Guess they are finally valuing their service quality at zero dollars!! Having unfortunate experience of being a sprint customer, I wholeheartedly concur with the valuation of their service.

Hi! I have ten specific questions that only pertain to my individual circumstances. I epitomize laziness and my sense of entitlement is impervious to reason. Therefore it is the responsibility of anyone and everyone who reads this to find the answers to my questions.

I got the boost moto g6 play activated on the sprint line but I'm getting horrible data rates. I've tried upgrading the prl and profile but it still is very bad. Basically download seems okay but it is having trouble connecting to upload data. My land-line is temporarily down or I'd troubleshoot with sprint. I switched back to my old phone which gets good data speeds. Calls and texts work fine. Very odd. I assume everyone else with the boost g6 play are getting decent data speeds as no one else has reported problems.
With sprint in many different cities it is normal to have poor data speeds especially if you are comparing to Verizon and ATT. That said I'm surprised this deal is still going strong I thought it ended a few months ago lol.

Yes let's ask Richard. Are you comparing the G6 Play to another phone on Sprint or to another phone on another carrier?

Both phones on sprint. Great data speeds with my galaxy s5. With the moto g6 play, the download speed is great but upload speed so bad that it isn't usable. I'm not sure it is worth spending the time with tech support and whether that'll cause trouble with it being a boost phone.

I do really like the phone, especially the monster battery.

Have you checked if they both choose the same bands? Sometimes phones make a poor choice of the "best" band to use. The Moto might be choosing based on different (ill-advised) criteria.

SignalCheck will show the band and signal strength.

Does signalcheck lite give enough information? I have to swap phones again to check. If the g6 play is choosing bad bands, is that fixable?

Don't bother doing it now.

But if it is choosing bands unwisely, then that would at least be potentially fixable by Motorola via an OTA update. I would not hold my breath though - it might take months. It is just that that would indicate that a long-term fix is at least possible.

For example, maybe it is choosing band 41 to maximize potential download speed when the signal on that band is too weak to be robust. As a matter of fact I have seen older Moto's tend to do that.

Maybe the S5 is more conservative and is going with band 26 to be sure it can hang onto the signal.

This kind of thing happens all the time in phone engineering.

If the phone just has poor RF performance in general, though, that would never be fixable.

Personally I find that Samsung phones are better than Moto phones in RF performance and would not buy another Moto. I have found the Moto's are fickle with band selection. I do not think they do enough field testing. They are fine in strong-signal areas.

In a few phones (e.g. my Samsung S8) it is possible to force the band. I do not know abut Moto's.

Thanks. Checked my local Wal-Mart and they have two in stock. I have no interest in purchasing one, but interesting to know they are available locally.
They are also in stock some stores in OC, CA. I'm not buying either since I'm happy with the Play.

Very happy with performance with mine so far. It's good as long as I'm on LTE. Getting 30 down and 15 up.

Got the $3 digital TMobile Sim from eBay, ported out to TMobile prepaid online, ported back in to sprint. Total time spent is around an hour. Good for another year. Thanks for the suggestion.

I'm not surprised deal is still on, it's a cuthroat biz to be in, have to compete. Have to keep Sprint relevant, even FP is juicing things up with rollover data.

$3 charge on TMobile in addition to the $3 Sim. Register directly online. During check out, you get to select your own pin. Once you check out, they will give you an account number on your receipt.

Yes, it took roughly 48 hours. I'm not sure about unlocking the LG but it may ask for the unlock code if you put a gsm sim card in it.
