages still being worked on here, they are taking advantage. They do excellent work tho. I just hope I get something from insurance. Did they do nice work for your mom? Do you have pics?

Quote from cwhetme :
They should have anticipated if there was damage to the deck there would be damage to the rest as well. Depends on how they wrote the contract they should have warned her of possible complications and expenses
They said if the rafters were damaged, it would be more but they were ok. No one expected such shabby construction under there.

they filled one dumpster, another pile is on the side of the house because the dumpster just came back. Stuff just came flying off the deck and it was windy so i mostly stay inside. Sam watches them closely and said they are doing a proper job. New construction is much easier than a repair.
I feel so bad. the lumber company delivered 2" X 12" X 20' boards and had to leave them in the front yard today. Sam just carried them thru the gate, over the pile of rubble and is now starting the stairs. Those are so heavy. they delivered with a big hoist thing.

If you signed a contract then they cant change the price
He told me verbally that it may be more. Just spoke to Sam about your mom's and he said immediately what I said - Sandy and NJ - much more than where you are. That is why he originall flipped out because when he lived in Washington he had his own part-time general contractor business. He said my house here if it were in Washington would be only about 1/3rd the price of what they are here. He wanted me to move there when he still had his house instead of living here.

Things constantly change with updates and facebook and who knows? You have to try in other browsers. So many things that used to work so nice for me in firefox will not work here at all.

I still don't understand why you can't take pics thru that sliding door or just open a window and take some pics. If it were me I would document every thing these guys do with pictures

That is a while ago, right? Or is that what Google has right now. It still has the trees next to the old steps which we removed when he built the new deck.

Wait until it is done - it will be beautiful. White everything. Vinyl rails. stain the staircase that you walk on (steps only) to match the little lower deck.
