Guess they are finally valuing their service quality at zero dollars!! Having unfortunate experience of being a sprint customer, I wholeheartedly concur with the valuation of their service.

Hi! I have ten specific questions that only pertain to my individual circumstances. I epitomize laziness and my sense of entitlement is impervious to reason. Therefore it is the responsibility of anyone and everyone who reads this to find the answers to my questions.

Basically yes but phones that have been on Sprint MVNO's will be rejected at first with a misleading error citing "money owed to Sprint". Search on LiterallyUnlimited in this thread for how to get around this. Also phones originally sold for Boost, Virgin or Sprint Prepaid etc. cannot be activated at all on PostPaid, even if they have since worked on Sprint mvno's.
Repd...really appreciate it. I messaged LiterallyUnlimited a couple months ago when I was thinking about doing this and he said he wasn't doing it except for Ting customers. Guess I'll try again, but that would be a bummer...

I believe he is doing it again because the other MVNO's (other than Ting and Google Fi) have usually refused to live up to their reesponsibilities to do it. I would contact him on Reddit.

I chatted with 2 sprint reps asking for an extension and was politely told 'No'. A few days ago someone told me my free plan ends 6/30/18 whereas today they said 7/31/18. How can I verify it on mysprint? I do not want to risk being charged 60+40+30+30 for my 4 lines in July.

Also for those who managed to get it extended how many times have you tried before finding a rep willing to do it?

If I need to port out/back in I will use another SS#. What is the best carrier to port out to: AT&T prepaid, T-Mobile prepaid, or Ting GSM (is it safe, not a Sprint MVNO of course).

They have no ability to extend it. Nobody has got that.

You have to port out and in to a new plan under another SSN.

On your dashboard, select Manage Plan / See details to see the last savings date.

The Telesales reps. have never understood the plan well enough to quote the last day of savings accurately. Their job is just to Sell. They just guess at the answers to all questions.

If you want an accurate answer over the phone you need to ask for the Account Services department (or "Cancellations/Retentions" for short). By the way they are the ones who would give an extension if anyone could but they will not give one either in this case.

Many people use TMobile Prepaid - but see recent posts or the wiki for all the details. Some like AT&T MVNO's too including H2O but they have some holds/limitations so be sure to overlap the two plans if you use H2O.

Timeline in getting my son's essential PH-1 re-unlocked.

4/26 Thu. 2PM (PST) Signed up BYOD with a previously unlocked Essential PH-1 which got re-locked.

4/27 Fri. 4PM Called 888-211-4727.
Select 1, Select option 5, Select option 5 again, Select option 2.
Talked to the customer service rep about what happened. She checked the history of the phone and said she would submit the request to re-unlock the Essential. Did not talk to the Unlock Dept., only the rep. She said it would take 24-48 hours.

5/1 Tue. 4PM The essential got re-unlocked.
A few questions about your Essential phone:

You said above that you have: "a previously unlocked Essential PH-1 which got re-locked."

Now,
1. was this phone originally purchased unlocked, either from Sprint, Amazon, other, etc., and this is the FIRST time you brought it to Sprint?
OR
2. was this phone originally purchased unlocked, either from Sprint, Amazon, other, etc., you previously brought it to Sprint and it got locked and after the 50 days you requested the unlock and it was unlocked by Sprint, and then you took it out of Sprint and this is the SECOND time you bring it to Sprint?
OR
3. was it purchased locked from Sprint, then you subscribed to Sprint and you waited the 50 days and then you made an unlock request and Sprint unlocked it and then you took it out of Sprint and this is the SECOND time you bring it to Sprint?

You also state that it got re-locked. How can you tell? Was it from the phone's UICC lock menu or you tried non-Sprint sims that didn't work, or both??

My case is the same as #2 above:
I have the same phone, it was purchased UNLOCKED from a Sprint Store several months ago, it stayed unlocked until I brought it to Sprint soon after I purchased it, then it got LOCKED, and it stayed locked for the required 50 days, and it was UNLOCKED again by Sprint after I requested it.
It stayed unlocked for several more months that it was with Sprint, the UICC menu showed unlocked and foreign sims could be used, and it also stayed unlocked after I took it out of Sprint to T-Mobile for a few weeks, BUT now when I brought it back to Sprint the UICC menu shows that it is locked to the current provider, Sprint.

NOW, the strange thing is that even though the UICC menu shows it locked, when I take out the Sprint sim and insert an active OVEREAS GSM sim it accepts it just as if the phone is unlocked and it connects to the T-Mobile network, and I can make/receive calls.
I haven't tried an ACTIVE domestic sim, T-Mo/AT&T/etc.
I hope the same will hold true with an active domestic sim.
I've tried inactive AT&T and T-Mo sims as well as a Freedompop AT&T sim but without the FP app, and they connect to their respective networks and when a tel # is dialed the standard AT&T or T-Mo recording comes on stating that the call can not go thru and the line is not active. So it seems that it'll work with a fully active domestic sim.

I called the Sprint unlock dept. and also tech support and was told multiple times that the phone shows as unlocked in Sprint's systems and that there is nothing they can do to further unlock the phone or make the UICC menu show the phone as unlocked like it was before. They were also at a loss as to why the UICC menu shows a locked phone when their systems show an unlocked phone.

So it may be possible that once the phone is unlocked by Sprint it stays unlocked even after it is taken out of and back to Sprint, but when it's taken back to Sprint the UICC menu flag gets reset to locked erroneously and it shows as locked but the phone is really unlocked.

I never tried the XDA forums unlock hack.

If my case is typical then people who got all these Essential Phones have nothing to fear by bringing this phone in and out of Sprint if it's originally unlocked by Sprint after the 50 day holding period. The phone will stay unlocked even though the UICC menu shows it as locked erroneously.
It's highly unlikely that my phone is in any way "special".

If there are similar experiences out there please contribute.

My situation is Scenario 3.

All five of our Essential phones were purchased directly from Sprint online and received by mail. They were all locked to Sprint when received.

The one Essential, in the current discussion, was activated last year. After more than 50 days, I got it unlocked by Sprint with UICC Unlock showing unlocked and successful testing with another carrier's SIM. Some time later, It was taken off Sprint when it was replaced by an iPhone.

On 4/26 when one of my sons opened his own BYOD account, I gave him this unlocked Essential which was re-activated on my son's new BYOD account. It got re-locked with UICC Unlock showing locked. We could not make calls with other carriers' SIM's, either.

On 4/27 I called Sprint to make a request to re-unlock the Essential. After I told her what happened, the rep (Account Service/Retention) investigated the history of the phone and said she would submit the re-unlock request. I did not have to talk to the Unlock Dept. at all.

On 5/1, the phone was unlocked. The UICC Unlock currently shows "unlocked" and I can make calls with other carriers' SIMs.

I do not know if my situation helps you clarify your situation. That is what happened to one of our Essential phones.

You can actually call the credit department directly (may still be 1-800-639-6116) and try again right away according to posts. Ask for a supervisor if they say no. They will ask questions directly off your credit report so it will be easier to pass.
Thanks for your help! I was able to call that number and get a supervisor to approve a second round of questions. They then asked me to go to the store for ID verification. That was a total nightmare. 45 minutes waiting for my turn in line and then 30 minutes for the guy to verify me over the phone and open a new account, but the people there were super nice, just a ton of people at the store. Then called and was able to order a sim card.

FYI, for anyone curious, I ordered a used LG V20 from ebay (Sprint branded, clean ESN) and it was eligible for the promo. Not sure which phones work and which don't, but that one worked as of yesterday. I used a ebay coupon so it was relatively cheap ($130).

Good to know about the low-cost Essential and I am glad to hear you got in!

I just ordered rhe tmobile sim from Amazon with one day shipping.. Are there any activation charges and to load any amount? As i just came out from t mobile store and they say they can't just give me the sim only but i have to load/recharge with $50
If you call to setup you can port in and out without funding. You must setup and remember pin during call. The pin will be needed for port out.
You may also sign up online using activation code and setup pin(I believe you can but was over a year ago so not positive). You should also be able to port in and out without funding. When I did online I was only using to port out but the number should be available(but inactive) to port out for 30 days.
Best case $0 for us cheap bastards. Worst case in both situations(call or online) is $10

I have been with BYOD plan since Jan and using my iPhone 6. Does anyone know if it will work with iPhone X unlocked version if I buy it off from Apple store and swap the sim out of my existing Sprint account?
