Formula One racing's governing body, the FIA, has revealed details of a new Super Licence points system, making it harder for drivers to become eligible for F1 competition.
From 2016, drivers must have accumulated 40 points over a three-year period, with points allocation based on which other motorsport series they have participated in and the level of results they achieved.
Drivers will have also have to be at least 18-years old, have spent at least two years in junior single-seater categories, hold a valid road driver's licence and pass a test on the Formula One sporting regulations. The existing requirement of completing 300 kilometres in a recent F1 car also remains.
*snip*
If such a system had been in place ahead of 2015, new Toro Rosso signing Max Verstappen would be ineligible to race in F1 this year, having accrued just 20 points by finishing third in the 2014 FIA F3 European championship - the 17-year-old's only season of car racing to date.

We'll see what happens with the weather, right now it's 50% rain chance Friday and Saturday, 30% on Sunday, mostly early. with the main grandstand seats I can hide in the area underneath the upper grandstand if I need to.
If I can find a good deal for Saturday I'll consider going for that, too, but so far the best deal I can find on stubhub is $45 for row 15 in turn 15, which is just sort of okay on price, IMO.
And Hamilton is good in the rain.
In the absence of any track activity, mechanics and drivers put on their own entertainment.
Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo and Daniil Kvyat performed country dancing moves, Rosberg played around with a soccer ball and a Force India mechanic showed off some breakdancing.
Toro Rosso's Dutch teenager Max Verstappen produced a fishing rod while father Jos, a former F1 racer, donned overalls and helmet and squeezed into the car while team mate Carlos Sainz's father did the same.
Sauber mechanics 'paddled' down the pitlane in a crate on wheels, with a propeller on the end, pulled by others.

I'm not sure I want to even bother dealing with the whole mess tomorrow even with the improved forecast. I'm sure the grounds are a mess, and the shuttles will be packed because many parking lots are closed.
lots of fans are pissed off, but while I get that they are upset, I think COTA has handled things reasonably well. Those who stuck it out at the track today got a free pitwalk and driver autograph session at 5pm despite not seeing any racing, and they are honoring Saturday only tickets tomorrow, too. Some people with weekend passes are upset about that, but I don't see the point in that. If you go the US Open Tennis tournament in NYC, the individual days get rain checks for the same session the next year, but series ticket holders don't, because they get to see everything with their tickets anyway, they're not losing out on any rounds they would have seen otherwise. The same basically applies here, IMO
I think I'll watch from the comfort of my couch tomorrow, but I probably will go to the track in a few weeks for the vintage racing nationals which have been good fun in the past
that was a pretty good race to watch, although I still think I made the right call by watching on TV this year
Just finished watching as DH had to work most of the day.
That was excellent!
Rosberg is an ass and a really bad sport.

I wonder where Mercedes is out partying at tonight?
Ricciardo was pretty funny in the post race interview, the team had been telling him to keep the weight down but he loves barbecue, so he pledged to eat until he was sad with whatever Austin bbq he could find

"I just got wheelspin. It's never happened to me, ever. Not even in testing or racing, never, ever something like that. I can't explain it. It's unbelievable. I don't know," he told reporters.
"We just need to look into it afterwards but obviously that was really, really tough at the time, to lose the lead like that and to lose the win, because I was feeling really good at that point and it just went wrong."
I heard the thing about Ricciardo, that was pretty funny. I wonder which BBQ joint he made a beeline for after the race?

The Scot - the first woman to take part in a grand prix weekend for more than 20 years - believes her aim of racing in Formula 1 "isn't going to happen".
"It was a decision I made at the end of the summer. There was very little opportunity to carry on in Formula 1," the 32-year-old told BBC Breakfast.
"My goal was to get on to the starting grid and that didn't look achievable. So I had to call it a day."
She added: "I always said that as soon as I couldn't get any further I would stop and that time has come."

Wolff will make one more appearance as a racing driver - in the Race of Champions in London's Olympic Stadium on 20-21 November, racing for Scotland alongside former F1 driver and BBC F1 co-commentator David Coulthard.

But her decision to retire was partly influenced by an incident in March, when her team ruled out the possibility of using her as racing cover for Valtteri Bottas in Malaysia. [bbc.com]

"I don't think it was the pivotal moment, but it was one of the moments where I could just see it getting harder and harder," she said.
