I haven't ever seen much love around here for Nascar but I figured I would see if there is enough discussion to warrant a thread.
If you don't like Nascar, if you don't get Nascar, if all it looks like to you is driving around in a circle then just go away.
If you aren't aware of the huge changes that Nascar has made in recent years it may be worth another look. Quite a few years back they started a "playoff" system known as The Chase. Last year they made a huge change in that by using an elimination system in the playoff to reduce the remaining racers eligible for the championship after each round. I'm not going to spend a lot of time on the details now, but I'm interested in other opinions on both having a playoff and the way Nascar is doing it.
I welcome negative comments, but just keep it respectful and including reasons for them. If you just want to insult Nascar and oval-racing then go somewhere else.

It sounds like the hauler left early to beat the impending weather, and the primary car wasn't ready. So they took a smaller trailer down the next day, and that's what got stolen. My guess is somebody knew what they were carrying and targeted them.
On the Sirius Nascar channel they were saying that there may have been a lot of their equipment in that trailer as well although I would think a lot of it would have been in the main hauler. But I guess one of the biggest hurdles even if they found a car was that Kvapil's racing seat was in the car and if he doesn't have an extra one he would be screwed. Those seats are certified and fitted for the driver so it wouldn't be as easy as just finding any other seat.

But on the other hand it really can't hurt. The only chance I think it has to help is if it does open up more racing lines. Supposedly the speeds on the straightaways will be a little lower which should let them run a little faster through the turns. I think there is a slight chance that could make things a little more interesting, especially in the first couple of races where this is pretty new to the drivers.
It could also backfire for the same reason I suppose. Faster speeds in the turns could limit where the cars can run even more. This week might be fun just because there are so many of the top driver starting at the back of the pack. I've always said they should use an inverted starting lineup where the fastest cars start at the back like they do at many of the smaller local tracks across the country.
Can't tell much from one race but this one wasn't all that fun to watch. Other than the restarts there just wasn't a lot to watch. Once they got rolling the pack got spread out and it was like watching most open-wheel racing--a bunch of cars running in a line around the track with an occasional pass here and there.
Some more fuel for the safer-barrier push after Gordon pasted the concrete wall not more than a few feet from the end of the safer barrier. Speaking of Gordon, he is not off to much of a start in his final year with a 41st place finish today and 33rd place at Daytona. I've never been a big fan but I hope he finishes out the year a lot better than that.
Danica stayed out of trouble and finished with another solid but unremarkable finish at 16th, one lap down. Still ahead of her boss Tony Stewart though who finished 6 laps down at 30th and fellow team replacement driver Regan Smith who followed her across the finish line in 17th. The star of the team is still Kevin Harvick who starts off the year with two consecutive 2nd place finishes.

Harvick and Logano have continued where they left off last season. Hamlin and Newman were mid-pack guys last year, and that's continued a bit this year. Hamlin looked good at the beginning of the race, but faded until his crash.
How about Brett Moffit? 9th place finish subbing for Brian Vickers. Too bad he loses his ride next week when Vickers is scheduled to return. MWR needs to get him more starts.

It looked like Harvick was the only one who had anything at all for the 48 car but once Jimmie got out front there wasn't anyone going to catch him. They definitely earned that win.
Of course Hamlin taking out a few good cars didn't hurt him either.
