Guess they are finally valuing their service quality at zero dollars!! Having unfortunate experience of being a sprint customer, I wholeheartedly concur with the valuation of their service.

Hi! I have ten specific questions that only pertain to my individual circumstances. I epitomize laziness and my sense of entitlement is impervious to reason. Therefore it is the responsibility of anyone and everyone who reads this to find the answers to my questions.

Yes it should be fine.

The number you port in does not need to have any association to the phone.

If you need a number to port in (you have to supply one) you can get one on Ebay by searching on "TMobile number for port" for about $5. Portmaster.. is a good seller.
Thanks for your quick reply. I got a T-mobile SIM card from Apple store. So my first step should be to sign up with T-mobile to get a phone number? Then port in to Sprint? Correct?

And, say, if later I got a newer device to replace the iPhone 5s, can I do that and still keep the Sprint free plan and the same phone number?

You can do it the way you mention which is a little more complicated or use the shortcut way I mentioned which does not need the TMobile sim card but costs $5.

Yes you can swap phones to another you supply that you own outright at any time (but you cannot buy one for the purpose from Sprint for 120 days).

I just signed up on a dummy line to get in before the promo deadline. If there is a phone already active on another Sprint plan, do I port out that line and then just manually add the IMEI into the new dummy line on Sprint's online portal to use it?

To add on to comintel's feedback, you don't need to put any money on the T-Mobile SIM. I just grabbed a bunch of T-Mobile and Sprint SIMs from the Apple store then called T-Mobile to get a prepaid phone, setup a PIN, but did not load any money. I just successfully signed up for the promotion again with the unloaded T-Mobile line.

Basically yes but not exactly that way.

After getting it off the other account by port-out or swap, next on your dashboard in your newer online account, select Activate in the context menu for the dummy line and specify the IMEI and ICCID of the new phone. It will connect you to tech. support to complete the swap.

Or you can just do it via chat alone but I prefer to preorganize it as I outlined.

I thought virgin (phones from Sprint mvno) wouldn't work. Or is that just for phones activated on virgin and not just sold by them?

Virgin is actually a brand of Sprint rather than a Sprint MVNO.

Still, many Virgin phones would not activate if sold originally at a prepaid discount, you are right. Moreover, having been on RingPlus would also normally be a problem.

However there are a few exceptions. The poster said it clears the checker which is definitive so I have to assume it falls among the exceptions. I have seen some Virgin phones, some iPhones in particular, that do go through and activate fine.

A Virgin phone on Virgin for a few years, after Virgin account was closed could NOT be used on Sprint postpaid and LiterallyUnlimited could not flip the MVNO flag.
Boost phones are probably in the same situation with some exceptions... maybe.

Also see Comintel's post right above here on Virgin phones.

Agreed - neither of these phones is going to qualify. It has been well known that the Verizon E4 from that offer does not qualify. The Boost phone is not going to qualify either because it is prepaid model.

Others will know better BUT I personally think it is a very undesirable phone for Sprint even if it (barely) qualifies because it lacks band 41 which is now Sprint's main high-speed band. This means, for example, that it would not work at all with Magic Box which is a life-saver in marginal signal areas.

One must be very careful with iPhones since depending on the Model # they can be compatible with GSM providers only, like AT&T/T-Mobile/etc., and NOT with Sprint.

The iPhone in your link seems to be a GSM only phone that will NOT be compatible with Sprint's CDMA system, or Verizon's for that matter.

Every iPhone has a Model # on the back. Google that #, check its specs and make sure that it's CDMA compatible or it will not work with Sprint.

Please check the Wiki here. The iPhone 5S is listed only as:
Apple iPhone 5S (Verizon only).
Similarly listed are some other iPhones.

Since time is running out on this Free 1 Year BYOD plan one can not afford any complications now if he/she wants to get on it.
In this case the Motorola E4 described here may be the best alternative:

https://slickdeals.net/forums/showpost.php?p=115247287&postcount=18051

Best Buy may have refurbished phones of this particular E4 for less $$.
Remember, it MUST be UNLOCKED and UNACTIVATED.
