Went to use my wrecker/plow truck a few days ago to move my old plow truck out of the way for some demolition work I am having done. I started it up and didn't have any power steering so I figured it was low on fluid since there is a slow leak in one of the lines. I opened it up to add fluid but it was still full, so I started the truck back up and saw that the bearing in the belt tensioner pulley had seized up and was shredding the belt and the power steering pulley was slipping which was why I had no power steering. No big deal, I did the job without power steering and parked the truck back in the driveway to fix later.

Simple job. Figured less than $20 for the pulley and another $25 for a new belt and maybe 10-15 ,minutes to round up the tools and change the parts. Then when I started I found that the tensioner was also shot. Another $60 or so. Since there are two serpentine belts I also have to loosen up the alternator to remove that one first. Broke the first bolt off in the alternator. Since I didn't have access to my torches I figured the other one would also break so I tried moving the alternator enough to get the belt off without loosening the second one. Broke the farking alternator housing. Rebuilt alternator--$80+$30 core charge which I can't get back because I broke the farking housing. Also another $25 or so for a new alternator belt because that one is also pretty much shot, along with another couple bucks for new bolts.

Spend about an hour drilling out the bolt that broke off in the mounting bracket because the first drill bit broke off in the bolt halfway through and those bastards are a bitch to drill. Got it all back together, spliced a new updated connector on the wiring harness and started it up. The farking thing isn't charging. Ranting It charged fine with the old alternator so either the new one is bad or I screwed something else up.

I threw all the tools in the garage and gave up for the night.

Yeah, I think that was the only reasonable option at that point. Hate those kind of easy repairs.

I thought that was my job to throw the tools left in my kitchen when there is a shed full of tool boxes, and more tool boxes in the garage Scratchhead
