Now they are telling me that there is a special Sprint SIM card made for the unlocked Galaxy S8 that I will need to obtain from either them or a store.
Is this true? With VZW / Tmob / ATT, one SIM card worked on all the phones.
1) Purchased T-Mobile BYOD SIM from Amazon (~$10). Presumably can also be found at T-Mobile stores.
2) Ported out from Google Fi -> Google Voice (cost $0) Took around 24 hours, started at ~2 PM Eastern Time on a weekday.
3) Once # was ported to GV, used Hangouts to receive/place incoming calls on it temporarily via WiFi.
4) PM'ed LiterallyUnlimited on Reddit who moved my Pixel XL from PLBL back to SPCS so it can be activated on Sprint.
5) Activated T-Mobile SIM on their pay as you go plan, and got a new number. Did not top off, since I couldn't pay just $3, had to put at least $10, as far as I could tell. Signed up for a T-mobile account right after it prompted for payment. A port can be requested, if you'd like to move the original # to Sprint -- I left mine at GV and will use GV app so that my original (now GV #) shows up as outgoing caller ID. Using GV, calls to my original number will also be forwarded to this new ported #.
6) Once Sprint's eligibility checker was showing my IMEI was eligible, called Sprint and told them I had a SIM sent by telesales and wanted to sign up for unlimited promo. I had requested SIM from them a few days ago by phone -- cost $12.95 for 2 BYOD Sprint SIMs. I went through the process of giving info on myself, Pixel XL IMEI, Sprint SIM ICCID, etc. Gave port details as T-Mobile prepaid, with # as acct number, and pin to what I had set initially when activating the SIM card. Credit pulled hard on Experian for me (NH). Asked for identity verification questions, approved for up to 5 lines. About 40 minutes later or less was done with call and had order number.
7) Started to receive Sprint related e-mails a few minutes up to an hour after call ended. Got home, placed Sprint SIM in phone, and did a carrier reset, and phone started working on 3G, and saw the T-mobile # on SIM, and data/calls were working. Set up Sprint account online after received e-mail saying profile was added to account, and verified the promo was applied correctly.
8) Did a carrier reset this morning from an LTE area and after a reboot/PRL upgrade, LTE was available.
Everything was actually pretty smooth. Longest that took was the GV port from Fi. Hope this helps others.
I currently have the T Mobile Promo of free data for life (200MB per month) but this could work lol.
I just dont know how Sprint would be in Rural Kansas.

If I call sprint, will they speed up the process?
