If I decide to port out and port back in to Sprint, I will need different SSN. We closed my wife's Sprint 3 months ago, how soon she can reapply and would there be another credit pull?

Is it just me or does nobody else realize the promo states good until 2019, which is over a year away...could that be a typo?...

I scrambled last minute two days ago to get in on this deal, when it said it ended 10/31/17 & most people thought it would end after that date because the T-Mobile Sprint merger fell through.
You did well to "scramble". It well could have ended yesterday. It was not worth taking the chance. In addition, the Sprint terms state that they can end this promotion at ANY time.

I think 3 months is enough, but "yes" to credit pull.

Sprint extended this promo yet again yesterday. It's now good until 1/31/2019. Yay for us!

Mind you, you still ONLY GET ONE YEAR worth of Free service, not free service until 1/31/2019. Sprint is just saying that if you, say, add a line of free service on your account in like March 2018 that they will only honor the promo free pricing until Jan 31, 2019. So sign up all your lines or new account BEFORE 2/1/2018 or lose time off the end of your free year.
But, others have said that this means if you register now, you get it for 15 months......

On sprint.com/activatenow, it asks for the SIM card number. One could just enter the SIM card number that they already have on hand, provided that:

1. You have already been approved for this BYOD Free 1 Year promo.
2. It is a new, inactivated Sprint SIM card.

Try it. If you run into a snag, by all means call up that dedicated 800 number and set it up there.

Good luck. Smilie
So, the online system will let you go through the application/approval process without ordering a SIM?

The wait time is 45 days so your wife's SSN Number IS CLEAR and can qualify for this promo— subject to credits approval/worthiness.

BUT you can't use any phone number that has been in Sprint's system, including Sprint's MVNO partners, for 45 days. So you can't just use your current Sprint Number with your wife's SSN because your number is still in the system (for 45 days after you port out).

What I would suggest is porting out to Google Voice. Then set up a rubbish prepaid AT&T account and immediately port that AT&T Number into Sprint for the BYOD Free Year using your wife's SSN.

(The AT&T Number is just a "dummy" place holder number to wait out the 45 days for your own old Sprint number to clear.)

Then set up Google Voice to forward all calls to the dummy AT&T Number once you port the AT&T Number to Sprint so you don't have to deal with giving out and juggling two numbers.

Once the 45 days has gone by with your old Sprint number on Google Voice, pay $3 to have Google Voice open your number to porting, call up Sprint and have them port out your old number on top of and a replacement for that backup AT&T Number. Follow?

Or option 2 is to port out your current number with Sprint to a non-Sprint carrier, wait 45 days then try to sign up all over again using your SSN or your wife's.

Good luck. Smilie

this is totally false.

i and many others have ported out of sprint (in my case h20).
and the very next day ported back into sprint with same number.

kindly refrain from posting such incorrect information
there is already a lot that going around.

your post sounds like u know what u r talking about, but clearly u dont

is not enough to say "well thats what sprint csr told me"

What I'm saying is that the verbiage on sprint.com/activatenow doesnt expressly say it MUST be the SIM card from the sprint.com/1freeyear website/order. And that it's worth trying to input any new, unactivated Sprint SIM card. If it spits out an error or doesn't go through, then call Sprint. 👍

There is nothing false about the 45 days required and clearly spelled out in this very thread. If you had luck with H20, great! Here's a cookie! But that does not GUARANTEE that everyone else will.

"Your post sounds like you know what you're talking about" BUT you obviously missed the part about Sprint clearly stating that you must clear their 45 day wall— both your SSN & YOUR NUMBER. If you found a loophole, Sprint didn't care at the time and you got lucky, again, GREAT. But the fact still remains that others MAY NOT and those others need to know what their options are.

OK, I think I understand now. You are saying that I could use ANOTHER SIM. But, I am guessing from what you say, that you can't create a Free Year Account online without ordering a SIM (whether you use it or not). Is that true?

Example, I have an unactivated Sprint SIM I picked up at an Apple Store last week. I check my eligibility on sprint.com/1freeyear. I get approved.

I then go to sprint.com/activatenow with all my info, account numbers, PIN, IMEI, credit card, etc and put in that unactivated SIM card Number I got from Apple last week.

If it spits out an error, no problem, call up Sprint.

What I, personally, want to avoid is a phone rep claiming that this promo is "online-only", putting me on the $60 plan without my knowledge or consent and not learning about it until I get a nice big ol' bill in the mail (or eBill)— as some other people have reported when they set up this promo by phone— there's threads about this issue on Reddit

So try sprint.com/activatenow first but have the 800 handy if you run into a snag.

Good reminder. I think some of the problems people are having is because they are calling the more general 800#!
