Also, are you using a Moto E4? There have been reports of similar issues specific to this phone.
It is indeed a moto e4. I haven't seen other people's comments about this though. Maybe it is a device specific issue then.

Does anyone know if you actually need to have your phone on you to activate the SIM? As long as I have the SIM and IMEI can Sprint activate my BYOD line?

I want to add a paid line to get the Essential phone but don't want to miss out on the free year and don't have my phone that's Sprint eligible on me at the moment.
You could run into an issue if you try to access your online account. Whenever you log-in for the first time from a browser, it will ask to send you a code to your phone. If you don't have your BYOD on, then you can't get that code.

On the Moto e4 with this plan, wechat and some other apps do not get a signal on Sprint LTE, only on Wifi. This is when NOT making a call. Anyone else have this problem?

I think it got figured out finally. They didn't even wait or ask about phone being on just took IMEI, SIM, read the terms, took my GV number and pin and sent me off. About an hour later still not seeing any number ported but online chat said it's in progress so we'll see, maybe it goes thru tomorrow during working hours. At least they say the BYOD is in my account now so I went and added a 2nd line w Essential

I share data on Verizon with iPhone 6
Plus and iPad Pro. Each has a phone number

I did eligibility check for iPad and it's number. Sprint said it was eligible

Anybody get sprint to give them 2 lines , one for phone and one for iPad?

It says tablets ineligible for this promotion right on the eligibility check page. Could you swap in after line setup? That I don't know but would think not.

You were able to access your online account without your BYOD phone? or did you do everything though phone/chat?

I have an iphone6 that was previously on R+. Its IMEI passes the BYOD checker. Does this mean I'm all good or am I going to run into issue later on?

Once it is successfully activated on the plan it will stay that way.

I ordered the account + SIM. The account/PO on the paper that came with the SIM is the actual account number. I just used that to create my account online, so I had an online accessible account since before I even registered the BYOD Sim and activated the line.

Now, I don't know if it was because of this, or because Sprint's site sucks, but I haven't been able to get anything to really load on the site. I also had to get Essential into my cart, sign in, then proceed from cart for that to work. Otherwise it'd just lock up and not let me pick a plan everything was always "loading."

edit: should mention I did finally have the email come through of a successful port so things may have actually worked out after all.

Chiming in with my experience. I got the sim a month ago but didn't try to activate until the 5th. I did the initial set up and everything seemed to go smoothly. I ported in from FreedomPop and immediately got a success email. It said i was good until 1/21/19 which is great. Anyways, it said to wait 10 minutes which was fine. The next day I called in to sprint to try to activate it or get it to work since I saw some users had problems until they called in. I was on the phone for about 20 minutes and they said that the problem was that I didn't set up autopay( do that on your own if you can ffr).

The next day it still wouldn't work so I called again. They asked me if the number was still active, which it wasn't because I ported it in from FP. So they kept telling me that I had to call them in order to reactivate the number so they could port it in. This went on for an hour and my fp account no longer listed the number I tried to port in and said my sim was ready to get a new number(since I ported out already). I tried to get them to change the number being ported in to the new one fp assigned to me but they said they couldn't do it.

I gave up and 10 days passed. Today I was trying to see if I could get in on the essential phone deal and instead of asking me to log in with the code from my email, it asked to send it to the phone I originally tried to port in. I checked the phone and lo and behold, the port in process FINALLY completed!

Long story short, if you're porting in from FP it is going to take a very long time. Don't waste your time, I already did that for you. Set up your auto pay, wait about 10 days or so, then you'll finally be ported in. I only get about .30mbps @ my current address in 93215, im sure it's better but it's fine for just the unlimited talk & text, we have 110mbps wifi. Sorry about the formatting and long comment. I just wanted to share my experience, this was with the Moto G5+ as well.
