Just came across this that Amazon is having a special on the newer MacBook Air with the M3 chip. Seems like a decent deal but don't kill me on it. I'm neither a Mac or PC fan just came across this and looking for a deal for my kids seems like this might be a pretty good offer at this point, take it or leave it. Your choice just wanted to share to the community. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CX23V2ZK

Glad we got the RAM comments out of the way early. For what it's worth, my M1 with 8GB of RAM has no problem doing any kind of office work– MS Office, Edge browser, connecting to remote computers, light photo editing. Battery life is a beast on top of it.

Yeah I don't know what these people are talking about. I've had an 8gb/256gb m1 mini since release and it hasn't slowed down or exploded or become a useless paperweight. It has routinely had office, Apple Music and multiple browsers (typically safari and Firefox) open (with at least 10 tabs each) and it runs great. But I guess they need to spout nonsense to feel important and knowledgeable.

Im sorry buddy, buy you're the reason why $1000+tax for basic 8gb/256gb considered as an 'amazing' deal.

That 8gb on Mac slowed down significantly after a month. I only use office and chrome with 10 tabs. It's slower than my i3 1220p with 12GB ram $259 laptop. I recommend against anyone buying it unless you are those people who can not even differentiate 60hz and 120hz screen side by side.
I call BS on your post buddy. I've been using M1 Air with 8gb for the last few years and it hasn't skipped a beat and runs circles around my windows laptops with 16gb of ram.

This computer is $999 every day on Apple's EDU store, so not really a deal imo. Especially since it will effectively be even cheaper this June when Apple starts its annual back to school promo.

sure thing, champ. I never said it was a good deal though and I certainly wouldn't spend $1000 for that spec. Just gets tiresome with people crying about 8gb of ram in every single Mac thread as if every person is going to be doing huge workloads on these base models.

I used to buy Mac laptops and desktops until they stopped users from upgrading themselves. I should be able to upgrade ram and the harddrive anytime I want. I won't buy an iMac or MacBook or Mac mini until I can upgrade these basic parts myself. 8gb of ram was enough in 2010….not now.

Are you a windows person?

Yeah and even better if one stocks up on discounted Apple gift cards.

My cell phone has more RAM than this laptop. I heard, the 8GB RAM version crashes during large zip archive decompression, because of the little RAM size. That's crazy. Don't buy.
I mean it obviously doesn't crash for that reason as storage backed virtual memory has been a thing for decades and continues to be a thing. Yes, the machine might have 8GB physical memory, but application memory is limited only by available storage. Only difference is that paging memory to storage can really slow things down. But from the apps point of view it's all the same. The operating system handles the details.

Computers don't just crash when they run out of physical memory. This isn't the 1990s.

Not that agree with Apple at using 8GB as a baseline and charging out the nose for more …

hey guys... classic apple consumer clown here.... i'm a real user and 8GB ram is beast mode on apple silicon. it handles everything i throw at it and the kitchen sink !
ppl don't understand that 8GB costs so much in 2024.. that's why apple needs to charge us, apple consumers, so much ! 16GB of ram is so expensive to put in computers ! ppl don't need that much ! hey.. and I get it.. it costs like $30 for 16GB of ram on amazon.. but apple uses special more expensive and more premium ram that no other company uses ! remember guys.. this isn't a yucky windooes machine... where you need like 32GB of ram.. i mean.. yeah it's really cheap to get that much.. but still ! you don't need it.. i mean ya it's rly cheap.... but.. anyways.. 8GB of ram on apple is completely diff guys

anyways guys... 8GB will easily last me the next 6 years! it's BEAST MODE ! ppl make too much of a big deal out of nothing ! 8GB of ram is impossibly awesome on apple silicon !

Also we as humanity shoud tbe thankful for apple getting us 8GB not 4GB because its A P P L E you see.. I saved my $30/hour flipping and door dash combined job to save to buy M A C B O O K you see..

I get the apple silicon is great but the basics of computing wont change.. I mean we run terabytes of mem on apps and petabytes of SSDs but Snapple only gives us E I G H T mghty GB..

Like the 16GB 15 air is whooping 1800 with tax... MSRP

I wouldn't be in this damn forum unless my apple fanatic son and family weren't brainwashed that apple is the only thing they touch...LOL
