Formula 1 the 2015 edition ****Mercedes is suing their Senior Engineer**** (post 172)

Huh Scratchhead

Formula One racing's governing body, the FIA, has revealed details of a new Super Licence points system, making it harder for drivers to become eligible for F1 competition.

From 2016, drivers must have accumulated 40 points over a three-year period, with points allocation based on which other motorsport series they have participated in and the level of results they achieved.

Drivers will have also have to be at least 18-years old, have spent at least two years in junior single-seater categories, hold a valid road driver's licence and pass a test on the Formula One sporting regulations. The existing requirement of completing 300 kilometres in a recent F1 car also remains.

*snip*

If such a system had been in place ahead of 2015, new Toro Rosso signing Max Verstappen would be ineligible to race in F1 this year, having accrued just 20 points by finishing third in the 2014 FIA F3 European championship - the 17-year-old's only season of car racing to date.

Honda wins Formula 1 engine battle with FIA

Formula 1's governing body the FIA has backtracked on an earlier ruling [bbc.co.uk] that allowed Mercedes, Renault and Ferrari to upgrade their engines but not Honda.

The move comes after Honda expressed its unhappiness [bbc.co.uk] about what it considered to be an unfair situation.

Honda will now be allowed to develop its brand new engine within limits explicitly laid out by the FIA.

laugh out loud I thought it was cute, the way the kid reacted to LH, you could tell he was a bit awestruck. Kind of neat too that the kid captured the Kart title a year younger than LH did.

Interesting article, didn't realize there were so many father/son F1 drivers.

Like father, like son - the second-generation F1 racers 16

Formula 1's Australian season-opener is one of five grands prix that will start an hour earlier in 2015 following recommendations made after Jules Bianchi's crash in Japan last October.

A subsequent report [bbc.co.uk] advised races should not start within four hours of dusk or sunset to avoid similar light.

The races in Malaysia, China, Japan and Russia have also been brought forward.

The 2015 race in Suzuka will now start at 14:00 local time (05:00 GMT).

The accident panel - set up by governing body the FIA - said there would be no changes to the times of the night races.

Facepalm when you start messing around with safety, people die, because racing cars is still dangerous...

What about Abu Dhabi, when it is day into night on purpose?

How about they just don't put huge pieces of construction equipment right next to the track without making sure the cars have slowed down first? Facepalm

because it would be impossible to have an automatic speed limiter for yellow flag areas.... oh wait they already do that for pit lane.

BTW, for anyone who is truly a fan of Formula 1 and wants to be able to see the insides and outside and stories from eah race in a year, i cannot recommend the Autocourse [amazon.com] annuals enough.
They contain more information about each team, driver, race and the yearly "happening" than any other annual i've ever seen.
I've been purchasing them since 1990 and have never been disappointed.
