you dont get the right to feel insulted, u have been warned...

so, peeps, if you dont believe in god, do you feel that ones that do are delusional?

a lot of people will sight karma or other things as 'he got what he had coming' but i argue that it's all a mathematical randomness that on a small scale might seem like karma

perfect example is: when you play poker and u push with the best hand, a LOT of times, you can predict/be so sure that the card will come that will beat you even if the chance of it coming is less than 1:6. when the card comes, some might argue it as karma, but i argue that its all random, just on a small scale randomness doesn't work

discuss....

It has been implied (if not stated directly, I'm too lazy to go back and look) that the christian mindset makes people want to do good things and be better people. People have also stated that on dark days they talk to god and feel better about themselves, so I don't see where my comment is so far fetched? (it might be over simplified...)
as a means to an end as I have said all along.

Your comment can be read either way, and I have to tell you that it was so far off the mark (at least in the way that I think) that I read it as sarcasm. Because you were serious, I sincerely apologize. I did not mean to misunderstand you. You know, I'm realizing more and more how entwined my life truly is with God. There's just a whole different understanding when you walk with/live with God. You're not using God, God is molding you. It's such a part of me, that I have to go back and read your comments again, because I will have to give them honest consideration. Again, I'm sorry that I didn't do that the first time. I really think differently than this.

People who went to religious school, who might have been religious before, usually come out agnostic (or change their views shortly in the future). I can name a large handful of people who fall into this category (including myself).

About as much as if you took a picture of God and showed me. I would be convinced that you have a hand, a husband, and a cat.

I was referring to the feelings and emotions towards a physical being who can return the feelings.

I think your first line is what this whole thread boils down to. One group of people saying "Prove it to me. And I want to see it."

and the other group saying "I can't prove it to you because you won't believe what I say, and God is invisible."

I cant see how you would believe me, no matter what I say. You say you will only believe a photograph. And I have a feeling, if I were even able to get you a photograph, you wouldn't believe. It is human nature to doubt. You have to chose, God will never allow you to be so convinced that the proof makes your choice for you.

BTW I don't mean this in a rude way at all.

Yea, I'd say she summed it up quite well. You're right.(for me)

I chose to forgive someone today. I had already forgiven them... but today it was done formally, if you will. I recieved the same in kind. This person has spoken out against me... and I against them. (on multiple occasions) I guess since we're only made in His image... we should be less understanding and compassionate to be more like Him.

Screw you! You person I forgave earlier today.... you know who you are...
You lose nothing of yourself by forgiving someone else their small indiscretions, Drio. Taking the high road is better exercise for ya anyway. Big Grin

You're still trying to make this a free for all and it can't possibly be. You want to live your life as you have with no care for God in the least and then when you die, magically appear in heaven looking for a beer and forgiveness. Why would you possibly think you rate so highly in anyone's book?

Using might not be the right word, my last sentence would still make sense if I used the word molding.

no worries, sorry you misunderstood it the first time (and sorry I was so off the mark in your case, but that's the way I saw it/still see it in your case, but again it's hard to form a solid opinion from having one serious conversation with someone in an online forum.)

Hmm, I've done both (religious and secular school), both for elementary and college. I will tell you up front that I spent years questioning and doubting, and also exploring other faiths/ideologies, etc. My husband was raised Catholic. He had no interest in religion at all, but in the last 2 years, he's developed a sincere interest in God. There's only 1 church he gives one hoot about attending, but he really WANTS to go there every week. He hauls me there! My husband is tattooed, has a pompadour, looks/is mean, and typically does not fit into church well (thus part of the reason for his disdain for religion in general), but his love of God has really become honest, and he really enjoys the church we've been attending. His whole life has become lighter, recently. I can see improvement in his health, happiness, joy, and more. I can't speak any more than that on his behalf...only what I see in him. It does make me happy for him, though.

I'll take that as being not sarcastic...

Quote from sassysour :
I am not speaking for SlicKitty, but here is how I see it.

God makes me a better person. You know how you make new years resolutions? I would make them, then later see how differently God had changed me, in areas I didn't even know I needed to be changed in!

I will cry out to God, and totally freak out, and in the middle of it, God in his mercy, brings calmness. He gives me permission to come to him and cry out for peace, he delights in me "using him" that way.

Sometimes God does give me answers to things I don't know the answers to. Sometimes he gives me answers before I knew I had a question.

Believing in God has not made me feel more whole. I feel more broken, more "messed up", more flawed. But I feel loved and accepted where I am, like I can rest in him, and be forgiven, and restored. But definitely, the longer I have been a Christian, the more I see how far I have to go.

Am I using God for personal gain... yes, maybe. Just like I am "using" my husband for personal gain. I use my husbands love, and I give him my love. I walk hand in hand with my husband and he makes everything in my life more enjoyable. The same with God. I literally can't walk hand in hand with an invisible being, but I know he is with me. I know I am a delight to him, a joy. I love being a joy to him, and I love knowing he loves me. I love "loving him", whether in worship with my friends, or in quiet prayer.
Thanks for the write up. Maybe my post wasn't as detailed/explanatory as I wished it to be, but your post agrees with some of the comments I made (at least in my head, or the way I meant to make them).

no, I wasn't being sarcastic. You really were close, but your statements sounded a little backwards. Sort of like the difference between "I eat to live" and "I live to eat"~ Killerbootsman did the same thing. Maybe just because you haven't actually had that experience.

I think the religious school did a couple things to me. It made me form a certain type of animosity towards religion. It also taught me a whole lot. I was forced to take a whole year of Old and New Testament classes. It was actually interesting. It was partially interesting because the professor would get pissed if you pointed out points where the bible seriously contradicts itself. This is why it gets to me when discussing religion and someone says "You don't understand". It's such a cop out. I do want to find out. I'm not atheist. I'm not closed off to learning about if God exists or not. I want to learn. However, the problem is going to be that someone's word is not good enough for me. The human word isn't good enough for anyone......except when it comes to religion.

Okay, let me try this, |V|ax (How do you do that?):
God does mold me into better person. (You think I'm bad now...you should have seen me before! laugh out loud ) Every day, I ask to have the patience, strength, grace (which I have occasionally lacked here, so I'll have to pray for that) to behave myself a little better than I did the day before. I notice that my entire day/week/month goes better when I pray, read my Bible, attend church, listen (during prayer).

God does keep me sane during the times when I don't know where else to turn. This is absolutely true. You're perfectly correct on this and it really needs very little change, except to say that I don't do it, God does.

You're using god to answer the questions that you have no answer for. - Heavens, no. I rarely/never get direct answers from God, though I do notice steering when I'm lost, if I pray about it. For instance; last semester, I didn't know how I was going to pay for college. My office does not offer tuition reimbursement to my particular group. I prayed. I felt God leaning on me to ask the Top Dog in our Dept. I argued a bit. "God, our company doesn't do that!" But, I have learned better than to argue, so I shut my mouth on that and did what I felt God telling me to do. She offered to pay for one class/semester (which was all I could take during the summer, anyway)! I was floored! To the best of my knowledge, that has never happened before, at our company. I do believe that God opens doors for me when I ask, so in some ways, your statement is right-ish, but it again has nothing to do with me. God just does make provision in so many instances. I wouldn't say that He answers questions for me, like a Magic 8 Ball, but guidance? Yes.

You're using god to believe in something, to make yourself feel whole. - Mmm...well...actually, sometimes I don't feel very good about myself on the whole, specifically because I know God. Sometimes, I feel there's more I could do. Sometimes, I feel I could have behaved better (it's happened to me right here, in this very thread). Sometimes, I think there's something more I could have done/said, or that my words didn't come out properly in some particular instance, but yes...in some instances, I do feel better for knowing God. Either way, it wouldn't matter if I felt better or worse for knowing God, because I just do know Him. It's like saying that I know my husband. I just know him. Whether I'm better or worse for it...I just know him. I happen to think I'm better off for knowing both God and my husband, but neither is a relationship I can deny.

Does that make sense? I hope it does...at least a little.

Dear Mavtech,
Here are a few photos of me:
1. Me sitting at my computer, typing this to you:

and here's a Glamor Shot that I had taken at the mall. I think it makes me look big, but hey...you wanted a photo, so I guess we can have a relationship now?

2.

Love,
God
