You should read more on this thread. Many people are on their 2nd year free plan now including me.

Go with the 45 method but you risk plan being unavailable.

Did anyone tried credit union rewards for new sprint line activation With this offer ?
It is explicitly denied by name in the Sprint offer and has been refused to almost everyone (as lou2004 notes "You only get it if your lines were open last year in June".)

Correct. If you can open under a spouse or relative's SSN, of course, you do not have to wait the 45 days.

There are currently just exactly 45 days before one arguably plausible cut-off date of Sept 30 so bear in mind the timing arithmetic in deciding when to do it.

Thanks a lot for the information. I was a Sprint customer long time back and now my phone and sim are tied to 1 of my friend's account. So he can cancel the account on 28th sept and port out to H2O and then I can get 1-year free Sprint account on my SSN.

Or I can do that right away as well? Like porting out to H2O and get Sprint 1 year free plan again on my SSN.

You can do it right away on your SSN and I would suggest that since it is lowest risk in case Sprint were to unexpectedly cut off the offer at any time. Your SSN has been away from Sprint for (much) over 45 days. It does not matter that your phone is on Sprint on another SSN as long as you port it out and in. He does not need to cancel his account right away. Later he probably should to free up his SSN for future offers that may come along suddenly.

If your sim worked with your phone on Sprint before, you should be fine.

As noted by Rolanda, always use the same sim for the same phone.

You must CALL (not sign up online) to avoid being forced to buy a new sim by the inflexible online signup process.

The website you are directed to in order to buy the sim cards also says on it that you can also get sim cards at a Sprint store. When I went to a franchise store, they wanted to charge $15 for them, but said a corporate store MIGHT give them to me for free. At a Sprint corporate store, I explained that I wanted to take advantage of the free year. They asked what phones I needed sims for and they gave them to me for free.
