looks all plastic from the photo. This would dry out and crack within a year in my desert climate.

What do you do to keep the flies and gnats away? 🤔
This is too much effort and messy, just get some bird seed and call it a day.

Different birds like different foods. I am curious about how to keep bugs away. Maybe the birds just eat them too?

Bird seed does not typically attract orioles.

Don't think the birds are bothered if insects are around, since they are around their other food sources as well.

Does this have any rubber or porous materials that will attract mold? I have a glass hummingbird feeder that got mold in the rubber gasket even though I clean it every other day.

Washing it every other day might be why you got mold. Mold likes wet and dark environments. So if there is constantly trapped moisture, you will get mold. I know you might think the sugar syrup would count as moisture, but it's too sugary for mold to grow from it easily. I never have mold in my hummingbird feeders here in southern California, and I clean it maybe every couple months or so? I also let it completely dry over 48hrs, when I do wash it.

edit: I just got mine in the mail, and this specific feeder suggests rinsing it every 4-5 days, and using vinegar to disinfect. Also there are small rubber pieces that cover the nectar holes so that bees don't fall in and drown, but they come off easily for cleaning.

Ant moat and a bee guard? What about a wasp trebuchet to make it truly medieval!
