Guess they are finally valuing their service quality at zero dollars!! Having unfortunate experience of being a sprint customer, I wholeheartedly concur with the valuation of their service.

Hi! I have ten specific questions that only pertain to my individual circumstances. I epitomize laziness and my sense of entitlement is impervious to reason. Therefore it is the responsibility of anyone and everyone who reads this to find the answers to my questions.

Looks like Walmart has the best deals on Phones this year with $300 to $400 gift card, but its difficult to get the straight scoop on fees and such. It looks like you do not walk away with the gift card so who knows how long it will take to get. Here in North GA Walmart uses a contractor call Troc in a few stores and they are not honest and very deceptive.

If your experience is different please let us know.

AFAIK, you immediately walk away with the GC upon phone Activation.

I would if it is cheaper.

But Sprint ones are usually cheapest anyway so why not buy a Sprint model? Now that we have brand switching, a Sprint model is just as good for all carriers as any other model. People do not understand this at all so you will probably find the Sprint model still at a discount. People will still pay a premium for the "unlocked version" because they do not understand that brand switching is now available.

You could even buy a locked Sprint one. Sprint will unlock it after 50 days too.

(But check IMEI in the Sprint checker).

BTW Verizon models are never locked (yet) as far as I recall (other than for payment issues etc.). edog11 please correct me if I am wrong.

Also I think many reputable Ebay sellers offering guarantees would list locked/unlocked/lien status and guarantee it.
Learned something new...I did not knew that Sprint model is just as good for all carriers as any other model. So, just to clarify, if I buy a Sprint iPhone (X/Xs) as long as it comes as eligible when checked on sprint's site (link in wiki), I can swap it to my current BYOD free plan? And then after 50-days, I can get it unlocked from Sprint (with free plan till 1/31/20, I am not going anywhere Smilie ), and then this iPhone will be as good as Verizon iPhone? I only have experience with verizon iPhones and have used them outsode US by just inserting local sim. So, verizon iPhones are like gold standard to me as far as unlocked versions come.

The Sprint and Verizon iPhones have been identical model number since iphone 6s(2015), except for iPhone SE.

At Walmart? Thats not what the rep told me, but thats the problem with contractors/trusted sellers at Walmart...................

Also, if you do some checking you will find that Walmart is charging $50 over msrp for the iPhone XR, XS and XS Max, not sure about others, as shown here:

I called the number that was on my sim order email direction
That was the reason.

Those people are only prepared to deal with sim issues. Others have had that problem too..

They are all sorts of places where you will see various other other numbers but you have to call only the number .ending in 8777 for this plan. I agree this is a problem.and is Sprint's fault.

But you did better than most who have called other numbers.

Just call the number ending in 8777 as recommended in the wiki. This will also save you paying 30 activation fee up front and having to wait to get it credited back.

Well I was referring to Samsung S9 I thought, but the same is true for the iPhone models you mentioned.

Sprint will unlock any phone for both international and U.S. use after 50 days on Sprint if you ask. Not quite as good as Verizon which has no delay, but good enough for people who can stay on Sprint for 50 days..

So, yes, on all counts.

Go by what edog11 says for more details re iPhone specifically.

It's not a mail-in rebate; you get the $400 GC immediately, upon Activation. Just like Sam's Club.

recent Sprint and Verizon iPhone's are identical hardware. Sprint just takes longer(50 days) before unlocking. IF you are going out of country before 50 days have passed, Sprint will do INTL (not domestic !) SIM unlock early.

IIRC, the newest iPhones (Xr, Xs, Xs-Max) are hardware identical across all 4 major US carriers. AT&T, Sprint, TMobile, Verizon.

Oh nice, thanks for INTL unlock info.

I think I know the answer, but still better to learn from who know more, once the phone has been unlocked by Sprint (after 50-days), it cant be re-locked again, right?

It shouldnt ... not sure what would happen in a weird situation. Like if you left Sprint for a long-time/year(s) and returned to Sprint with the same exact phone.

IF it occurred, they would easily unlock it since the IMEI had long ago done it's 50 days in prison.
