you dont get the right to feel insulted, u have been warned...

so, peeps, if you dont believe in god, do you feel that ones that do are delusional?

a lot of people will sight karma or other things as 'he got what he had coming' but i argue that it's all a mathematical randomness that on a small scale might seem like karma

perfect example is: when you play poker and u push with the best hand, a LOT of times, you can predict/be so sure that the card will come that will beat you even if the chance of it coming is less than 1:6. when the card comes, some might argue it as karma, but i argue that its all random, just on a small scale randomness doesn't work

discuss....

Thank you. But then I have another question (to which you may not have the same answer as BrgnHntr) she said that only the ones who are christian are going to heaven (assuming the chrisitians chose the same god). So then that statement is invalid? And if it is valid, can you please clarify it for me as to why?

Jewish people are still waiting for the Savior to come. Christians believe he has come, and Moslems believe the rules their prophet set before them, I am not sure what Jesus means to them.

There are Christian Jews, and they call themselves "complete Jews" which is very offensive to traditional Jewish people.

When Jesus came the Jewish people did not know what to make of him. They had, and have been waiting for their savior. They were under intense persecution from the Roman government, and they expected Jesus to be the type of king that would save them from that. When he was crucified even his followers fell away. No one knew what to do with that. His own disciples fell away. They denied him.

When he arose from the dead many people saw him. His own disciples went from denying Jesus, to dying torturous deaths where the torture would have ended if they would recant their statement that He rose again.

Jesus died for the permanent forgiveness of sins. I am not sure what the Jewish religion does now, but for centuries they were required to sacrifice animals for a temporary covering of their sin. This is why Jesus is called the Lamb of God.

For those who accept Jesus, his blood permanently covers their sin. This is why Christians say the only way to heaven is through Jesus.

I've been trying to stay out of this for many reasons, but here is why I don't believe in the Christian God (or any other supreme being for that matter).

He lets bad things happen to children. Period. I will accept no excuse for that.
What if the kid(s) told you the only way they got through it was with Jesus?

Is that a hypothetical? Because IIRC some people do have extra rods (not sure about cones) that help them see in darker environments.
Actually yes, there are a small percentage of people (mostly women) who have extra light receptors active that allow for collecting more color information than the average person...

So maybe not the best analogy but then maybe even better? Either way... I think the spirit of the comment is clear...

I think they have a week of "forgiveness" now between yum kipor and rosh hashanah where if you ask god for forgiveness (or anyone who you have offended) that you will be forgiven (which doesn't make sense to me, but that's whole different story).

now, how is that fair? i'd kinda enjoyed slicing his body with a katana into steaks and then feeding it 1 by 1 to hyenas...

God "told"me that I would have a son named Joshua. So when I was pregnant I wondered, is this Joshua? The name "Joshua" means, he saves. My son was born on Yom Kippur which means the day of atonement. Joshua was also another name for Jesus. I thought it was so cool that he was born on that day. Not that it was a huge hidden spooky meaning, but just a perfectly neat way for the reminder.

If it was someone in this thread then it most likely relates to the Christian faith.

And it is unknown if hitler was jewish or not. There is no proof in either direction AFAIK, only speculation (supposedly his grandmother was a servant to a jewish family, and she seduced a man and he got her pregnant, and he was jewish. But there was a lot of research done to find the family, and no one by that last name lived there, ever.) Dontknow

About which part, that there was a discussion about hitler and going to heaven if he asked forgiveness? I don't remember who but a few of the religious people on this thread were discussing it.

Or the fact that he said he was jewish?

Or the fact that he probably wasn't? (or didn't know that it was based on a lie)

How can women forgive their rapists? Dontknow I am not sure how you forgive if someone doesn't ask for forgiveness, but I do know unforgiveness/bitterness is like drinking poison hoping the other person will die.

Like I said, it's all speculation, but here is one link
http://www.holocaust-history.org/...wish.shtml

Quote :
Hitler's grandmother was not Jewish.

There are some rumors hinting that Hitler's grandfather was Jewish. Few, if any, of the reputable historians on the Holocaust believe that this is so. It is more likely that Hitler tried to keep the murky history of his family quite secret because there was a high incidence of insanity and feeble-mindedness in his ancestors.

Rumors die hard, though.

One of Hitler's henchmen, Hans Frank, declared during the Nuremberg Trials in 1945-46, that Hitler's grandmother had worked in the town of Graz as a servant in the home of a Jewish family named Frankenberger. He further claimed that she was seduced by the head of the household and that Hitler's grandfather was the result of that liaison.

A subsequent analysis of Frank's statement by Simon Wiesenthal disclosed that there was no evidence of any Jewish family named Frankenberger ever living in Graz. What is more, Jews had been driven out of Graz in the 15th century and had not been allowed to return until 1856, nearly twenty years after Hitler's grandfather had been born.

Here is a link from wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adolf_Hitler

Quote :
There were rumours that Hitler was one-quarter Jewish and that his grandmother, Maria Schicklgruber, became pregnant while working as a servant in a Jewish household. The implications of these rumours were politically explosive for the proponent of a racist ideology. Opponents tried to prove that Hitler had Jewish or Czech ancestors. Although these rumours were never confirmed, for Hitler they were reason enough to conceal his origins.

That is the truth!

Even from a non-religious standpoint, I totally agree with that.

I'm not perfect when it comes to forgiveness, but I try to get better at it. I learned the hard way that the only person suffering is the one holding the grudge.

Any of these occurances individually, true. But as you combine the odds of one, with the odds of the next, with the odds of the next, etc. all occuring in succession to one person. Statistically speaking...the odds of it happening just that way are actually miniscule.
getting back into this thread. sorry if discussion has changed far from this still have a few more pages to go.

this post was what i was getting at earlier asking whether if things didn't work out, whether it would have been seen as her time.

while it has a small chance of happening, it does not mean it can not or will not happen. in fact, the law of large numbers says (summarized) that things like this WILL happen as long as you repeat the experiment long enough. something with a .00001% chance (1 in a billion) to us seems pretty unlikely in a medical situation and can be seen as impossible. something that can only happen with gods interverntion. sometimes that's just rounded down to 0. we have 6 billion + current people in the world, with many more billions through out the thousands of years. well now its not so unlikely is it?
