My local Costco had Nighthawk X6 wifi routher for $199 after $50 Instant rebate. You will get better price and better WARRANTY through Costco.
My previous netgear broke after 2 years, Costco refunded full money. Sure you will get better warranty through Costco.
That would be nice, but why would BB being sending the router back? I assume it was an unopened box. Wouldn't they just put back out on the shelf or if it was open, sell as open box item?
Unused, unopened and undamaged returns that are currently stocked in the store get sent back? For what reason? There are agreements like that? I just don't see the logic.

How do you know so much about the condition of the product? The perp never commented on that. And besides, all these routers have serial numbers that can be easily scanned and verified. Just because they didn't catch it at the return time doesn't mean they won't catch it down the line. All large stores have processes in place to at least monitor this type of fraud. Whether they want to follow up on this specific case has yet to play out, but the capability is there and they would be within their rights to press charges.
If I was the perp I wouldn't have pulled this in the first place, but if I had an attack of stupidity and actually did it, I'd put it right before it blew up. I'd go back to the store and tell them that I had made a mistake and had returned a unit that had been bought from another retailer. That would hopefully cover my ass. Of course, if this was the sorta $#1t I pulled all the time, then I'd do nothing but just sit back and enjoy my freedom while I could.
The Nighthawk series of routers are great right up until they stop working for no damn reason. Stock firmware. No attempt to upgrade which could have failed. It just simply stops having any throughput on the WAN port of more than a few kbps/sec. The forums are loaded with the same issue. Netgear's response is a slightly more professional version of, "Screw you. We already have your money." Upgrade or downgrade of firmware, factory reset, and third party firmware still result in the same issue once it starts. Stay the hell away from these things.
I don't think you can do that anymore at costco especially without the reciept
then stop thinking. because you are wrong..

You can return without receipt, they can pull up on their system but only 90 days return on electronics
also WRONG.

Not true. Only certain electronics have the 90 day return window: Televisions, Tuner-Free Displays, Projectors, Major Appliances, Computers, Touchscreen Tablets, Cameras, Camcorders, MP3 players and Cellular Phones.
Costco's return policy isn't unlimited anyways. It says they guarantee your satisfaction on items. It's always up to the manager to if they want to accept or deny a return Rarely though do they refuse returns on normal things. Source: I've worked at Costco and my brother is a manager
I bought this in July at Costco for $199. It has better range and speed than my older netgear N600 but in regular usage its not that significant. I figured the range would be significantly better but its not. Still kept it but when I was using 2 N600s I got all around better coverage and similar speeds.
This is what I did too. I'm on a Asus rt-ac3200 now but signal kept dropping when moving to th edge of house. I tried Asus rt-ac5300, that's equivalent to Netgear X8, while rt-ac3200 is equivalent to Netgear X6, the one on sale here, the first gen tri-band router.
What I learned though is the 2nd generation Trib-band doesn't bring better coverage than the 1st gen. Check out Amazon Netgear model comparison here https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KWHMR6G
The 1st gen tri-band, e.g. Asus rt-ac3200, netgear X6 (this one), used technology two generation ago, therefore you'd find the coverage is weaker than the cheaper older model. from that Amazon table, you can see X6 used the same processor and antenna from X4 and even earlier.
After realized these, instead of upgrading to the latest 2nd gen tri-band, I simply bought couple used older models, in my case I installed two asus rt-ac68u, as repeaters, and inter-connected via the 5Ghz bands. Suddenly I have strong signal everywhere even to neighbors and street.
Obviously, a single latest dual-band router such as Asus rt-88u (a,k.a 3100u) or Netgear X4S might achieve the same, but I love the single SSID dynamic switch feature from the tri-band router and repeaters are also set with the same SSID for roaming.

We think alike... My exact response to someone justifying an expensive ac5400 router for his aunt. Last page, final comment.
Interesting, in my setup, the ac1900 (asus ac68u) has a much farther 2.4Ghz reach than the asus ac3200, albeit there radio are supposed to be the same. I wonder why.
On SNB, the chart also shows ac1900 class of router from any manufacture are generally better on 2.4Ghz. I believe the later models might've improved 5Ghz radio dramatically, but consequently ruined the 2.4Ghz as a trade-off, of course nobody would say that out loud.
Note that is not the X6 R8000 that everyone else sells. It is a Costco only model R7900 with slightly lower specs and probably not compatible with the standard X6 firmware.

I had the same issue. The WAN port stopped working right after 1 year warranty expired. I'm using it as an AP now. No more Netgear.
