Okay, after a few days I have to say that De Los Altos Anejo is actually better, although marginally, than Corralejo Anejo.

I've switched back and forth, and I like the De Los Altos better. It is slightly sweeter and just a touch less sharp. Otherwise it is a very close call.

Unfortunately for me, I have to travel about 100 miles to get the De Los Altos, and the corner liquor store caries Corralejo. I may have to ask them to carry the De Los Altos as well.

Find one other good reason to drive the distance, and it will be worth the drive. Or buy a few bottles (case?) on each trip, several months apart?

I have a very good reason to drive the distance, but not very often. Every few months or so. Plus, even though alcohol is generally cheaper there than it is here, a case of good Tequila is still on the pricy side. Either way, I have been enjoying the crap out of this De Los Altos Anejo, but I just finished the bottle tonight.

Truly a sad moment. At my house, it's the 18-year old Single Malt Scotch that runs dry once a year or so. Then it's the expense to buy another fine bottle, not the distance.

Fortunately for me, I guess, I haven't developed the affinity for Scotch that I have for tequila.

That's not to say I haven't enjoyed it when I've had the opportunity, but I still prefer the Tequila, especially a really good Anejo.

I gifted a bottle of fine Anejo tequila to a friend upon her achievement of Ph.D. several years ago. I can't remember the name or any details, but it was top of the list at the time. I think it reset her expectations for good tequila.

So far one thing I have learned about a good Anejo is that price != quality, necessarily. Some of the higher priced Anejos I've tried have been so smooth that they may have well been water.

I have had a couple Reposados and Anejos at a much lower price that are far more palatable and present themselves as actual tequilas. My personal opinion is that if you are going to drink tequila, then by gawd, drink a damn tequila and not some concoction that has the tequila distilled out of it!

I'm looking squarely at you, Petron, you over-priced tasteless swill.

I love a good Tequila but the Bushmills 21 year old single malt is simply amazing and beats any tequila, so we spend our money on it and do cheaper tequilas. But it's over $100 a bottle so we save the 21 yo whiskey for special occasions. For every day it's Jameson 16 yo or a Bushmills 12 year old.

Never been a scotch drinker, just never liked the flavor of it. Just curious though, which scotch do you drink? We occasionally buy a gift for friends and they love scotch.

Glenlivet, usually. Occasionally Glenfiddich. But I really agree with you about Old Bushmills. On a business trip to Europe many years ago, I was fortunate enough to purchase a bottle of 8-year old Single Malt Old Bushmills, which I gifted to the restaurant owner for whom I cooked nights after work. It was incredibly smooth and almost like sipping water, but there was no doubt it was Bushmills.

I corrected my previous post, right now we have the 12 year old because we brought some back on our last trip. Before that we drank the 8yo. Booze is really expensive in WA state, much more so than Texas, so we had a bit of sticker shock when we moved here.
