I haven't ever seen much love around here for Nascar but I figured I would see if there is enough discussion to warrant a thread.
If you don't like Nascar, if you don't get Nascar, if all it looks like to you is driving around in a circle then just go away.
If you aren't aware of the huge changes that Nascar has made in recent years it may be worth another look. Quite a few years back they started a "playoff" system known as The Chase. Last year they made a huge change in that by using an elimination system in the playoff to reduce the remaining racers eligible for the championship after each round. I'm not going to spend a lot of time on the details now, but I'm interested in other opinions on both having a playoff and the way Nascar is doing it.
I welcome negative comments, but just keep it respectful and including reasons for them. If you just want to insult Nascar and oval-racing then go somewhere else.

It's sounding more and more likely he did at least some of the things he was accused of so I don't really feel sorry for him, but with the timing of the suspension I have to feel bad for the rest of that team who just had the rug pulled out from underneath them this close to the start of the season.
I wonder who they will replace him with for a driver? Stewart-Haas has said they had a backup plan in case this happened so they must have someone all set to go.
The usual favorites are the safe picks as usual, but I think more drivers get their first wins at Daytona than just about anywhere else.
If I had to pick a winner I would give it to one of the Hendrick drivers. I'm not a Hendrick fan but I bet as a group they are still in disbelief that they didn't have even one driver in the final four racing for the championship at Homestead. They want to make a statement early this year and getting a win at Daytona would be the place to do it.
If I had to pick one of them that I would want to win tomorrow it would be Junior. If not Junior then it would be cool to see Gordon win his last Daytona 500. But if I am going to pick who I think is going to win I am going to give it to Jimmie Johnson. He is going to be hungrier than the rest of the Hendrick drivers after last season.
If there is another team that wants it more it would be Roush. The need some good finishes to show they are still a team to be reckoned with. But I don't think they are ready. They are still picking up the pieces after whatever happened that started their fall from being one of the top teams. Jack Roush will pull that team back together. But it won't be at Daytona tomorrow.
If I was going to pick a winner purely on the storyline and from an emotional standpoint I would say give it to Tony Stewart. After his problems the last two years and now with the huge distraction of Kurt Bush getting suspended a win by him would be a big shot in the arm for that team.
But even better yet I would love to see Ty Dillon pull off the extreme upset and win the 500.
Earlier in the race Regan Smith got hit from the side and flipped over.
I haven't heard anything about a replacement driver for Kyle yet.

Correction: Matt Crafton will sub for Kyle tomorrow.

Last year Tony Stewart got the exemption but it never mattered because he never got a win. He did finish in the top 30 though. I think he missed three races but I don't remember for sure.
Congrats to Joey Logano on the win.
Danica had a solid day, stayed out of trouble, and ended up with a 21st place finish. Not impressive but considering her primary car and backup car both got wrecked during the week it was a decent performance.
Great weekend except for that weasel Logano winning. I can't stand him personally.
Kyle Busch getting hurt sucked. I'm not a fan, but you never want to see a driver get hurt, especially in a non-Cup race. I wonder if some of those guys will reevaluate running Nationwide/Xfinity/Whatever series now.
The 500 was kinda dull until the last 30 laps. When they were 3-wide for the lead for at least 10 laps, nobody in the stands was sitting down. It was pretty awesome.
