I can't believe this just hit FP as I just had the worst experience ever with this item and HF. I purchased this same refurbed unit in October for $639.99, it arrived with dents in the tank and the electrical cord near the switch was severed and repaired with electrical tape. I emailed Product Support and after a month they had the shipping company pick it up and they sent another refurbed unit. This time it was missing parts and the oil inside was milky brown like it was left out in the rain and of course there was no top cap where you put the oil in. This unit also had some deep scratches on the tank so I emailed Product Support and asked for a third and they said they were clean out of stock and that they would give me a full credit including the freight delivery. This was literally 3 weeks ago at this point and I just received the credit yesterday after almost 4 months. Now they are selling this for $159 when they literally couldn't supply a replacement to me 3 weeks ago? Someone is either getting the two units I returned or a ton of people had the same experience I did.

You've been warned.

depends on what you have. do you have a power panel in the garage. if you do the electrical your self vs electrician. finished walls or open....
No panel in the garage. I used to be a automotive tech and I've done tons of automotive wiring for race cars so could probably handle the wiring myself after doing some reading. Walls in the garage are open. Right now, there is a line that runs to the garage that branches off to the opener and an outlet.

where is your panel? the last compressor I installed was straight 220/240v which used 12/2 wire and a 20a breaker. it's really not much harder than wiring a car. check your local codes for how to run wire.

from the look of things this one will require 10 gauge and a 30 amp breaker. Not sure why they say 40a on a 23a current draw. in my area 40 amp Breakers I think require 8 gauge which is getting to be really fat.

Racebum is not confused. Just like wiring for a dryer or other 220V appliances.

for those of you afraid of HF reconditioned, I wouldn't be.
My opinion is that the HF stuff is more likely to fail (which is FINE at the PRICE POINTS of their products, and you can return) because they're chinese made stuff with poor QC with tolerances and such.

But if one was bad for some reason, the fact that they reconditioned it is more promising than a new one, to me. It had someone's hands on it and has to go through the reconditioning QC process.

It is cheap because it is Refurbished. Or as the description so elegantly puts it "Factory reconditioned, factory perfect"
factory paper weight... question is do you have the storage space for your 60 gallon paper weight?

I'm not an electrician by trade so I can't speak for codes and generally accepted standards but I do fully understand the theories. Although the running current may be equal to an electric stove or a dryer, large motors like this have a huge startup surge. I have no doubt this HF model is even worse than average. Any breaker can handle a certain surge above its design trip rating for a short time period but that still may play a role in their suggestion.

you swear like the reconditioning goes through tests like they build apple iphones... if you like to gamble this is your deal... but if you dont have time for bullcrap i wouldnt take a chance on this deal...

I think you're probably right about that. that's the only logical thing I can think of as well.

does not hurt to go with the recommended 40amps (beside it does seem oversized) except the pocket. copper wires is pricey. best to run a dedicated line from your panel. I am in Chicago so I am used to emt. the power in your panel can kill so be careful. there are two "legs/lines" and a neutral in there. each leg to neutral gives 110to 120. leg to leg is 220 to 240. shutting your main does not kill the power inside your panel.

Hmm. Need to paint motorcycle fairings. This, plus the cheapo paint gun would come out cheaper than having them professionally done...even after shipping. Decisions...
If you have a garage that doubles as a small shop and need a compressor - I would be all over this. Easy to justify especially with the DIY paint savings.
