NASCAR 2015 No OT please Chase for the Sprint Cup CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND Final Race: Ford EcoBoost 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway

I haven't ever seen much love around here for Nascar but I figured I would see if there is enough discussion to warrant a thread.

If you don't like Nascar, if you don't get Nascar, if all it looks like to you is driving around in a circle then just go away.

If you aren't aware of the huge changes that Nascar has made in recent years it may be worth another look. Quite a few years back they started a "playoff" system known as The Chase. Last year they made a huge change in that by using an elimination system in the playoff to reduce the remaining racers eligible for the championship after each round. I'm not going to spend a lot of time on the details now, but I'm interested in other opinions on both having a playoff and the way Nascar is doing it.

I welcome negative comments, but just keep it respectful and including reasons for them. If you just want to insult Nascar and oval-racing then go somewhere else.

I wonder who Danica will end up with as a primary sponsor now that GoDaddy is leaving? There has been some talk that she could even end up moving to a different team but I would be surprised if that happens. Maybe Stenhouse Jr. will knock her up and she could pick up Pampers or Gerber as a sponsor.
I doubt Stewart-Haas lets her go. They make way too much on merchandise and sponsorship $$. Sponsors will notice how much she brings to the table and I bet she has one by the end of the summer.

Yeah, she is probably the most marketable driver in Nascar at the moment. Even if she doesn't improve any from where she is that won't change for a year or two. After that her value to sponsors would start to drop off. On the other hand if she were to start winning and maybe make it into the Chase she could have sponsors fighting over her.

Nascar's own Deflategate is finally over as well.

RCR lost their final appeal on the tire penalty. I don't think anybody believed they did nothing wrong but I hope now that the appeal process is complete that Nascar will release the details on what was done to the tires.

If the Chase started right now, she'd be in based on where she is in points. I don't expect that to continue, but I'll give her credit for being this high in the points at this stage of the season.

Yep, and she could have been even higher than that in points if she had just ridden around in line at the end of Talladega like the other lame-ass drivers did. Instead she was in that small number of drivers that understands what racing is supposed to be and she kept trying to make something happen. Danica would have easily had a top ten and maybe a top five otherwise.

I will be surprised if we see that weak of a finish next time at Talladega or even at Daytona.

Jimmie crushing it again, wtg. Harvick has had the better season but can't argue much with wins.

I fell asleep thanks to the rain delay and a busy Saturday. Missed about 100 laps, including when Jones and Hamlin both wrecked.

I do enjoy a good fuel mileage race though. At least it makes things interesting.

Just about any race the Jimmie wins is doomed to be boring and this one was no exception. A fuel mileage race is okay once in a while but I wouldn't want them all to play out that way. The truck race was the gem of the weekend and probably one of the best fuel mileage race I have seen.

It was playing out to be a real sleeper with Erik Jones dominating the entire race and leading 151 out of 167 laps. Until he ran out of fuel with about 6 laps left. That put Tyler Reddick in the lead for 3 laps and he also ran out of fuel. Daniel Suarez took over the lead for about a lap and he also ran out of fuel. Matt Crafton took over the lead and had enough fuel to make it to the end and won the race.

Speaking of Erik Jones, he put on a show this weekend in both the truck race and in his first start in a Sprint Cup car. While he ended up wrecking and had a bad finish Saturday night he got a lot of attention by running up in the top five for a big part of the race. I hope they don't try to rush him into a full-time Sprint Cup ride but in a few years he will be one of the big names in Nascar.

This weekend is the All-Star Race. Usually some good entertainment but I probably won't get to watch it. In fact I doubt I will get to see much of the races for the next three weekends.

I haven't given a crap about the All-Star race in a while. It's just another dog and pony show for Bruton Smith. They really should rotate where the race is, but I know a lot of teams and sponsors have events during All-Star week. Plus it gives the teams a chance to be home for a few weeks.

The 600 is always entertaining, and then Dover. I'll be at Dover, so looking forward to a good weekend there.

Great win for Denny Hamlin in the All-Star Race this weekend. I only got to watch a little bit of the first round so I can't comment about the race, but from the post race radio show on Sirius it sounded like it was a fairly boring race.

But, nice to see someone different win the big bucks and also nice to see Toyota get a victory as well.

Sunday racing this week is the Xfinity Series in Iowa at the track that I would love to see get a Sprint Cup race. I want to try to watch at least some of this race but I have a lot to do. I wish this race would have been one of the next two weekends instead because I am going to be going through Iowa not too far from the track both weekends and I probably could have made it to the race. Erik Jones is in the 20 car as a substitute driver and I haven't had many chances to watch him race yet. I haven't had a "favorite driver" for a long time, in fact not since Mark Martin left Roush and Sterling Marlin retired. It's still too early to tell but I think that could change when Jones finally gets a ride in the Sprint series, hopefully not for a year or two.

I also hope when he does get a ride it is in a Toyota car. I wasn't a fan when Toyota came into Nascar but now that they are here and since Dodge can't even make a go of it I am all for other manufacturers to be involved. I hope we see some more manufacturers soon--maybe Honda or Nissan. I would also like to see Dodge make a comeback but it didn't go too well the last time they tried it.

Hot day in Dover today. Decent race, but annoyed that Jimmie wins again.

What I don't get is how Johnson can hold off guys on new tires when during the race, repeatedly old tires weren't as good as new ones.

I guess clean air is that important.

I've been out of town for the last two races and didn't see any of the Dover race. I put on last week's race in time to see the last 20 laps I think so I didn't see anything that happened earlier in that race. Today I listened to a lot of the race while driving but wasn't following it that closely. Any race that Jimmie wins is a good one to miss. I might get to catch the end of next week's race after I get home from work.

Maybe I will get caught up on the thread title for next week.

The best car all day had to be Truex. He was in the top 2-3 most of the race. He started to fade towards the end though. Hamlin was running well in the 1st half, got shuffled to around 12th, made it back to the top 5, and got wrecked by Clint Bowyer with about 15 laps to go.

Jr was a non-factor all race, as was Jeff Gordon.

On to Pocono. Snoozefest.

I got home from work in time to put the race on with I think 18 laps to go. Turns out that is about the perfect length of time to watch 40-some cars running around single file with little actual racing going on. If that is the way the entire race went it couldn't have been much to watch.

But it sounds like the best car won the race today and Truex was due for a win. While Harvick doesn't seem as dominant in recent weeks it's hard to argue with 2 wins and 10 second place finishes in 14 races.

Looking at the schedule I don't think I will get to watch very much of the races in June or July.

Good to see Kyle Busch back in victory lane.

And NASCAR drivers remembered how to turn right yesterday!
