Amazon closed my account

1,923 199 December 4, 2013 at 05:19 AM
So my wife account on Amazon got closed due "continued to request refunds for a significant number of your orders." Basically we had a baby and she was buying and returning stuff, but still keeping a lot of stuff. But I guess they have there reasons, anyway my account which had the same amazon visa card (sharing rewards) also got closed due to being linked to this account. I had student prime and over all loved my account and had good standings. What can I do now ? From reading around I see that they are using the billing address and/or Credit card/Bank information to link accounts, not the delivery address. This really sucks !

Not really sure its on her account, but its not like crazy. I did tell her that she is doing a lot of buying/returning but with there advertised free returns on baby and clothing, its setting you up for fail. Anyway my parents have an account that didnt get closed, so I`m thinking of getting amazon visa in my name and starting over.
What would you define as not crazy?

Sounds like the closing was justified then. Hopefully the silly threads of "price mistake !!!" due to one small (and obvious) picture error or the like...will also decrease with more bans. The whole purpose of Amazon and the third-party sellers..is an area of safe trade...not sleazy head-hunters looking for free items via extortion.
Maybe just maybe I can agree with her account closing, even if they do advertize easy and free returns on clothing and such, but closing my account that did not have this issues ? And always paying for what ever I didnt want or needed to return is just crazy. I`m about to open a BBB case as well....

Not 1000 bought and 1000 returned. Maybe like 25% returned from lets say 100 items over 2-3 months bought.

So we are talking about 25 returns out of 100 items? Depending on the cost of the item, they were probably paying more in shipping per item (since you said baby stuff - am assuming little toys, clothes etc) than the cost. Maybe that along with the high count per month triggered it? I have done under 20 returns, but thats over 4-5 years and I was concerned Smilie

Well if they dont want the returns then they shouldn't advertise/provide free returns

25 items is crazy.. Quite a few stores would ban you for that.

There are a few B&M stores that have done this as well. Nothing surprising here. I would ban you as well. Depending on the item, businesses lose a significant amount of money on returns. Whether its shipping, repackaging, restoring, refurbishing item for resale or return to manufacturer.

Certain companies don't like to be treated like a rent a center. Stop buying and returning in excess.

I think this policy may depend more on the dollar value rather than the quantity. I say this because I returned a alienware laptop to Amazon back in October. I would have kept it but it was overheating while playing games. I called Dell and they suggested I have a tech come out to repair it. Since it was basically a brand new laptop, I decided to exchange it at Amazon since it didn't make any sense to repair a new laptop. Once I checked with Amazon, the model wasn't in stock so they said I could return it and get a refund to purchase at a later date. A couple weeks after receiving the laptop from me, I get a email from amazon like this:

Hello,
We've noticed that you've returned a significant number of your recent orders. In our experience, high rates of returns can indicate that customers are not happy with their Amazon shopping experience.
If there is anything that we can do to improve your experience on our site, please reply to this e-mail with your feedback. For technical assistance with your account, just click the Contact Us button on any Amazon.com Help page to reach our Customer Service team (www.amazon.com/help).
While we welcome returns when orders don't work out, we want to do whatever we can to ensure that you are happy with your Amazon shopping experience.
Thank you for choosing Amazon.com.
Best regards,
Account Specialist
Amazon.com

The problem is that I almost never return items to Amazon! In fact, I looked through my recent purchases and I only returned 2 items in the past year (besides the laptop). The other items were ipad cases and the value was less than 10 bucks. I gave them a call and replied to the email about it and nobody could give me a straight answer as to why I received the email. I spend at least $300 a month at Amazon and my return rate is less than 1%. That's why I believe this is based on the value of the item since the laptop was 1400 bucks. At this point, my account is still open but I feel like I will be treading lightly for a while.

Just make another one

Starting a new account is not going to help. They will close that one too. Any browsing or buying on your IP will make it they will close it. Any credit card used linked to your name etcetera will make it such that they will close the account. Amazon actually sells a book that explains how to set up a new account after you have been banned. It is not simple.

I'd ban you for return 25% too. The customer is not always right and some customers aren't worth keeping. You are one of them.

You deserve it. Just shop B&M now. Even though they advertise free shipping and returns, they don't assume someone would abuse it. I've never had a return with Amazon yet. I usually eat the loss or sell it locally to try to break even.

I bought lots of items from Amazon and only returned 1 because the item was defective. I had to pay for shipping to return the item and pay to shipped it back to me. the value of item was $109.99

is this happen to anyone?

to the op post. If amazon ban you. you more likely not able to open a new account under your name with the same address, IP address or same computer that you used before. unless you use different IP, mailing address and different device where you will be accessing your amazon account. don't link the same bank account/visa/credit card that amazon had file on. you more like won't be able to open a new account with them.

Good luck yozh!

Again, maybe, maybe my wife is wrong in returns, but it is hard to shop for a baby and cloth, but they closed my account on which I didnt have bad returns and such

Your new credit card is still linked to your account because of name, social security number etc. have someone buy that book for you. To open a new account you basically need a new identity.

Right, I`m going to go get new passport and SS# to start shopping on amazon again ? Come on. Its not that complicated I`m sure. The other accounts for my grandmother which had my old CC info is still open and has my home address. My parents account is still open which has both also.
