Need help with my next TV series on Netflix/Amazon Prime

41 17 February 14, 2014 at 07:32 PM in Chat (2)
In the last year I've watched all episodes of:
Lost
Heroes
Firefly
Breaking Bad
Dexter
Jericho

and enjoyed all of them immensely. Can't seem to find anything else yet on Netflix or Amazon that would be as good as those shows are. Anyone care to throw out some recommendations based on my top tier shows above? Tried 4400 and another one that I had to quit on lately. Thanks!

Several Loungers agree on:

Six Feet Under
Dexter
Breaking Bad

Unfortunately two of these options are in the OP. Confused

After watching 2 1/2 seasons, a vote for Teen Wolf.

No vampires, very little cheese, no saving the world issues, not a lot of romantic crap.
Good solid program.

Just started season 4 of Dexter. It's good, but I wouldn't put it above Breaking Bad. The seasonal arcs are all the same and the situations people get themselves into are the same over and over. I'll finish it, but I just don't see the major love people give it.

I'm so surprised no one has mentioned The Shield yet

There are EIGHT SEASONS of Dexter? I don't think I'm going to make it.

So you're saying you'd like to cut things short.

Just watched the first disc of The Wire Season 1 and it's pretty good, looking forward to finishing the season and getting the rest from Netflix.

I'm on Season 3 of Big Love and really like it. It's a drama about polygamy, one I've wanted to see for a long time, and finally got around to getting it from Netflix.

Well done.

I have to say, I'm tempted to just read the wiki entries for the next three seasons and watch the last one. The season 4 finale had me quite depressed.

I was into the first few seasons of Big Love and then sort of dropped it for no real reason. Is there a definitive ending to the series that you know of?

I think there is, maybe someone else will chime in. I don't want to do a web search and see spoilers! I remember seeing Gennifer Goodwin on Fallon or Leno, not too long after the show ended. They were talking about how great the ending was, so I think they did wrap it up somehow.

Thinking about starting Graceland. Anyone watch that??

Trial and Retribution - a UK series from way back - has been fairly decent. Like their version of Law & Order but a story will span an entire disc which makes for better storytelling.

finally caught up to The Walking Dead; very happy with the rebound to realism in season four after what i thought was a disappointing third season.

enough people recommended Firefly that i'm finally going to give it a shot (in the correct order, of course). watched the first episode yesterday, and while the sets, wardrobe, and some of the acting definitely have a SyFy feel, i'm going to keep going. even if i never warm up to it, there are only 14 episodes.

after that, i have a decide what to watch next. i've narrowed it down to:
  • The Americans
  • Homeland
  • House of Cards
  • Mad Men
  • Orange Is the New Black
  • Six Feet Under
  • Sons of Anarchy
  • The Sopranos
i've tried watching Mad Men and The Sopranos before, but quit after a season or so of each.

Firefly has a movie too, called Serenity. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt03797...fn_al_tt_1

The Americans is really good, so is House of Cards and Six Feet Under.

Got bored with Homeland and stopped watching it. The Sopranos is ok but just wasn't my thing, I too stopped watching after the first season, DH liked it though.

I see that Endeavour is on Netflix now, it's an excellent series, based off of the long running British show Inspector Morse. Endeavour is Morse at an early age, when he's just starting out as a detective. Really well done, excellent acting and it fits in nicely with the Inspector Morse series.

Sherlock is a great series. Cinematography and plot lines are fantastic and both Cumberbatch and Freeman are excellent.

I watched a few episodes. Not my favorite. I've seen worse. See how I gave conflicting reviews?
