I opened a new line to get Essential and paid off right after having the phone in hand. It showed upgrade eligible. So I went to BB and upgraded to G6. but after that it shows not eligible until 2019.
Did you upgrade BB on their website or in person?

All the US models now start with SM-G950U then next 3 characters define color, and the last 3 characters which define carrier. VZW-Verizon, XAA-Unlocked version, SPR-Sprint, etc.
Example SM-G950UZKAXAA is S8(smg950u), black(zka), unlocked(xaa). Your phone is not passing cdma on ting so it is not in database. If your phone ends in XAA then it will qualify as S8 special edition. You need to contact Sprint tech support and get a knowledgable tech to add it. Other people have done it but thread is so long I dont have the number.
Do you know difference between XAA and XAS ?

Re: PLBL flips

Your old carrier should be able to do it. Twigby, Tello and Fi all have the ability to flip the phone's database flag from SPCS to PLBL. Contact them first before contacting me, because due to the number of requests (and my actual job), it's taking a while for me to get back to people contacting me for a flag flip.
Thank you for this tip. I was literally on the phone with Sprint tech support to swap in my phone that had been on an MVNO. The Sprint tech support said she and her supervisor could not see the flag status of my phone and said it would take 3 business days for the Sprint back office tech support to get my phone on the network. I asked her to hold while I chatted with people who could help.

The Twigby chat CSR had no idea what I was talking about. The Tello chat CSR said they couldn't help since I was never a customer. The Ting chat CSR flipped the flag from PLBL back to SPCS.

I told the Sprint tech support to try to swap again and it worked. A really sad state of affairs for Sprint tech support could not help a current Sprint customer while a Ting chat CSR could help when I'm not a current Ting customer.

My account showed the line is eligible. Just clicked the upgrade from android app. You can do the same from web browser too.
I will try the app today, hopefully it lets me order. Have you received the phone yet? curious whether it activates on the free plan.

No significant difference between those two - both are Sprint specific ROM's. Some say it changes from one to the other in certain situations, maybe depending on what it started out as plus locking/unlocking status (locking here used in a different sense from "unbranded version"). Mine still seems to be SPR.

The unbranded version also works fine on Sprint and is neither of these. It is XAA.

so guys my friend tried portin from google voice ... and we checked his port status using wiki link: https://shop2.sprint.com/en/wlnp/check.shtml

but it says "Your number transfer has been cancelled."

anybody knows what happened.. Why was it cancelled?
was it because google voice is now not eligible to port for byod 1 year free line?
please guide someone. I am not in sync with this thread from 3-4 months so asking for help.

edit:
when we check eligibility from same page then it says eligible no and in description shows "Number transfer to Sprint currently in progress."
what is this? which status is correct, one on "check status" page or other on "check eligibility" page of above link

You need to call Sprint's Porting Dept to check - they do not mind at all.

Any idea why my verizon primary line with a iphone 6s says ineligible but my mom's 5s on the same account says it's eligible?

Only thing I can think of is I initially got this number from sprint 15 years ago but ported to verizon for last 8 years. Could that be the cause?

I know Sprint is really after Verizon customers.
Does Sprint allow you to port a number from Verizon pre-paid?
If so, I'd like to port my # from Metro PCS to VZ pre-paid for 1 month, buy a Moto E4 or G4 on ebay, then port to Sprint.
Does this plan sound like it'll work?
Thanks --

For everyone who has had trouble with the Sprint online system not accepting their credit card and getting error message "Your purchase attempt has been declined. Please try a different payment method to complete your purchase."

You can open a chat and ask to be transferred to the manual entry order specialists. They can push the payment through, as long as you did not have more than 3 unsuccessful attempts within the last 24 hours.
