No insult at all, that's what chat is for, voicing our opinions. Just a lot of peeps think it's the insurance companies that make things up when most of the time they are just going back the government standards.

I think I'm going to bed and seeting the alarm for 11, I'm just tired.

Is shipping expensive at shutterfly? I want to use these peelies for holiday stuff for the inlaws. Just wondering. I doubt they'd let you use 2 codes at a time, or would they?

You can use as many of those peelies as you want. My sister has had me enter over 10 already. She usually gets something like 20 4x6, 3 8x10, and 12 5x7 and pays between $5-7 in shipping.

I missed the opening ceremonies. Didn't bother taping it, I knew I'd never have the time to watch it.

Just saw your question... yes and no. Yes, because it is important to not spend all of your time laying down. Your muscles will just atrophy as will your cardio-vascular system. But at the same time, any "weight bearing" activities that you do will likely put pressure on that nerve that is being pinched. Better physical activities than walking would be either swimming (or walking in the pool) or biking (either stationary or on the roads). These have lower impact than walking and won't cause as much pain. This isn't something that he will just be able to "tough it out" through the pain, unfortunately. If he is in a lot of pain, one good thing to try is a position that will put his spine in the most "neutral" position. Have him lay down flat on the ground and then prop his legs up (under his calves) with either a chair, coffee table, or a lot of pillows. The goal is to get his hips at a 90 degree angle and his knees at a 90 degree angle (this is called the "90-90 position). This should help take some of the pressure off his pinched nerve. 15 minutes in this position and he should feel better for a bit of time - great one to get him into if he is in a lot of pain...

Hope this is helpful... Feel free to post (or PM) me any more questions - I have a decent amt of experience in this area...
Smilie
Hi - this is one area that I can speak from experience as well...not as a doc, but as a patient with a successful correction! I had an L5-S1 hernitation where the nerve was being pinched and virtually paralyzing me at their worst moments. This had me, on two separate occasions, hospitalized for a week at a time where they had to give me "the gas" (nitrous oxide) just to "unfold" my body when it locked up. I had to go through "the process" of least invasive to the final, ultimate correction, surgery.

I started out with physical therapy, doing the tiny hip flexing movements that you describe - only there were never any chairs or anything involved. I just layed on the table (in the office) or on the floor (at home) and the best way I can describe it is to push the small of your back to the floor by shifting your hips upward just the tiniest bit. Hold that position for a count of maybe 5 secs or so. Repeat about 10-15 times a couple times a day. It doesn't seem like it would make a difference, such a small motion, but oh my God, did it help relieve the pain!! It didn't "fix" the problem, but it gave me a small amount of relief.

They moved on to the epidurals - up to 3 of them (I only lasted through 2 before I couldn't phathom them doing that to me again) - I had to have IV sedation for them to do that to me - and it didn't do a damn thing either time, so we didn't even bother with #3.

Finally, maybe 6-8 months later, I had the surgery - L5-S1 fusion. It was the best thing I could have ever done - not that I don't get a strained back every once in a while like most people do, but I haven't been wrapped around a corner on the floor in about 10 years!

Bottom line, let the doctors do what they can do, don't rely on the pain meds (I KNOW how hard that can be!!) and try some of the physical therapy "tricks" that they should be able to give you. And if you really, really feel like you're not being heard by the docs, go for another opinion - or have another doctor in the same practice offer their opinion. Just remember that every time you change doctors, you pretty much have to start "the process" over again so they can see the results for themselves - if you see another doctor in the same practice, you shouldn't have to start over.

Sorry for the long-ass post but this is an area that I'm pretty passionate about - I thought that life as I knew it was over and yet I went on to do in-line skating racing and marathons - something I NEVER would have thought about being able to do while I was paralyzed on the floor with a gas mask over my face!!!

Hang in there -

Besides putting it on stilts and making it higher or finding a way to keep him from climbing on it in the first place, there is no way. "No" doesn't work because as soon as you leave the room he'll do it anyway. Maybe put a bunch of pillows on the floor to cushion the fall? We moved all toys away from the general vicinity to make the falls easier. Mine does that too and uses the couch to launch himself onto his train table.

Do you do time outs with him? You could try putting him in time out for 2 mins. every time he does it. If he hates time outs, he'll stop soon enough. Just a thought.

You know, if he was 3.....at this age 18mo they don't get the whole time out thing. My hubby tries it when DS throws stuff at us. He just looks at him during TO and then life is normal. Too young to understand. And besides, TO is a good excuse for a cuddle for me. I'm a terrible mom. Or he'll start smiling and then I'll start laughing and there goes the TO

DD's 4 and she still laughs at me sometimes when she's put in time out. Yeah, she's a handful this one. I guess you're right. 18 mo. is probably too young for them to understand the TO. It's been awhile since I've been at that stage...seems like light years.

just jumping in here even though nobody asked me... but my 3yo HATES time out. she takes it totally serious. since i only do it when she really messes up (i.e.- punches her sister or something) she'll just stand facing the corner and cry. but when she comes out she's sorry and acts right so that's that.

as far as the couch thing, if he's allowed on it it's going to be a jungle gym. so try telling him he can't be on it at all... if he's not on it- he can't jump off it right?

If you are a DORK like me & did not get in on the free diapers at Wags last month it is kinda happening again this week.

Wags diapers BOGO1/2off = 2/$11.98
minus $5/2 IVC
minus $2 wags $50 pharmacy saving Q book X2 = $1.48 each

I did 12 in one run & 6 in a other....but some have said the cashier is keeping the pharm Q?

I have a binder, I love it!!! & I use post it folder tabs to identify each section like T aisles etc...& so - - I get ridiculus bout some of themlike one page marked huggies, one marked pampers...& I have $1 long coupon file from T that I put drug store/ grocery fliers nd Q is -- my 'planned' runs -- I cant not bring everything into T.

CAREFUL!!! this can be very expensive & look horrible!!!
.
Yeah that is what I am afraid of, I spent so much money tring to get the wood to look good ( stain removers, stain, oil primer, oil paint, brushes, rollers, paint stripers, normal paint and primer) that I could have gotten new countertops. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic) So yeah I am kinda afraid to try it! But peach is not really my idea color for the bathroom. laugh out loud

Well white tile here so we were relieved about that!! Won't get to those bathrooms until next year probably. We did have some mint floral patterened carpet for the formal sitting room that looked like no one had walked on it in 40 years. Probably didn't. We've had people driving slow past our picture window, too because we tore down the center wall that separated the formal from the living room. So now you see straight thru our house instead of just looking at a paneled formal. Looks like a completely different place! Thank goodness!

So I stained the backs of the cabinet doors today. They look nice. Then came in to stain the cabinet and 1/2 looks good and 1/2 sucks! I don't know what happened. Some stain just dried super quickly and I couldn't rub it like I was supposed to. I hate it. Dh hasn't come home to see it. I'm going to have to sand these back down. Cause the last thing he said was don't screw these up, I WILL NOT sand them. Well crap. I'm hoping to only sand down to the paint. There's 3 layers of paint under the stain. Hopefully I can do it without repainting also. Sucks for me!!!

And this is only the right side of the kitchen!!!! Dang it!!!

And this is a small kitchen but I think when you paint, it grows!!! And then shrinks when you have to cook in it!! laugh out loud
EEK! Oh so sorry your cabinets hug Some one told me ( I have not tried this one yet so you might want to do some research frist ) but that gel stain evens out better, something about smothing on easyer and looking more uniformed. Might want to check it out.I feel your pain, I only have the bottom of one side done and that after a whole week of work. So now I am regrouping and going to try and get it done at night or weekends when the kids are asleep or something. Its a really big project.

Just think we will have nice kitchens that we love when its done..... nice kitchens ..... nice kitchens .... laugh out loud

Sounds like my youngest who is 2 1/2. I swear Dylan is more gusty then the other two ever were. He jumps off of everything. Climbs on everything. He has no fear what so ever. I tell everyone that the oldest may of thought about doing stuff like that, but never did it. The middle would think about it and do most of it. The youngest just does everything. Doesn't even think. I think they get more gusty the more you have..lol. If that's the case....I'm in for it with this next one.OMG

So DS isn't supposed to drink juice now that he's diabetic unless he's having a low. Any guesses to how much juice I stocked up on before I knew this? DH and I are drinking them as fast as we can but DH still needs to get through the soda, V8 and gatorade. I like the apple and some of the other minute maid flavors but I don't like most of the flavored JJ except apple. They taste weird.

On my diabetes site someone was looking for discounts for contour strips. Felt good to put some q's in an envie and send to them after all the one touch people sent me!

I need to go out at lunch and get a case to keep his insulin in for traveling. We have a bunch of coolers and stuff but they're all too big. Think I'll do an energizer run at CVS as well. That's probably it.
