You first would need to get Sprint to whitelist the device. But whitelisting doesn't SIM lock a phone. However, Sprint does have this really weird wall between prepaid/MVNOs and postpaid. If you used an unlocked phone on Sprint postpaid, you may have trouble using it on Boost, Virgin Mobile, Sprint prepaid or Sprint MVNOs.

I don't think that should be a problem. I already swapped a moto xpure to nexus 6. Will see what happens on next bill.

The only thing the terms state is no upgrades for 120 days, that is dpp and leases.

You can buy a used phone from swappa, just confirm from the seller that the device is fully paid off, not under lease and the line is not under contract. Then check the IMEI when you get it.

I would like to start using this service from 7/31 or 8/1. Should I order the SIM in advance then wait or wait first then order the SIM later couple of days in advance? What's the ideal date to activate with considering the downtime for porting and such?

Why do you want to wait till last moment do at least one week prior in case there are delays in getting sims or porting especially from GV can take up to a few days.
