Guess they are finally valuing their service quality at zero dollars!! Having unfortunate experience of being a sprint customer, I wholeheartedly concur with the valuation of their service.

Hi! I have ten specific questions that only pertain to my individual circumstances. I epitomize laziness and my sense of entitlement is impervious to reason. Therefore it is the responsibility of anyone and everyone who reads this to find the answers to my questions.

if I port out is the account considered closed or do I have to call in?
It is closed automatically but I would call Account Services anyway to be sure in case there was still some forgotten transaction pending.

I did.

I was happy to hear from the automated response "Thank you for calling Sprint about your closed account."

No I would call one of the general Sprint numbers and navigate to Account Services.
I had a direct number but I have lost it.

I have a brand new unlocked S9+ purchased directly from Samsung. I haven't activated it with any service yet as I'm still using my S5 on a Sprint SERO account. I plan on porting my Sprint number to Google Voice, which should close my existing service with them. From here, what would someone suggest that I do in order to get in on this deal? Activate the S9+ with a pay-as-you go service, and then apply for the Sprint BYOD deal? Will I get denied having already been a Sprint customer?

Yes you would have to wait 45 days (if the offer is even still going then which it may not be) or you can use a different SSN (spouse etc.) right away.

An unbranded S9+ will not have Visual Voicemail or LTE Calling Beta except via workarounds.

Thank you for your help. I'll have the new account setup under my parents' name. I'm assuming I can switch ownership back to my name at some point? What service would you recommend temporality activating the S9+ with?

Before signing up and porting my number to Sprint, I am wondering if VoLTE is supported on Sprint. I believe it is not but wanted to confirm with anyone who is on Sprint currently. If we cannot browse or review maps while on the call, that would be an issue.

It will be fully supported later this year in supported phones.
For now, LTE Calling Beta is available on Sprint-branded S8 and S9 and some other higher-end phones, and it supports what you want. It works fine for a lot of people, including me, but might have occasional voice quality issues in weak signal areas until later this year.

(iPhone VoLTE support is not there except on some models unannounced).

Of course there is also Wifi Calling where you have wifi, in supported phones.

I doubt you can switch the account holder officially especially after the plan closes to new customers.
Others know better than I do about places to port in from.

You do not need to actually activate the S9+ on another carrier (but you can if that is simplest) , just port in a number from such a carrier. Others can comment on the best choice or read recent posts or read the wiki.

Please see my note that you will not have some features on an unbranded phone without workarounds.

Thank You. Until this is fully supported, it's a NO for me. I have Pixel 2 XL, iPhone and Moto g5 Plus. Not sure if LTE Calling Beta works on these phones.
