Guess they are finally valuing their service quality at zero dollars!! Having unfortunate experience of being a sprint customer, I wholeheartedly concur with the valuation of their service.

Hi! I have ten specific questions that only pertain to my individual circumstances. I epitomize laziness and my sense of entitlement is impervious to reason. Therefore it is the responsibility of anyone and everyone who reads this to find the answers to my questions.

I removed the insurance easily through sprint mobile app. Not the browser but install the app on iOS. Also, I activated my first line online (instead of going through reciting the details and questions on phone) and there will be an activation fee of $30 on the bill

But promised to be credited back within 2 or 3 billing cycles, right?

Using phone signups, which I always do, I have never seen an activation fee appear at all, even temporarily, and I have done 8 or 9 of them.

Is it the case that these (temporary) activation fees always show up on online sign-ups, but usually not for phoned-in sign-ups?

What phone make and exact model and original carrier was it so that we have some context?
Well, I already said I switched from Sprint to TM. The Sprint phones were Galaxy Grand Primes, the TMs a J7 & J3. The low end of the Galaxy line but more than good enough for our needs. It's not the phones, though, it's the service. Sprint just doesn't have enough towers, and good enough equipment at the towers it does have, nor the capital to increase and improve either, to provide good service across a given region. That's why TM is acquiring it, because it can't survive much longer on its own. It's the Sears of cellular carriers. I assume TM wants it for what equipment and towers it does have, but especially for its customers and licenses. Properly capitalized, it'll probably become the #1 carrier.

I moved back to Sprint BYOD from Red Pocket (GSMA) a couple weeks ago. Sprint had not gotten a response from RP after the port request for 3-4 hours, so I had to call RP and ask them to release the number. Then the port went through in 5-10 minutes.

Today I'm planning to add another line to my Sprint account. That line is also on Red Pocket (CDMA-Verizon). Would it be prudent to call RP and ask them to release the number before I call Sprint and have them send the porting request? Or would it be better to contact RP after I call Sprint and they send the initial request?

AFAIK releasing the number won't terminate the line or cancel the existing service, just "unlock" the door so that Sprint can retrieve the number without needing to wait for a response from RP, or am I mistaken ?
Dont know about RP, but with typical carriers, service is canceled once the number is taken away from them.

That I definitely understand, but I guess my question is does "releasing" the number actually cancel the service? Or does it just make the number available for porting?

Thinking more about this, it's probably safer to not call RP before the port request is sent. No point in over-complicating things.

I would never contact the carrier I'm porting from beforehand. You run the risk of them cancelling the line before it gets ported, and then you're screwed.

Good luck. Just left Sprint for TM after 20 years with them. Perhaps it's my phone and area, but service has been horrible the past year or so. Dropped calls, calls not received, data constantly disconnects after a few minutes forcing a restart, slow data that's rarely LTE. Couldn't take it anymore so made the switch. So far very happy with new phones/service. Great LTE coverage and speeds.

Sounds like a no obligation promo so nothing to lose, but don't except much. You'll all be part of TM in a year or two anyway.
sounds like your phone has a broken antenna.

I did my activation and port-in over phone. The Sprint rep connected me to Cricket my earlier service provided and had me reconfirm account and pin over call. that's it. in less than 10min. I was all set.

Yeah I definitely don't want that to happen. I wondered if I could just give RP a heads up to expedite the process but understand that's too risky and unnecessary.

If the Sprint rep I talk to contacts RP and has me confirm the port request information over a call, that would be great as it'd potentially save quite a bit of time. Smilie

There's nothing wrong with asking your current carrier the questions you're asking here.

Porting isn't some nefarious activity you have to be careful about.

Yes, I have a Nexus 6 (Verizon) on this free plan.
You can port your GV or buy a T-mo number from ebay for $4

Don't know what may happen with the merge but Sprint is charging me about $3 here in Los Angeles for my line.

I hope the merge will result in better service because my data only works about 50% of the time right now. It actually makes more sense to me to pay $30 to join a friend's T-Mobile plan.
