Read this if you're on a Simple Choice plan -- which Simple Choice plan and how your data is achieved makes a huge difference in what you'll get and what will be free. (All T-Mobile ONE plans come with baked-in unlimited data so these issues don't affect those customers). There are a ton of variants of the Simple Choice plans:

- 2GB voice line
- 2.5GB voice line
- 4GB voice line
- 6GB voice line
- ...
- Unlimited voice line -- This was available starting around March, 2014 and ran until roughly January, 2015
- 2GB voice line + data package -- This was available until around February, 2014
- *GB voice line + data package
- Possibly more

On some Simple Choice plans, the data is included in the line itself. On other plans, the line is fixed at a set data amount and unlimited data is achieved via a data package (the underlined version up above). Take a look at the difference in wording between the two plans:

Simple Choice Promo, this plan includes:
- Unlimited talk, text & high-speed 4G LTE data while on our network.
- Two lines for just $100 per month; add more lines if eligible for $40.00 per month, per line.

Simple Choice, this plan includes:
Your choice of additional high-speed 4G LTE data.
Two lines to start; add more lines if eligible for $10.00 per month, per line.

On the Simple Choice Promo, the plan itself comes with unlimited data. On the Simple Choice, the plan comes with 2GB data, and additional high speed 4G LTE is a $20 add-on.

The 'get a 3rd line free' promo (like the '2 lines on us' promo from November) only applies to the voice line itself, not the data package. Many people have the plan where unlimited data is part of the plan/line itself -- for these people, "Add a line" is unlimited and $40 (see wording above), so they receive a free unlimited line with the promo. For others, like me, the "plan" was 2GB and the unlimited data was a $20 add-on -- my "add a line" could only ever be 2GB (and was $10) but I could add an unlimited data package for $20.

I had kept the latter for years because I could add a line and get unlimited data for $30 ($10 + $20) instead of the other plan where it would have been $40. The net result for me was that I had unlimited data, but how I got there was different (and cheaper, which is why I kept it).

If your Simple Choice plan is structured such that your unlimited data is an add-on package, not part of the plan/line itself, you will not receive a free unlimited line. You will get a 2GB (or 2.5GB on some plans) line for $10, and you will only receive a $10 bill credit. If you add-on an unlimited data package, this will not be credited/reimbursed.

Source: Hours on the phone with T-Mobile yesterday (3/2/17). Long story, but a phone rep told me to do something which, once I did it and called back an hour later, rendered my account ineligible for *all* free line promos. They had to get with management and promotions to fix my account since they had a record of me being told that. It was through that process that I had all these quirks explained.

What is T-Mobile Hook-up code ?
The T-mobile Hook-up Code is a code employees can apply to 5 different accounts for a 20% discount for life, it was given out to all T-Mobile employees for new customers only w/ eligible port in. See details here https://www.reddit.com/r/tmobile/...00_update/

If I have my own sim card, do I have to pay the 25 dollar new SIM fee?
If you have an unused sim card that can activate on T-Mobile postpaid then no you don't! Just call in, say add a line when prompted, then say no equipment needed to purchase. The rep will then be able to add the line free of charge, you will need a credit card for verification purposes though. Simcards that have been previously activated will not work.

*************

T mobile reps are giving sim card for $ 3.99, with tax 4.29. As per customer rep they just got instructions to reduce the price to $3.99 from $25.00

STAY AWAY! Many of us did not get Magenta Friday free lines credits YET! We are still fighting with them every month to get credited for these lines...
Yes, so far I have called every month to get free line credits. Pain in the arse
Add me to the boat of people calling each month to make sure the credits are applied. Every bill is painfully confusing.

Does "activating" simply mean opening an account and lines? We don't necessarily need to have a live account with a phone attached to it correct? We're pressed for time on getting phones (our Sprint ones can't be unlocked nor do we want to purchase new ones from T-Mobile yet). At the same time, we want to make it into their closing window tomorrow for the $150 back. I went into the store today and the rep said we need to have working phones and be able to port by tomorrow. Conflicting reports everywhere.
If you open an account the account will be "live" I've ordered new lines before with no device ready, and I was still able to port, and get promos on it etc. As long as you can port lines in 14 days after opening the account and apply for the promo, you should be good. Just tell the reps you want to open a postpaid T-Mobile one plan with BYOD, and that you checked on your own that the phones work and you just need some sim cards, if they give some push back, just ask them why you can't do it, and mention you will happily take your new activations to another rep who's willing to help them if they don't want the commission. I don't see any reason they would stop you.

You need a live account with a sim attached to it... You do not need a phone. You should call your near by T-Mobile store(s) and ask them if you come in and open a new account today, will you set me up with one of your 20% off 'hookup' codes. Try to find a rep that will use there hookup code for you. Look in the tmobile 2 for $100 thread for more info on thehookup.

You have 30 days to port (or something like that). You need to get the active sims with tmobile phone numbers assigned to them, than you are able to get the $150 after porting. The rep was wrong.... And also ask for them to wave the sim fee (after you are done getting the hookup code submitted and right before it is time to pay... You can probably ask for them to wave both and if they say no, try to get them to wave 1 of the 2.
If I missed answering something, let me know.

And why can't you get the sprint phones unlocked?

The $150 does not stack with the etf reimbursement or the pay off your old phone deal.

There is currently a promo where if you can find a rep that is willing you can get a promo code called "the hook-up code" that will apply a 20% discount to your plan for life for new customers only.

Thanks - sounds like I will need to find a rep willing to provide a hookup code and able to set up my account without a phone. Would sure be nice to do this all online so I can also get some cash back through one of the deal sites.

I thought port in simple giving info of previous carrier to T-mobile port in team to start port in process. What is TheHookup code ?

Look at the tmobile 2/$100 thread and you will find in wiki or last few pages... Employees got code 10 days ago good for 5 accounts. Code is the 'hookup' which gives 20% off lines for new account for life of account. So 2 lines for $100 + the hookup would be $80/mo.... Makes it soo much sweeter Smilie

https://promotions.t-mobile.com/tmobilehookup

If they are willing to use their code for you, make sure to use the number you are porting in and the ss# of the account owner (likely you). You than have 14 days to port your number over. You have to port a non-tmobile number in, it can be a mvno as long as it is not metropcs... It can be sprint or whatever.

If anyone is in the dallas area that needs the hookup, pm me as I know of a store or 2 that seems to have their codes still.

To recap, new account add your 2 lines (active sim cards with t-mobile phone numbers) and you do not have to port numbers yet... Add 3rd line when deal goes live... Add 4th+ line at least a day after your 3rd line sim is active with phone number.... Can be temp tmobile number, does not have to be port in number.

Port in must be within 14 days for hookup and (i think) 30 days for rebate. Rebate ends the 28th, free line starts the 1st.

And remember to take pdf/print the promo faq and any terms for the free line and hookup as you might need them in months to come. Take pdfs of everything.

Oh, and for the hookup, be sure that after it is entered, you get a print out of the conformation page with conf number.

I'll definitely be asking around for the hookup code. Funny as I was able to score a few free SIMs from some other Slickdeal posted a long time ago. I just need to find a rep/store that can provide a hookup code and set up my accounts without me having the phones present. Sprint won't unlock while on contract. I had another Sprint phone which was off contract and they supposedly unlocked it. However, when I went to T-Mobile to verify if that phone would work, it didn't. Sprint is known to have issues with their phones switching to another carrier. I'm going to use the $150 towards paying off my old Sprint contract.

BTW - with the new 3rd line free deal, does this mean I should only activate two lines tomorrow, and the 3rd/4th line after the March promo starts? Or, do I activate three lines tomorrow and activate the 4th line on March 1st? The confusion is based on the cost difference between 3rd and 4th lines and the potential loss of the $150 line credit.

So is that TMO time (Pacific Time?) or the local time of your account? Wondering if I have some time to clean up my account in the next few hours.
JamesqNo, it is saying that if you have 2 lines on your account, you can add a 3rd line free. or if you have more than 2 lines on your account, you can add one more free.

The free line has to be a new line.

The free line has to be after all the lines you have had since 1/1/17. This is, if you canceled a line on 1/1/17 and now have 2 lines, you will have to reactivate that canceled line and than you can add a free line (line 4).

If you cancel any lines after getting the free line, you lose the free line.

If your bro's line is with someone else (not t-mo), than you can add a line and bring his number over and that added line will be free.
Honestly don't know. The page did not specify. I canceled the line in time for EST.

2 lines tomorrow, 3rd line free, than a day or two later add the forth line.

The wording if the deal that I saw states the 3rd line free or additional line.... 2/100, 3/140, and 4/160... If your 3rd line is free you save $40, if your 4th line is free you only save $20. Remember to screenshot the terms in case you are missing credit every month.

There is a thread on slickdeals where someone detailed how to get the sprint phones unlocked. If your sprint phones have the correct bands for tmobile, you might try to pay the phones off and request unlocks immediately after, follow the thread that I mentioned (you will have to find it, I sighted it in the target iphone sprint thread from last week,I think) and in about 4 days your sprint phones will accept the tmobile sim cards and you can port.... But if you don't have the money to float the payoff, that won't work.

Oh, your scored sim cards will be of no use for the first 2 lines, your goal is to get the hookup and if it costs having to pay 20 each for 2 sim cards it is well worth it... You can call 611 after you get a working phone and ask them to credit you back the $40... Might take a couple calls but well worth spending the 40 to get the 20% off in the case you do not get the 40 credited back.

It's in the fine print. It said 1/1/2017 earlier in the day but was updated later to after 2/27/2017.

On all T-Mobile plans, if the network becomes intermittently congested, top 3% of data users (>28GB/mo.) may notice reduced speeds due to prioritization. Limited time offers; subject to change. Free Line: Qual'g credit req'd. Customers cancelling a line after 2/27/17 not eligible. May take up to 2 bill cycles. 1/acct; must keep existing lines. Taxes/fees may be applied to pre- bill credit price on some legacy plans.

You can try #tmobilehookup for a code but chance is slim and ordering online will not get you activated sims, you will likely not get the $150 rebates if you order online.

I'm in the Miami, FL area and will be moving 2 lines from AT&T to T-Mobile tomorrow under a new account. I would appreciate a hookup code if you have any available. Thanks!

Or just call your 35 local tmobile stores.

Quote from Jamesq :

Someone said they 1/1/17 is being updated to 2/27/17.... ???

Thanks a bunch Jamesq - you've been a great help. Will try to dig up that thread regarding Sprint phones.

In short:

-Get two lines activated in store by tomorrow. Find a rep willing to provide a hookup code and 2 activated SIMs with a T-Mobile number and I will later port over my lines within 14-30 days (need to verify what's the duration).
-On March 1st, activate a 3rd line to get in on the freebie line deal.
-A day or so later, activate the 4th line.
-Submit my claim for the two $150/line credits on the lines that were activated by 2/28.
-Try calling T-Mobile to get $40 ($20x2) SIM fees waived.
-Enable auto pay to get the base pricing above.
-Get lines ported over within the deadline.

The outcome will be:

-A base plan for $120 ($100 two lines + free 3rd line + $20 4th line)
-Discount of 20% = Monthly will be about $96 total for 4 lines
-$300 back ($150x2 lines)
