Guess they are finally valuing their service quality at zero dollars!! Having unfortunate experience of being a sprint customer, I wholeheartedly concur with the valuation of their service.

Hi! I have ten specific questions that only pertain to my individual circumstances. I epitomize laziness and my sense of entitlement is impervious to reason. Therefore it is the responsibility of anyone and everyone who reads this to find the answers to my questions.

Sprint retail support staff of all types have demonstrated in the past that they have no understanding of this type of rom-level issue so you can save time and confusion by not calling them.

Try getting a Sprint sim and inserting it and see of the phone switches to Sprint logo etc. (give it a couple of minutes). I have done this on my S8 frequently to switch carriers. Until you have brand switching, or if the phone is locked, it will just say "invalid sim".

However I cannot recall for sure if that works even before signing up with Sprint. I think it would though. Then just insert the tmo sim back in to switch back.

Also you can apply updates using Samsung Smart Switch from a PC independent of carrier.

I think you are worrying needlessly though. What you are worrying about has never been a problem. In my opinion they would not have enabled the imei's until Samsung gave then the go-ahead that the original target date had already been bettered ahead of schedule. That is what has been the case in the past with S8, then Note 8, etc. That is what everybody else in the past had gone by with no problem. In other words, it is ready now in my opinion.
So, I powered down the phone, put in the correct Sprint sim, and powered back up. It started with the usual T-Mobile splash screen. I checked the APN settings. My T-Mobile one was gone and there were 2 new Sprint ones that took it's place. None of them were selected. I saw that I had 4 bars of service. Tried making a call (of course I am not on Sprint yet) and it said "Not registered on network." Where it usually displays "Mintsim" on the bottom of the home screen, nothing is there. I waited about 10 minutes then turned off the phone and the usual T-Mobile powering down screen was displayed. Nothing changed when I powered it back on.

I checked for updates OTA just before the Sprint sim, and again while the Sprint sim was installed and there were none. The software update screen said that the security patch level was 10/01/18 and that I installed it on 10/27/18.

I thought the 4 bars of service was telling but I don't really know anything. What do you think? Does any of this suggest that my phone has brand switching yet?

Yes you are fine and good to go!

It would never show anything related to Sprint unless it had accepted the sim. It would say "Invalid sim."

I think full rebranding does not take place until the IMEI is authorized.

If you want you can run LTE Discovery (or better yet paid SignalCheckPro) while you are in that state and it will probably show what bands you are connected to (although ironically it may be TMO bands in some cases because of the new widespread roaming Sprint uses on TMobile).

Sprint is CDMI and most other ones GSM. So if I get a GSM phone from other carriers and bring it to Sprint all that's needed to change over is taking out those other carrier's SIM card (GSM) and putting in a Sprint SIM card (CDMI). Correct?

Sweet! I will probably call in tomorrow and get switched over to Sprint. Kinda unhappy with the prioritization during congested hours on Mint. Also miss a few texts here and there. Looking forward to unlimited data!

No. You'll need to be sure the phone is compatible with Sprint (CDMA and GSM networks are different, but some phones work on both) and you'll need the correct Sprint sim card for that particular phone. So basically you'll need 1) A Sprint compatible phone, 2) a Sprint sim card for that particular phone, 3) a phone number to port in from a non-Sprint carrier.

Only in those (limited) cases where the particular phone supports Sprint CDMA.

For example, any iPhone 6S, or iPhone XS or XR, supports Sprint, but many other GSM phones do not.

Also, it is more complicated than just CDMA versus GSM. Sprint requires voice band BC10, for example, which is not in most generic CDMA phones.

And it has to be the correct Sprint sim.

(See Rolanda's post too for some more details - our two posts were at the same time).

So that list of phones listed supports both GSM and Sprint's CDMA? Thanks for the detailed response.

Yes. The Sprint version of the iPhone 7 Plus will be most compatible. The T-Mobile and AT&T versions will not work at all on Sprint and the Verizon version MAY be compatible if it is unlocked.

Yes, at least in respect of all the GSM phones that are listed (and that accounts for most of them).

Actually all recent phones, including even Sprint and Verizon models, tend to have GSM support as well but it might have to be unlocked.

The terms GSM and CDMA are becoming less informative because everything is moving now to LTE on all carriers.

It says "Sprint network" not "Sprint".

So it might only work on Sprint mvno's until you get that flipped.

Ideally ask if they can give you an IMEI and check it on Sprint, not on Swappa or an mvno.

The Sprint model will be good later on GSM as well because Sprint will unlock it for you after 50 days *IF* they accept it at all in the first place.

However be aware only iPhone 8 and up will have VoLTE on Sprint.

They are only charged on online activations (not phone-ins) and are credited back in 2 to 3 billing cycles in that case, and you can use up the credit over time.

Of course the Wiki has never recommended online activations.

Yes. Have the seller do an IMEI check on the Sprint website first if they are not willing to give out the IMEI to you. If it is compatible, have them send you a screenshot for verification. This is something I have done for a long time. If the seller does not want to do it, there are plety of sellers out there who will.

When I ported to T-Mobile without a physical sim, I asked for an email to confirm the port. I did this when porting with an agent on the phone.
Did the agent want you to deposit $10? The tmo website only charges $3.
