Are there any runners in the Lounge? OT is fine as long as it has something to do with you running.

So I started Couch to 5K this year, and today I begin week 4, day 1. I'm finding this to be easier overall than I expected it to be.

Who here runs religiously, and what advise do you have to give to someone just starting out, such as myself?

Motivation is not a problem. I find myself looking forward to each run so far.

Due to life factors, I haven't run since I ran the 5K on Saturday, until today. I rean my longest and farthest run today, but my pace sucked.

3.38 miles
41:58 total time
12:25 avg pace

However, my last 1/10 of a mile, I sprinted an average of 6:58 min/mile. woot

So today I ran 5 miles with an average pace of 13:14. Total time of 1:08:50.

I hurt! Especially my shoulders and feet. Legs are more or less fine.

Sounds like your progressing pretty well High Five Ive been consistently running for a couple of years now and I average around an hour on 5 miles. Doing a mud run 5k in Breman this weekend, no idea where that it but I thinks it somewhat in your direction.

I haven't run much this summer since it's typically been over 90 with humidity in the 90%'s.

I tried a treadmill and HATED it.

So on my trip to Seattle, I ran from the Seatac airport on International to the top of 170th and back. It was a nice two mile run with a steadily increasing elevation all the way to the summit of 170th. The run back down was a bit challenging also, since parts were fairly steep.

This was Friday morning. I'm still feeling the burn!

DH does a couple of different bike rides, one just happens to take him by the Red Hook brewery in Woodinville, which sort of defeats the purpose of the ride. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

laugh out loud You have to give the Redhook people points for building their brewpub beside the Sammamish River trail, the place is always packed, even though the food sucks. Wink

TBH, it's not the best beer either, there are much better breweries in the PNW, so I'm not sure why they do so well.

I think you might not understand the meaning of 'purpose'. Just sayin'.

I hated a treadmill run too until it became my only option for several months in a row given the heat & humidity around here.

Get some music or a podcast. Find the trick that sends your brain away for a while. Run.

Now I do ~3 miles every day at work. For a while I thought I couldn't do it without music but one day my headphones died and I could still get to that Zen place. I figure a lot of crap out on that treadmill, too.

Keep at it & eventually if nothing else you'll Stockholm Syndrome yourself into liking it. Wink

It's not the music or entertainment, it's that I don't actually GET ANYWHERE. Maybe it's in my head, but I've tried three times now, and I just don't like it. Even if a smokin' hawt chick with a sooper nice arse is on the treadmill in front of me, I just don't like the whole treadmill experience.

I am excited for the weather to cool off a bit so I can run on the street again. nod

Gotta send your brain away, man. Dunno any other way to explain it. Sooner or later the desire to run overcomes the distaste for the circumstances. And the way I look at it, I AM getting somewhere: 3k or 5k or 10k or however many thousands of steps closer to my goal(s).

And I had to do it WAY more than three times before I started just tolerating a treadmill. Hundreds of runs later I'm actually sort of looking forward to it. It gets easier...
