People taking peelies (coupons) off items in the store

486 September 25, 2008 at 05:01 PM in Chat (4)
Do you think it is wrong or okay for people to take peelies (coupons) off of items in the store when they don't ever buy that item?

The Pond's peelie thing was a promotion with Momma Mia. No doubt Universal Pictures is picking up the tab on this or at least splitting the difference with Ponds. Each one of those Peelies is attached to a $12 prepaid Mastercard #, so they've already expensed it.

The ONLY problem I have with people taking peelies are the people who take entire pads or entire shelves of peelies without giving a few others the opportunity to get some as well. I live in an area where people think nothing of taking entire shelves of peelies, leaving nothing but the goo behind. I just can't do that. I have more than enough Ponds peelies and never took more than half at any given store. (As I break my arm patting myself on the back! LOL! laugh out loud )
I actually did buy some ponds!! Yuk

Let me re-word it then. Tearpads are placed on the shelf in front of the products they correspond with. Peelies are placed on the products they correspond with. What's the difference? Whether you take a tearpad, or take a peelie, you are still taking something intended for a product. Had the company thought it through they probably should have used the tearpad system in the form of a mail in offer for a free movie ticket, with proof of purchase.
There is absolutely a difference (and I think you know that) but I'm not going to keep arguing with you. I know you're just trying to rationalize it so you don't have to feel guilty but you're never going to convince me that it's okay to steal peelies off of products on a store shelf. We simply don't all have the same moral and ethical standards so we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one. shake head

Is it me or I think it is wrong...but I wouldn't go as far as to call it theft. When you say the word theft it has a such a harsh meaning and a mental image.

I voted no but I think it is wrong especially if it would genuinely increase the products sales.

So, uh, all you people who say there's nothing wrong with doing this? You wouldn't mind backing up your statements by removing peelies in front of the store manager, would you? Removing them in front of the store security guard would work, too.

After all, if there's nothing wrong with taking them, you won't get in any trouble, right?

I think the fact that a lot of people on the Shutterfly chat forum who have been discussing the Pond's peelies have stated that they felt guilty about taking them, which proves that they know it's wrong.

The Ponds company didn't put those peelies on the products hoping to catch random shoppers' eyes in case they might want to see a free movie at their expense. It was a marketing ploy to entice people to buy Ponds products, and the shopper would then be rewarded for their purchase. Stealing the peelies off of the products without purchasing them is exactly that -- stealing. It isn't the value of the item that was stolen, nor the possible consequences if the person is caught stealing them, it's the principal. The Ponds product they stole the peelie from is depriving another shopper who actually did purchase the item the opportunity to see a free movie.

It's the same as putting in one quarter in the Sunday newspaper box and removing 20 newspapers because you want the coupons, or ripping out the pages of a magazine without buying it because there's a free product coupon inside. Plain and simple, it's theft and it says a lot about your character (or lack thereof) if you do it.

Actually, I took mine while standing there talking to the manager. In fact, I asked if I could take some extra. And, I don't need to rationalize anything, because I've done nothing wrong. I have bought the product. I have nothing to hide. As for morals, I would not even attempt to broach that subject with someone from an internet lounge that doesn't know me, but yet is so quick pass judgment. I also take tearpad coupons from my local convenience store. the cashiers save them for me...

I also do not pass judgement on others. But, some people get off on telling others what they consider to be right or wrong. I prefer to clean my own house. The whole point of responding to this thread was the OP was so obsessed with it. It was funny. Some people however, are very intense about little peelies, and suck the fun out the thread. I imagine all those people are perfect in every way. Life is too serious in too many other ways. Lighten up a bit. Seeing as how the OP is no longer around, it's time to move on. I've got peelies to collect Smilie

I will always take coupons that I can use. I won't take them just for the heck of it though.

The OP thought it was wrong and you came in here telling others it wasn't. As for the obsessed. I see you have posted in here alot more than the OP.

easydoesit was such a valuable asset to the board, a brother in arms if you will. I'm sure he will make a comeback with a new IP. BTW I like to take peelies, and see nothing wrong about it. They are their to be pealed off. It may be implied that you buy the product but in 90% of the cases it is not stated in writing you have to buy the product they are attached too.

Yeah because when I go shopping for cars I just walk up and take the tires and sometimes the wiper blades and sometimes the review mirrors.
