you dont get the right to feel insulted, u have been warned...

so, peeps, if you dont believe in god, do you feel that ones that do are delusional?

a lot of people will sight karma or other things as 'he got what he had coming' but i argue that it's all a mathematical randomness that on a small scale might seem like karma

perfect example is: when you play poker and u push with the best hand, a LOT of times, you can predict/be so sure that the card will come that will beat you even if the chance of it coming is less than 1:6. when the card comes, some might argue it as karma, but i argue that its all random, just on a small scale randomness doesn't work

discuss....

Hey... I'm all for 100% personal accountability.... and outiside factors being random chance. I'm just trying to figure out what you guys think god is in charge of and what he isn't.
I see. Well, in my mind if God were in charge (as it were) that would mean that we're all following His laws with no exceptions. That's obviously not the case.

Quote from Robor :
What does personal responsibility and inhumanity have to do with a child getting cancer?
There are many situations where children are born with ailments or deformed and wind up living a short life of miserable agony. Why were they not miscarriages? A close friend of mine miscarried a perfectly healthy fetus for the simple reason of her cervix not sealing properly. My friends were devastated. Why was their baby chosen to die?

I realize these are not questions you can answer and I'm not asking you to. I'm just pointing out that it seems like a big cop out to say we as humans can't understand the way god works when something bad happens but when something good happens it's definitely a miracle of god.
We're imperfect and therefore our bodies are imperfect. Why would you think it was God's fault that her cervix couldn't hold the fetus or are you simply wondering why the fetus died while others don't, or why it is that some people are born with dna that causes afflictions at birth while others aren't afflicted until later in life?

I don't personally blame God for the good or evil that occurs in my life. I'm happy when the good stuff happens, and deal with it when the bad stuff does. I don't test my God because it's not my place to do so (enter Job). I have faith that He's there, and faith that He will do what He said He will do.

Nah, we're so far down on the human chain of life that we mostly all follow man's laws and have no idea what it would be like to all follow Gods. nod

I'm not saying it's god's fault she miscarried. I'm agnostic so I think it was simply bad luck. It's no different than any other tragedy or miracle. Sometimes good things happen and sometimes... Well, as they say, **** happens. Wink

Well.... when his laws are "You wouldn't understand because you're just a sucky human and you're born guilty and sinful... and I can do what I want. Kiss my butt. I'm your daddy."... it's kinda hard to understand.

Well yea, it a way, it really does bust my balls. I'm born and already I'm in debt to some guy I don't know... I'm friggin told that I'm full of flaws and I'm a sinner even though I've only just pooped in my diaper... and I'm going to hell!

Yea, great song. Why does the idea being a monkey's uncle drive everyone crazy... but being the inbred offspring of Adam and Eve is all honkey dory. (I know the has already been discussed and the very fine lines pointed out)

And yes, making everyone for eternity pay, because Adam was a dipshit... that makes total sense. Thanks. That's really a wonderful children's song and excellent values to teach the kiddies! woot

I've been trying to stay out of this for many reasons, but here is why I don't believe in the Christian God (or any other supreme being for that matter).

He lets bad things happen to children. Period. I will accept no excuse for that.
Bad things happened to me when I was a child. I hope no one changed their view of God because of what happened to me.

You are right about this though, Kimber - I'll never change your view. I was thinking about it last night, and only God saves. I don't. My lot is to live as a witness and be certain that I know what's happening to me after I leave this earth. From there, I can pray, but I can't change minds. They're not mine to change.

For the third time, I think of God as the supreme scientist of all time. Take that into consideration when talking with me.

To put it in terms you might grasp more easily ;D , let's say God started with a can of playdough. He decides he wants to start making things with it. He starts with vegetation by making trees, grass, flowers, vegetables, etc. Then he moves on to making animals, birds, sea creatures. With every successive creature He creates, they get better, more refined, until He makes man. Being the creative master that He is, He decides to implant all of the species with microchips and insert various pieces of knowledge and abilities into each and installing man with more knowledge than any other creature as well as the ability to have deeper emotions and free will - to think on his own, if you will, thereby giving man dominance over the others. Along comes evil. Evil is a virus. The two perfect people become corrupt and the virus that they picked up is now successfully implanted into every dna file they share with their offspring. God decides that the world needs antiviral software implanted into it and so He sends Jesus who is perfect, but won't scare the crap out of man since he's in human form. The only way to mingle with God in His perfection so that we don't contaminate the rest of the heavenly creatures is to connect with Jesus and have the virus eliminated. Think of yourself as a virally contaminated computer, Drio. That should put it into some context that you can relate to better, I hope. If not, sorry. I tried. hug

But if god is so perfect, why can't god just snap his fingers and the virus goes poof? Or are you saying that evil has the same strength as god? And then for all we know (as someone stated before about the devil being in charge) could be true.

Free will. God allowed Adam and Eve a choice. They created who were are today. There was a thread in here quite awhile back where the topic was if you could go anywhere in time, where would you go? I'd go back and have a real heart to heart with Eve about consequences of actions.

Peachyum, that is a good explanation for that viewpoint, but the "along comes evil" presents a problem.

Ultimately, God created evil. He may not have done it directly, but the common interpretation is that He created Lucifer, and Lucifer (out of his own free will) decided to rebel against God and became Satan. Then he deceived Adam & Eve and the perfect Garden of Eden became the cold, cruel world.

But like I was saying, God created Lucifer, and God knows ahead of time what choices all are going to make.

So here we have this god that knows one of his angels will rebel and take many others with him, knows that that angel will deceive most of the earth, and ultimately send at least 90% of the world to hell or annihilation, and yet god doesn't do anything because of free will.

And when you look at it that way, in a way it makes Satan more powerful than God - Satan is out deceiving the world and God just shakes His head and says "free will". God could have stopped the evil or not created it in the first place, but instead (according to mainstream beliefs) he did and has done nothing to stop it.

It just doesn't make much sense to me Dontknow

laugh out loud laugh out loud laugh out loud Jesus is a Macintosh... I knew it!!!

Honestly... I did just figure out where all my reasoning goes wrong. It's all wrong to me because I reject the very basis of our origin. I'll admit.. that once you accept the origins and theories behind a creationist existance... then the rest falls into place with some semblance of reason. But whoa momma... if you just listen to this stuff under any other context... it ain't pretty.
