Hey if any of you with diabetic kids or are diabetics yourselves have some good recipes for simple foods, please PM me. Dizzy from looking up all this stuff online, too much info overload. Logging off now to go fill out the forms from Teri037's post. I'm skeptical if we'd qualify since technically we have health insurance but it's worth it to bring to doc and find out.
My little sis (well not so little @ 19) is type 1 diabetic since she was 8. I have lots of info, recipes, and even moniters. PM me.

Its a shocking diagnosis at first but then it becomes a part of life and everything goes back to normal, and he will grow up with a normal childhood. you'll see. these days they make it easier and easier. insulin pumps instead of injectios (sis got one at 15.. but in the hospital she met babies being fitted with 'em),etc etc. pm me.

Hi I just wanted to add that my 2, 4, and 7 year olds use the Aquafresh kids bubble mint flavored. Its not minty at all. Tastes like bubblegum. And it does have flouride in it. HTH
Thanks, I will try that one next. It is like pulling teeth to get DD to brush her teeth. She hates it.

I have no idea. Will ask tomorrow. I have 2 contours downstairs and I know lots of other people have way more than that. Would be fabulous. Maybe shoppingfan or someone else knows??
Sam...I have a bunch of those $30 off Contour and Ascensia meter q's from the inserts awhile ago. They don't expire until March of 09. I bought a bunch to use for overage before checking to see if they had the cheaper ones around here. Of course they don't, and only have the $80 ones, so the q's are yours if you can use them. I don't think it matters what meter you use, just that the strips are meter specific. But if they come with free strips, it might be worth it to switch off. LMK

that is the same one i tried yesterday that said it was expired. i tried it again today though and it took $5 off every book in my cart (if the book was under $5 it became free). but after spending more than 4 hours in the checkout process i just couldn't handle the insanity of the site anymore and gave up. i also found i have 2 charges for this transaction pending in my online bank statement. no order status to view online and no confirmation page ever loaded and no confirmation sent through email.
Thank you for posting this...I need to check my credit card now. I tried putting a big order through about 5 times Friday night while sitting in the ER for 6 hrs with my mother. I kept getting errors throughout the different stages of checkout. For all I know I could have a bunch of orders for about 100 books now. EEK!

It may be a little late for this advice, but I used the Shopsafe credit card number. I set it up where there is a limit on the amount that I want them to charge.

Even after all the errors & no confirmation, it went through as pending. Not realizing that was why it tells me there is a problem with my cc amount, I set up another number.

Just now, I went back to look and both numbers have pending charges. I just delete one and kept one. Really want only 1 order of xx amount of books... Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

I'm going to ask tomorrow if we can switch once we're done with all the one touch stuff. With everyone here that gets contours for overages and maybe a post in the CVS thread, I'm sure I could get a couple of months worth of strips from the free meters. I'd be so frickin happy.
Poor kid was screaming, soaked and thirsty. Had to rock him for a while. My nerves are shot. Should start packing for tomorrow but afraid I'll wake him. Think I'm going to bed and will wake up earlier than him and pack.

hug It will get easier. I know that's not much comfort right now, but do know that it will. It's so new to you all and hard on everyone right now, especially since he is so young and doesn't understand it. Go try to get some rest. hug

PS. the q's are yours if you can use them. Just lmk when you find out.

Hey everyone! Thanks for all the pms. I am still around and reading, just don't have much to post and too darn tired to do it after trying to catch up on the thread. A whole bunch of nothing!

We have been busy! Weekend getaways, meetings at work, concerts, camping this weekend and it was beautiful outside! I think I'll make it my mission to find a great new deal! Smilie

Sam - I have 15 of those contour monitors sitting here in my living room waiting for a donor LOL! Definitely could be you! And if you don't have those meters in your stores, we do. I can get them for you with your q's from devilmomma!

If you are able to get these meters free you should end up with a small pile of testing supplies...the meters I have all came with like 15 test strips and like 2 weeks supply of lancets..the syringes are prob the baby fine grade ones and some pharmacies dont stock them so will be hard to work into runs...the cotton, and swabs are really cheap and will easily work into target or Wm runs....Recipes...well for his age that will be tough...just about everything he will like he will only be allowed a very small portion of...Its gonna be an adjustment process there..weaning him off "nono" foods and integrating things which will make his blood level more stable over time... the thing he will be good at is many meals throughout the day (most times they reccommend 6 smallish meals compared to 3) as most toddlers like to pick...just have containers of chopped up veggies, cheese, fruit, grilled chicken, and stuff like that already prepared so that you can just grab a small amount for him when he needs to top of his tank...
As for the DH thing..I am kinda in the same boat right now...at each others throat bcuz its stressful to have your lil ones ill and not be able to do everything just right or at just the right time..my guess is it causes a lot of breakups...Just try to give each other some space and tell yourself he is trying ( I am sure he is...lol) and take one day at a time...I am a firm believer in we arent handed any more than we can handle...it just may feel like we need bigger hands!! hug

Hiya,
I have at least 14 copies of todays inserts - if you PM me your addy, I'll send out the monitor Qs ASAP. Also, if there are any supplies we can pick up for you at T with overages this week, let me know. Or any deals that I can help with, I'd love to help. I have quite a few friends who are type 1 diabetics and they are all very healthy and active folks. Most of them you would never know they even had diabetes. Hang in there - and big huge hugs!
