you dont get the right to feel insulted, u have been warned...

so, peeps, if you dont believe in god, do you feel that ones that do are delusional?

a lot of people will sight karma or other things as 'he got what he had coming' but i argue that it's all a mathematical randomness that on a small scale might seem like karma

perfect example is: when you play poker and u push with the best hand, a LOT of times, you can predict/be so sure that the card will come that will beat you even if the chance of it coming is less than 1:6. when the card comes, some might argue it as karma, but i argue that its all random, just on a small scale randomness doesn't work

discuss....

Also PG, by your theory someone had to create god, and then Deve could be right -- does god have a father (for example).

Also were you able to catch on the posts you missed? Like -- chrisitanity is not the first religion, many predate it. So Since jesus is not god, but his son, and no one before jesus was alive believed in the correct god, does that mean they all went to hell? Adam and Eve, Abraham, Noah, all those historical people.

laugh out loud but if we start getting into a debate (as in depth as they did) about the beginning of the universe, this thread will easily go over 1000 posts by the weekend.

Here is a quote from Einstein:

Albert Einstein
There are two ways to live your life - one is as though nothing is a miracle, the other is as though everything is a miracle.

I read this as though you were saying Albert Einstein said all of this~ but when I looked it up, I saw that he only said the first sentence.

here is another one~
Albert Einstein
"The further the spiritual evolution of mankind advances, the more certain it seems to me that the path to genuine religiosity does not lie through the fear of life, and the fear of death, and blind faith, but through striving after rational knowledge."

Albert Einstein
"I want to know God's thoughts; the rest are details."

Albert Einstein
"Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one."

Albert Einstein
"I am convinced that He (God) does not play dice."

Albert Einstein
"God is subtle but he is not malicious."

Albert Einstein
"God does not care about our mathematical difficulties. He integrates empirically."

Albert Einstein
"My religion consists of a humble admiration of the illimitable superior spirit who reveals himself in the slight details we are able to perceive with our frail and feeble mind."

Albert Einstein
"Everything is determined by forces over which we have no control. It is determined for the insect as well as for the star. Human beings, vegetables, or cosmic dust - we all dance to a mysterious tune, intoned in the distance by an invisible piper."

Quote from PassionateGray :
The answer to God is more logical and philosophical, I believe.

God always has been.

Everything with a beginning has a creator, right? But my question is, can something form out of nothing? I mean, I think that in order for something to be made, it has to be made from something... but who made that first something? Someone had to set it in motion, right?

Where did the energy come from that put the particles in motion that created the reactions to form more intelligent life? Is energy eternal? No... have we found anything that is eternal here in this physical world, no. But logically it makes no sense that something that is not eternal has created something, because it has a beginning. It came from something.

To me, it only makes logical sense that we had to come from somewhere, something, or someone that has no beginning. It was just always there. That, in my opinion, is God... and the random chances that that God was just an eternal element that has existed for always is pretty slim, if you ask me. To create such detail out of such simplicity is rare, if not impossible... and the evidences of the age of the earth have been disputed and are as well, a bit faulty (check out my husband's post on carbon dating awhile back in the thread).

This one is hard for me to talk about without sounding confusing so I'm sorry if I'm not making any sense.
Why can't the universe just always have existed it was just here? I believe the thought in science is that matter cannot be created nor destroyed...indicating there is a finite amount of stuff within the universe.

So what is more logical... creating matter or just always existing.

also it has been demonstrated through various statistical measures that what may seem impossible is only the illusion of a very minute chance.

In 1999 the hubble space telescope has found there may be 125 billion galaxies in the universe.

125,000,000,000...now these are just galaxies and doesn't include all the stars within them. Scientists believe there are 10^21 amount of stars in the universe. which looks like
1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000.

We don't normally deal numbers this large... its almost inconceivable to the human mind.

Christianity is definitely not the first religion, before that came the Jewish religion, and the bible talks of a religion before that, because the Jewish religion came with Issac I think.

But there is still only one God. Most religions are built off of this one God.

If I were to "make up" a god, he would look different than the God we have. I would only have human nature to base it off of, so my made up god would look very similar to a human. Honestly, I don't believe I would even think to make him not a sinner, after all, he is God, as a supreme being he could do whatever he wanted to do.

Or I would make him look like Santa Claus, because that would really be the most convenient for me.

I would not make him a holy God, perfect in every way. It is something I can't relate too, and when asked questions about him, I have a hard time explaining. I can only tell you my personal experiences with him.

As far as the people who died before Jesus was ressurected, the bible says Jesus went to them, they were kept waiting for the availability of Jesus' forgiveness, if they desired it.

Actually there are several different interpetations as to when the jewish religion started. One of them includes adam and eve, one of them includes abraham and one of them is isaac. Another thing which just creates more questions....

Interesting thanks. (I just snipped this part out, because it was the most interesting to me, but the whole post was interesting, thanks).

To be honest, whether it seems like a cop out or not (which I assure you that it isn't laugh out loud) I think that Sassy summed it up pretty well while I was at lunch.

I am just like you guys... I have a finite mind. I don't claim to know all the answers for everything... I can only work it out to the best of my ability. However, the idea of God being our creator is more convincing to me than the idea of the universe coming from nothing in particular. There are ways I can defend it and there are ways where I am probably lacking... but that is because I'm finite and flawed as well.

I just I'm just living on an idea just like you guys are, and if it makes me crazy to say that I know, then I'll just be called crazy. Smilie Everyone has their own opinion and everyone has their own ideas... and ultimately everyone has to make their own decision. But I don't believe that this life is just the natural... I do believe that the supernatural does exist and that God is there.

All we can go off of logically are evidences, and there are evidences for both. That is why one should never stop trying to work it out... because once a person says that they have found the answer and doesn't continue working on it, that's when there is a problem, in my opinion.

And it may sound circular, but logically it just makes sense to me that there is an intelligent designer to the universe. And if there is an intelligent designer (not just eternal atoms or whatever) then that designer MUST be God. As for "religion:" Why Christianity, you say? Because of it's background and the implications of the religion... there are many, many theological, logical, philosophical and historical things I could discuss on why I believe Christianity is the way, but much like the scientific formation of the universe discussed in the other thread, that's a whole new 1000 posts. Interesting thanks. (I just snipped this part out, because it was the most interesting to me, but the whole post was interesting, thanks).

I didn't know there were several interpretations~ but here is some info. This is how I read it in the bible~

A central tenet of Judaism is that God, the Creator of the World, made a special agreement called a covenant (berit in Hebrew) with Abraham, from whom the Jewish people descended.

I am looking for the other scripture, it's hard to find~ Smilie

In some religions energy is "God" and this is one of those times when science and religion may answer the same question the same way with different terms...

However Christianity blocked this option out when they claim humans are made in Gods form...

And as for lasting forever, energy cannot be destroyed or created... and the line between energy and matter is getting fuzzier and fuzzier as quantum physics look deeper into such questions... so the matter of the universe might have come from energy... which indeed may have existed forever...

Or nota

Just because in our limited understanding of the universe everything seems to have come from somewhere and end somewhere, doesn't mean that everything in the universe must function under those rules... So while I can't think of anything that didn't come from somewhere or end somewhere, it doesn't mean that he universe didn't indeed simply always exist....

Um... I have a Q. Why wasn't everone flipping out about creationism not being taught in schools until recently? The schools were having morning prayer... and saluting the flag... but never was there creationism in the classroom. What happened??

It's like someone woke up and realized they had to claim the past if they were to keep their future.

not to argue semantics, but the term is in Gods "image". I think an image of something, and the form of something is two different things.

I am not sure what type of science was taught in the classrooms 30 years + ago. How far back are you going? What exactly do you mean?

Could be because fewer people take the time to take their children to church these days and too, they rely on school to do what mom and dad should be doing for their children. This is just another one of those things. In another 50 years or so, we may have teachers preaching in front of the class for 45 minutes. Dontknow
