Guess they are finally valuing their service quality at zero dollars!! Having unfortunate experience of being a sprint customer, I wholeheartedly concur with the valuation of their service.

Hi! I have ten specific questions that only pertain to my individual circumstances. I epitomize laziness and my sense of entitlement is impervious to reason. Therefore it is the responsibility of anyone and everyone who reads this to find the answers to my questions.

Just get the insurance and you can remove it from online account in like 30 secs, never understand why people keep arguing.
Probably because even when you remove it moments later they still charge you at the end of the cycle for the full amount of the insurance. Then you have to call and argue with them to credit you back the amount which is aggravating since you never asked for it in the first place.

Just signed up for a 2nd year on this plan. You can't beat free ($3/mo is free in all practical sense).

I did have quite a bit of trouble signing up for the 2nd year though. I wanted to share my experience with everyone in case they got stuck.

I have an unlocked iPhone SE 64GB I purchased from Apple several years ago. After my first year ended, I went to total wireless for 2 months. Came back to Sprint but they kept telling me, based on my IMEI, that my phone was incompatible with their network. Which of course was complete BS because I was with them for a year prior. After having to talk to multiple different CS reps, a rep finally told me that they had to 're-SKU' my phone and they had to submit some sort of 'ticket' to their technical department and that it would take 24-48 hours to resolve. (On a side note, when I would enter in my IMEI on the sprint website to check my phone, it gave me a message saying something to the effect of "you still owe Sprint on your phone and therefore can't join" or something to that effect)

After 48 hours, I called them again, and it worked without any hiccup. I told the CS rep i was in a rush and did not have time and it literally took no more than 10 minutes. I double checked on the sprint website and now when i searched my IMEI and phone number it gave me a green checkmark saying it was compatible.

Just curious, anyone else experience something similar to me?

P.S. As others have said, you have to reject their $15/mo insurance plan. And some of them are very aggressive and won't accept your answer until you repeat yourself multiple times. Tell them over and over and over that you're not interested and 'please don't add this on my account.'

Total Wireless is owned by América Móvil/TracFone, which is famous for putting obstacles in the way of moving phones off their service.

That should not apply to BYOD phones, but they must have accidentally(?) put a lock on your BYOD phone, or possibly set the Sprint mvno flag on. Either of these would be improper. You would have been able to see any lock by getting the GSX report on Ebay for $1.

But that is great in any case that you got it back on.

Had nothing to do with total wireless. The porting process was super easy and just like any carrier.

It was getting Sprint to fix their system and database

I recently went through removing Insurance again, and found that it is very confusing now in the online interface because you have to issue "Save" way down at the bottom of the page after you make the change or else it goes back to the old value the next day.

I unticked it, it said "Wait do you really want to do that?. ". I said "Yes" and it then showed as off and showed a zero monthly charge. But I went back accidentally a few days later and noticed that it was back to Selected again.

So I went through it again, but this time hunted around and found the obscure little Save button way down at the bottom of the page.

This time I did click Save. Shortly later I got an email confirming it had been removed. A say or two later I got an SMS saying it had been removed.

So I agree that it is too difficult for many people to get it accepted by the online system and suggest people do it by CHAT instead.

Why would the Sprint database entry for your phone have changed just by porting out? It would not have changed just by porting out the phone number. If it did change, it was done by Total Wireless/TracFone who are the next thing to crooks. Try reading up on their reputation in TracFone / Total Wireless forums. Many people have found it literally impossible to move phones off TracFone/Total and have given up because of all the obstacles they put in the way.

Sometimes it does go ok.

Dude, trust me, had nothing to do with total wireless. Never even got to the porting portion.

As soon as they put my imei number in, they said I still owed money to sprint. Which made zero sense.

Porting from total wireless was a breeze. Zero issues. Took 5 minutes max

We see that message all the time "You owe Sprint" right in the imei checker after phones have been on certain other carriers. It means the other carrier has set the ownership flag on the device IMEI in the Sprint database. It clears when the flag has been turned off. We have other ways of getting it cleared as well but technically it is the other carrier's responsibility to do so.

The Sprint checker looks at the flag for the individual device in the database.

This is most frequently seen after the device was activated on a Sprint mvno but can also occur with some other carriers too.

Just to let you know what I did:

Search item number 173247016698 on ebay. The guy will message you a sim number almost instantly. Check the sim card number here [t-mobile.com]. The first one he sent me wasn't valid, he sent me another number that worked. As someone mentioned above, you don't actually need the physical sim card to port into T-mobile. Again, as someone mentioned, after you've ported out to T-mobile, check your phone's imei number on sprint here [sprint.com]. When the sprint site says the device is eligible, call the sprint number from the wiki.

I never gave T-mobile any personal information, nor did I pay $3 to set up the line. Like the wiki said, I just told them that I would get a prepaid card once the line ported over. I think the only "cost" of porting the number is the sim card cost?

Total time spent: ~30 minutes
I am not able to find this item number specified in this quoted post.... Instead i found following two items:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/T-Mobile...3324067412
https://www.ebay.com/itm/T-Mobile...3352547132

Can some one please confirm if either of these will work.. I want to do the following:
1. I want to port out current byod line to tmobile temporarily.
2. Then I want to port from tmobile to a new sprint byod account with new ssn.

Can i port out from sprint into tmobile today and then port in to sprint from tmobile tomorrow?
or do i need to do both in single day considering i am not going load any money in tmobile sim card.. it will be used just for port out and port in..

thanks

I bought the same listing from the first ebay link just last week, had my port into tmo within 15 minutes of buying from eBay. Sure, shouldn't be a problem doing it the next day, I think someone here previously mentioned TMo holds it for 30 days.

No balance needed. I just said I will choose the prepaid pay as you go plan and add an amount later. They'll have you setup a 6-10 digit pin. Remember to write that down, you'll need that for porting into sprint. Also your TMo account, which will be 1+area code+number.

To understand the circumstances better, what phone models are these?
Do you have roaming enabled (it is free). Not having roaming on can cause this problem. It is required to be left in now in some cases because of recent network changes that assume the new unlimited free TMO roaming is available on phones that the network knows would have those bands.
Do you get good bars and speeds when you do have service?
Does it happen at other locations?
I got a galaxy s8 plus. A galaxy s7 edge and I did change roaming and same problem. I do have good signal and it happens everywhere.

In that case I think is probably a routing problem in your area. I believe it is a known problem affecting a few phones in a few areas that have a recent update on. I think it is trying to switch bands and failing or something like that. If you cannot get anywhere with Sprint support or here then try posting on reddit as some people have reported it there.
