How does this fair against the steam deck ? I am enjoying the 256 regular model is this better - Im not a huge tech guy
To me they are not directly comparable, the Deck is more like a console where your main interface is bundled into one seamless ecosystem. Sounds like you know that already though. These Windows handhelds are little Windows computers. That might be a good thing or a bad thing to how you look at it. A problem on a Windows device is likely going to be easier for 'not a huge tech guy' to stumble through because everything is so familiar if you use a Windows PC in your normal life, but the Steam Deck shouldn't have any issues if you stick to the 10,000-15,000 verified or playable games. You can always go buck wild beyond that though. I also think the Steam Deck has a HUGE HUGE HUGE plus with community controller profiles, especially for older games without gamepad support. Playing a 15+ year old FPS with zero config time on a handheld is worth its weight in gold. These Windows handhelds do have stuff like that but the community support isn't at the same level...probably never will be.
Now there are just some games that DO NOT WORK currently on Linux, mainly stuff with anti-cheat or 3rd party stores can be a pain too. RockStar for example if you have games inside of Epic or the like (launcher on top of launcher). Big mess.
So...clear as mud
BTW, not sure where you live but I see open box prices near me starting at $343.99 for the Ally. That is mighty temping.
Still in a tough price point versus the competition
I mean, if you are referring to the SteamDeck this is better by a decent margin. The Steamdeck (512gb LCD) comes in at $449, while this is $429 for the same storage. The Rog Ally (even noting its not the extreme version) generally gets higher frame-rates compared to the steamdeck. The only perk the steamdeck gets above the Rog Ally is it's 1280x800 60hz screen, compared to the Ally's 120hz 1080p display. If you really want the steamdeck, then more power to ya. Personally though, I'll take more power and a higher resolution

I'm just commenting on the general handheld market. Glad there's more competition to drive prices down, I just personally don't get why this thing exists.
I went the z1 extreme route with the Legion Go too. Life's good, slickdeals good, wallet bad.

Still happy with my non-OLED SteamDeck, though. I know OLED is awesome (have the OLED Switch and regular Switch) but I just bought the SD this year.
