What is the difference between the Ryzen Z1 vs Ryzen Z1 Extreme?
- Z1 (non-Extreme) is like a Ryzen 5 (12 core) and has integrated Radeon 740M
- Z1 Extreme is like Ryzen 7 (16 core) and has integrated Radeon 780M

What are the gaming performance differences?
- the performance for general usage and 2D gaming is not noticeable
- heavy 3D games will be significant since the 780M is up to 3 times faster than the 740M depending on the game being played

How does this perform against the Steam Deck?
- This falls a bit short of matching the Steam Deck in terms of gaming performance.
- This chart will help you visualize it: https://www.digitaltrends.com/wp-...m-deck.jpg
- This ROG Ally (Z1 non-Extreme) review does a good job breaking it down: https://www.digitaltrends.com/gam...z1-review/

Not a new deal but good price for the basic Z1 (non Extreme). If I were a buyer tho I'd go for the Extreme. Some benchmarks are up to 60% faster so the Z1 isn't really worth it
It's a good price but only for the right type of user. At high wattages the performance of the Z1 extreme version of the Asus Rog Ally is much better. It also struggles to keep up with the Steam Deck and gets crushed in a battery life comparison.

So where is it useful? Maybe if you're playing lightweight games that require Windows or if you are game streaming on Geforce Now using the 120Hz display. But outside of this its hard to recommend as a product. I would recommend either Steam Deck or the Z1 Extreme version of Asus Rog Ally.
Not worth buying this. The igpu is much weaker than the Z1 Extreme version.

Youll have buyer's remorse.

gonna 2nd the thought. the extreme version is the one worth the money. probably why this version gets discounted. there really IS a bad decision when it comes to the ally. quick google will give you more details but 9/10 people will regret this over the extreme version.

I think the UnExtreme version would be good for more CPU-focused stuff like emulation. The lower the price the better obviously.

And there's a newer processor out too so I would skip all these z ones

Steam Deck slightly outperforms the base version Rog Ally. Either get a Deck or the Z1. Also the micro sd card slots burn up in these.

Z1 Extreme was $100 off a week ago. I would wait until it goes on sale again..

This is too weak to play AAA local games at good performance but its also overpowered (ie expensive) for simple games or cloud gaming.

This is the price it should have been to compete with the steam deck base model.

Same price as steam base model: lower chip performance but better screen.

Software wise just a matter of preference.

I would say this is a fair price for its value. And I do love ASUS.
