Whee Whee Whee

Doctor Who season 9 will air on Sept. 19. Click the link below to see the trailer and be sure to watch the entire thing, there's a familiar face at the very end. Or you can jump to 1:20 to skip the possible episode spoilers and see who I'm talking about.

There's other DW news too...

Reece Shearsmith (League of Gentlemen) who also played Second Doctor Patrick Troughton in An Adventure in Time and Space will be in a season 9 DW episode.

Strax from the Paternoster Gang gets a one-off, audio drama with Jago and Litefoot.

"Played by Christopher Benjamin and Trevor Baxter, Jago and Litefoot were created by scriptwriter Robert Holmes and made their first Doctor Who appearance opposite Fourth Doctor Tom Baker in 1977 story The Talons of Weng-Chiang. They were reunited by Big Finish over 30 years later, going on to collaborate on a string of dramas with a tenth series due for release this October."

Edit:
'The Doctor's Finest' premiers Aug. 15, with interviews and new footage from previous episodes. You might need to set up a new pass if you DVR Doctor Who, as the title doesn't include 'Who' in it.

Silly me! Left one thing off the OP.

Doctor Who season 8 is now available on Netflix instant watch, if you want to catch up or re-watch it before season 9 starts.

If anyone has Xfinity/Comcast, the 8th season is free On Demand too on the box. Also on the Sept 15/16 weekend they are doing a Fathom event of Doctor Who: Dark Water/Death in Heaven in 3D [bbcamerica.com] (8th series finale) with a prequel for season 9. I would love to go but those Fathom events just cost so much!

I had been following comic-con vids of all my fav shows, my fav are the NerdHQ panels [youtube.com].

Zoe - have you seen the new Geeks Who Drink Syfy show? I think you would have loved the last episode [syfy.com] in particular b/c of some of the trivia questions. I don't drink but this show is so much damn fun. Love all the Geek trivia.

Oh yeah, also I keep seeing this ad on BBCA for this weekend Aug 15 they are doing a special Doctor's Finest [bbcamerica.com] series of episodes with special segments. (Capaldi let a spoiler slip about season 9 in this post comic-con interview/panel in Berlin [youtube.com] that I was excited about after the 27 min mark, iTunes podcast link here [apple.com].)

The tickets here are $18.90, think I'll pass, I find the 3D glasses annoying.

I've seen the ads for Geeks Who Drink but haven't watched the show. I very rarely have a drink, due to some of the meds I take, don't want to damage my kidneys.

When you said special segments, I thought of interviews with the cast and others. But they're also showing new footage that had to be cut out due to time limits or other issues. They did this before and it was very interesting, so thanks for the heads up!

I will probably have to set up a new Tvio season pass to catch these, since the title is "Doctor's Finest" and the word 'Who' isn't in the title.

What is your favorite DW episode?

If you use a Tivo...

The shows just had those episodes listed as 'Doctor Who' but with more time on each episode than the usual hour long show. So since the shows have the original air date on them, you'll have to set them up to record, unless you have it recording old episodes too.

I'm partial to the Eleventh so Pandorica Opens/Big Bang b/c River also The Doctor's Wife, but there are so many that I love. How about you?

I wonder if those cut out segments eventually show up on the DVDs which I never buy or watch for DW....

I'm not a fan of the new actor, whatever his name is. Perhaps I'll warm up to him in the new season - but like all doctors, they are all eventually reincarnated.. His time will come.

It's hard to pick just one, I have favorites for different reasons.

The one that always makes me cry and smile is Vincent and the Doctor and I just love that Bill Nighy is in it. Love The Doctor's Wife too.

The scariest one is Blink, or perhaps The Time of Angels/Flesh and Stone.

But then Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead while really scary, is also that moment when (spoilers for anyone new to Doctor Who)

I never buy the DVD's so don't know what if anything I'm missing. Do have all the specials they've aired over the years on my DVR.

I like Peter Capaldi, first thing I ever saw him in was Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere, he's a good actor. BUT, I really haven't enjoyed him as Doctor Who, I don't like his take on the doctor and am hoping they'll change doctors again soon.

I'm still on Season 2 and have a lot of catching up to do. I also want to go back watch all the Doctor Classic seasons.

A lot of the classic Doctor episodes are missing. The BBC used to reuse the tapes and record over a lot of shows after they first aired, not just DW. Mad

Thankfully a lot of DW episodes have been found tucked away in archives, old TV stations, attics, etc., in other countries. But there are gaps still.

I am also not a big fan of Capaldi. Well, the actor is just fine, I guess I just don't like this version of the Doctor. Also dislike Clara. Loved her in the first episode she was introduced in. I was so interested in her character. And then it became dull/annoying.

I started watching season 8, but just couldn't get into it, and haven't finished watching it.
