Just called T-Mobile to confirm activation and the call was dropped mid-call. When the T-Mobile rep called me back, the line rang on the new S8. She confirmed that the SIM and IMEI in their system matches the new one I entered on the Samsung.com website.

So in a nutshell -

Insert the provided new sim card into the S8
Activate phone on Samsung.com and enter new SIM info
Wait about 30-45 minutes to allow the activation information to propagate through T-Mobile systems
Enjoy your new S8 on your existing line
Activation - 866-265-4504(select option 2) for T Mobile.

POTENTIAL INABILITY TO UNLOCK T-MOBILE PHONES BOUGHT DIRECTLY FROM SAMSUNG.COM
https://www.reddit.com/r/tmobile/...g_tmobile/

Looks like someone successfully unlocked tmobile phone purchased from samsung.com
https://www.reddit.com/r/tmobile/...k/dh2ok5k/
EDIT: Except they didn't... read the whole comment thread

XDA member has gotten the phone unlocked successfully

Quote from cert15z :
You need to call T-MOBILE and get your request escalated to a Sr. Technical support rep. From there, they need to have your device entered into the device distribution inventory system. Once that is done, you will be able to use the Device Unlock app on your phone.

So much mis-information in this thread...

I bought the S8+ from samsung.com and successfully unlocked my device. Instructions:

Option 1: T-Force
1. go to facebook.com and send them a message
- Request to speak to T-Force and someone from that team will immediately take over the message
- Please note there is a delay between responses (I'm guessing they're talking to multiple folks) of about 3 minutes so be patient
2. Tell them you bought your device your T-mobile branded device directly from samsung and you need your IMEI added to their Database in order to use the Unlock App
3. They will ask for the following
- email address
- phone number (you'll get a link to verify your account)
- IMEI #
- proof of purchase (send them a picture via the facebook messenger app)
4. They are aware of the situation and will escalate it to the correct team
5. Wait 72 hours (I actually only needed 48 hours)
6. Go to the Unlock App on your Samsung S8(+) and click the permanent unlock button (see attached picture below)
- if successful it will tell you and you'll need to restart your phone (I had to do like 3 restarts)
- just keep spamming the button once or twice a day (be patient...it'll work out)
- the Unlock App will disappear from your app drawer (it's actually just in the "disabled" state so it doesn't show in app drawer)
- Put in another SIM card to verify (I put in a AT&T SIM to validate)
7. Be happy because this was super easy
Note: do not need to wait 40 days (this is not true ... I had my phone for only 1 day)

Guys, to those who plan on buying device from Samsung.com,
myunidays.com is offering student discount on Samsung phones, It mentions up to 20% discount. But it *may* void the 750 rebate.

Multiple people have checked with Samsung rep, and were told a new line is required. Note: Term and conditions does NOT state NEW LINE but only ACTIVATION ON POSTPAID WITH DATA. Other users have confirmed this with reps, with chat pages saved, phone recordings...

As for Activation,
Shop Samsung App allow pre-activation. and the promotion page (click on the promotion on dicovery) on the app says rebate will be accepted.
if still skeptical. go to samsung.com somehow normal link to "my account" doesn't work. I tried INCOGNITO, and it lets me log in and start activation.

sailakfan Today at 07:33 PM #2254

Once you get the phone you have to go to Samsung promotions site and register with the imei, proof of purchase. Once they validate they will send the code to your email.

https://samsungpromotions.com/

https://promos.samsungpromotions....lixredeem/

You can use Shop Samsung app to register your promotion. In the app, go to Menu > My Promotions, and register. For proof of purchase, take screenshot of your order (hold power button + volume down to take screenshot).

I can get to the account page but when I click on activate I get the same message as others even though I "pre-activated" ahead of time. Called samsung CS and was told the number to dial for Samsung's mobile activation department is 866-265-4504 but of course, they are out of the office as of 5PM EST.

Just spoke to the Samsung activations Dept, they are aware of the website issue and said their tech team should have it resolved by the end of the day so phones can be activated at samsung.com

Quote from dragon1976 :
anyone having issue with zip code error. I was able to pass that and successfully activate.
1. download Samsung shop app on Samsung phone with Samsung account added in setting.
2. open Samsung app and select my order
3. fill out your tmobile info
4. if zip code error enter zip code that is tmobile coverage. keep trying with zip code that works
5. open chrome incognito and log in Samsung.com
6. go to my account and there you will see info for entering imei and sim

Those of you who are getting "service not available please try again" error while activating the phone from samsung.com. Please try to activate one of the phone using the line on any of your friends T-mobile account. Put your friends Sim and press activate. I confirmed from samsung and it is fine if you activate one phone on your friends number. You dont need to keep using that phone on same number to get rebate. Just activating is fine.

We should all email Samsung US to get them to fix the activation issue quickly:

You need to active the phone with your carrier(T-mobile).

I don't have to activate a completely new line with T-Mobile? I can just activate it on one of my existing 4 lines?
*** at 16:15, May 18:
Then Samsung will refund me up to $750?
Kalyan V at 16:15, May 18:
Yes, you are correct.
no guts no glory
Does "activate a line" mean add a new line, or can it be activated on an existing line?

To what price will it soar to?

The Verizon version is sim unlocked and costs less than $600 now with the new Trade-in promo. Prices for every version will go down not up as these phones hit the resale market.

The screenshot I just added is just the asking prices before negotiations and fees from swappa and PayPal and shipping.

geez, it's that bad, huh? I sold my s8 on ebay for 660, s8+ for 750. buyer paid shipping. ebay bucks had a promo 8% back of selling price (making final value fee only 2%). plus 3% paypal cost me 5% total. and eb@tes gave 4%. so I made a good profit. Big Grin

ebay's having another promo for 50% off final value (targeted though), making it 5% + 3%paypal. not great but not as bad.

How does eb@tes factor in to a sale on eBay? Are you referring to 4% off on Samsung.com?

i don't think you can. Sprint only unlock for their active accounts. 3rd party on ebay? or maybe XDA found something? I have not been w/ apple for too long.

Fun stuff until around day 179 when PayPal let's you know the account balance is -$727.50 because the buyer is disputing the transaction.

Unidays was "up to 20% off," for S8 it was only 7%, which was not bad, but also not 20%.

this is what it said

A refund has been generated for your order as a result of your request, the fulfiller's request, incorrect address, or a refused shipment.

Is this what everyone else got? Sounds more like a refund but w/e. I'll post back once I see the money in my account.
Did anyone get this before activating on Tmo? I never actually activated but my account is still refunded.

Also chatted on twitter and rep unlocked both devices.

Unidays is about 10% off the Verizon S8+ right now and with the $250 trade in promo its down to $528. Screenshot for proof.

No. Plenty of existing TMo customers (including me) were able to do it without adding a new line.
