I worked as a remote trail worker and bathed in snow melt creeks every day, but I don't s**t on people that enjoy hot showers. I do s**t on people that needlessly gate keep the wilderness though.
I spent a few summers on fire crews and we would have killed to have access to something like this. The bigger fires had shower trailers , but a lot of the smaller ones didn't. I suppose you could call us "so Chicken" for wanting hot shower after a few days of cutting line and mopping up, but to each their own.
You are going to go through a lot of propane tanks trying to heat that much water

Can this be converted to natural gas?

Possible if you can find a limiter that fits. I recommend you contact the manufacturer. They probably have one or can point you to one.

It all depends on how you describe it. You can call it outdoor living and it'll be much more acceptable.

I tried a Helicoil? I think it was called. It would have taken too many of them to make a noticeable difference, I have a small solar array that is dedicated to a heating the pool, it produces about 1200 watts. I assumed resistance heating was the best bet, its 1200 watts and doesn't seem to make much difference either.

Resistance heat is COP of 1. With your 1.2 kw array in full sun that's about 4000 BTUs assuming 100% efficient inverter. A heat pump with 4 COP would be 16,000 BTU. Keep in mind 1 BTU is what it takes to raise 1 lb of water 1 degree. So with water at 8.6 lbs/gal and 20k gallons you're at 172,000 lbs, or 172k BTU/hr to raise 1 degree F assuming no losses to the environment. Using your solar array with 4k BTU resistance heat would take about 3 weeks to raise your pool 5 degrees with 10 hrs/day of full sun. Probably not noticeable.

My pool heater is 400k BTU.

For a 20-25k gallon pool, this would heat it approximately 1 degree a day if running continuously. It would also burn 2 full 20lb propane tanks a day. If your pool isn't covered, you will likely lose temp overnight. I bet you'd gain 5 degrees at most from continuous heating over a couple weeks and 25 bottles of propane.

Would this make a good choice for an outdoor shower you don't want to pipe hot water to? I know I have a hose faucet that has way better water pressure than the shower does.

Agreed. Everyone should stay home if it means warm showers. Only complete morons would want to take cold showers.

Absolutely! Hook it up, crank it all the way to hot and hose them down until they pack up and leave.

I wonder if I could run the water from the toilet through this and then to the bidet...

Actually, if you search youtube, you can find someone that uses a similar unit for exactly that.

I've bought about six of these water heaters -- various brands, all the same, mostly Camplux. Never buy from Eccotemp since they are crazed marketers, will actually call you on your phone exhorting you to buy stuff. I use these to heat up hot tubs at my three houses, and I also have "swim spas" which are bigger, with enough space for me to exercise by kicking in the water while holding onto the edge. Not deep enough for tethered swimming, still working on that. These can be aggravating to use. The gas flame on 50% of them would go out constantly, in the slightest breeze or whatever, until I found a solution on Youtube (removing some safety parts). I use Seaflo pumps that are normally used in RVs, Inkbird temperature controllers, and the water circulates from the hot tub to the water heater. Awesome when they work. I have a hot tub that uses 220V and would normally heat it before I got in, it would take 2 hours from 96F to 104F. With a propane water heater, it takes about 30 minutes. Four times faster to heat than 220V heating for a hot tub.
