I haven't ever seen much love around here for Nascar but I figured I would see if there is enough discussion to warrant a thread.
If you don't like Nascar, if you don't get Nascar, if all it looks like to you is driving around in a circle then just go away.
If you aren't aware of the huge changes that Nascar has made in recent years it may be worth another look. Quite a few years back they started a "playoff" system known as The Chase. Last year they made a huge change in that by using an elimination system in the playoff to reduce the remaining racers eligible for the championship after each round. I'm not going to spend a lot of time on the details now, but I'm interested in other opinions on both having a playoff and the way Nascar is doing it.
I welcome negative comments, but just keep it respectful and including reasons for them. If you just want to insult Nascar and oval-racing then go somewhere else.

They will get the equipment figured out. I hope they do it soon. And I would like to see it happen around the time Buescher, Ryan Reed, and Darrell Wallace Jr become the Roush Sprint Cup drivers. I want to see Roush back in the game again. They are going to have to step it up if they want to keep those young future stars around very long. If not then those guys will be driving for someone else.
I know elite teams go through this from time to time, but Roush to me has really fallen since Mark Martin and Matt Kenseth left. Edwards did his best to keep the team together, but when you're losing top caliber drivers for guys like Trevor Bayne, who I think is the most overrated guy out there, you're not going to win championships.
I had other stuff I needed to be doing today but this short-track racing is what it's all about for me and I couldn't stay away.
Now I don't know what to do for the race on Sunday. I need to change a wheel bearing on my truck but I don't get Fox Sports 1 over at my shop. I had planned on watching the race there while I worked on it but I thought is was on the regular Fox channel. I could listen on the radio but I don't want to miss a short track race. I guess I will just have to try to get the work done earlier.
I don't ever remember a season where there have been this many drivers missing races and this many replacement drivers.
I thought he actually hit the wall but I don't think he did.
Nice win for Denny and for Toyota. Great racing today with some great lead changes. Keselowski got Denny loose in the last corner which was what he had to do but nice job by Denny to hold on to it.
Nice finish for David Ragan at 5th as replacement in Kyle Busch's car. Regan Smith did a good job replacing Kyle Larson at the last minute and ended up 16th. Solid performance for Danica with a 7th place finish.
Jeff Gordon had a solid shot at winning but screwed himself with a speeding penalty on pit road near the end. Chase Elliott, who will be replacing Gordon in the 24 next year, had his first Sprint Cup start today and it was pretty much a bust when he wrecked early, and after riding around most of the day with a wrecked car and finished 73 laps down.
Two Hendrick drivers that I figured were both favorites to win today had terrible days. Jimmie Johnson and Junior finished 35th and 36th.
Overall a good race. I wish there were more short tracks on the schedule.
One of the better races of the season to date.

I wonder if we will get to see exactly what they were doing.
One thing I don't get though is why Nascar doesn't just let them go ahead and use bleeder valves.
Stewart/Haas has both spots in the front row with Kurt Busch on the pole and Kevin Harvick starting second.
First night race of the season on Saturday night so it will be worth watching for me as I love racing under the lights at any track. I'm glad it falls on a week that I am day shift so I get to watch it.
Earnhardt Jr.: "I've been messing with the adjustable track bar and it screws up the back end of the car."
Crew Chief: "Well then stop messing with the track bar!"
Wifey got me tix to Bristol for Christmas. They've also been running a promo of prizes you could win leading up to the race. I entered every day, and finally won hot passes for Sunday's race. That means I can hang out in the infield/garage all race long if I want.

Bristol would be number one of tracks that I would like to see a race at (well except for maybe the Daytona 500 but only if I could be there for the entire two weeks). I would love to see the night race at Bristol though if I could only make it to one.

Hopefully the weather in Bristol holds out this weekend. As of right now, 80% chance of rain on Sunday.

Not sure what to expect today. The rain and cold changes the track from what everyone practiced and qualified on. I didn't watch any of the Xfinity race but when any driver leads all 300 laps in a race it couldn't have been that fun to watch. Usually any Bristol race is fun to watch but time will tell. A boring race plus having to sit through rain delays would suck. Having one driver lead the entire race would suck even more.
