What you'll need to start:
A stainless steel (preferably) stock pot, at least 3 gallon capacity. Aluminum will do.
A basic brewing kit. Northern Brewer item #7601 [northernbrewer.com]
A recipe kit [northernbrewer.com]. I would suggest a porter or a stout for your first brew, as dark brews are very forgiving of beginner mistakes. I would suggest using US-05 dry yeast.
A fermometer, NB item #7411 [northernbrewer.com]
Starsan Sanitizer, NB item #7930 [northernbrewer.com]
I would *highly* suggest some Fermcap-S, unless you like scrubbing nasty gooey dried up wort off your stovetop, NB item #9136 [northernbrewer.com]

Is there going to be a pump or are you going to add another burner or something for the top tier? Typically I thought the top tier was the HLT so a little confused.

their is a pump just under the middle tier. I mounted it on the inside behind the mount so the outside of the unit is flush. The top tier is for the mash tun. Since you really don't want to cook the grains if I have temperature issues I will have a copper coil in the HLT that i can recirc the mash through to bring the mash up to temp. The bottom tier is the HLT.

I have a new found respect for homebrewers. I have been watching Brew Dogs with a passion and look to try to start making my own concoctions this summer. starting of course with the not so brave and risky traditional home brews like traditional wheat ales until I get the whole process down. so you may be bothered by a brewbr00ce in the coming months, Matt Smilie

Ahh, I see the pump now. Makes sense. Nice job on the casters too btw.

EDIT: Did you decide to go with a PID or not? Sounds like a whole lot of work, but the pay off would be pretty sweet.

welcome aboard! i would say for the most part brew what you like to drink the most. Wheat ales or low abv beers are sometimes the trickiest beer to master IMO. With less flavors gives the off flavors more prone to show through the beer. The brewing process is easy, but flaws show themselves. But if thats the type of beer you love, brew it! Once you get started let me know and i'll help you out.

yeah i even added adjustable legs so when i brew on uneven ground.

the PID option is on the backburner for a few reasons. Cost is the majority and my burners are high pressure propane. PID's only work with electric, natural gas and low pressure burners. But maybe in a year or so i can change them out if i decide to go that route. I just really would like a display panel that shows and controls temps, have all my pumps (hot and cold liqour) on switches, and a gfci power outlet to plug in whatever i need to.

excellent. I guess I didn't mean from a simplistic perspective. more that getting the technique down with what is a common traditional beer just until I get the whole mash, wort, fermenting process down. because I know what to expect from at least the taste of what a wheat beer SHOULD taste like. while may be more complex to balance the flavors, I think it is what would make me learn what is off and why it is off in order to get a decent grasp of the process.

I just didn't want to it seem like I was thinking right out the gate that I would be able to make a cactus beer with red pepper flakes, rosemary, a splash of gypsy tears, and a drop of snakes venom into something you'll see on the list at the next microbrew like the guys from Brew Dogs make it seem so easy to do. brew day tomorrow on my new setup. Still not fully completed but i will be using my old mashtun. Did a passivation of all my new tanks with welds on them, my random stainless pieces, and my pump. Brewing up a pretty simple brown ale tomorrow. 6% oatmeal brown.
grainbill includes:
2 row, chocolate malt, munich malt, c60, flaked oats and some rice hulls because my 2row is milled really fine.

Still not finished with my brew setup, contemplating on upgrading my mash tun to a sankey keg, my only concern is mash volume concerns. My cooler is larger so i might just keep it as is. But here is my sculpture from saturday's brew day. It worked amazing, and made the brew day super easy.
