Guess they are finally valuing their service quality at zero dollars!! Having unfortunate experience of being a sprint customer, I wholeheartedly concur with the valuation of their service.

Hi! I have ten specific questions that only pertain to my individual circumstances. I epitomize laziness and my sense of entitlement is impervious to reason. Therefore it is the responsibility of anyone and everyone who reads this to find the answers to my questions.

It's a straight up discount. I'm thinking I can pay off the phone and close the line and then open a new one but I don't know how that would all play out.
You have to get the exact wording of the lease agreement.

The link you posted says "with Sprint financing"

Often part of it is "service credits" that you cannot use up on the free plan.

Also once you have a paid plan you are not a new customer so you are not eligible for the free plan anymore under that SSN for 45 days.

Thanks everyone for the help! Repped.

This morning I was able to speak with a very nice rep from Philippine and successfully ported all 4 lines over. The experience I had was distinctly different from last night, even though I called the very same number.

Per the Wiki suggested, I simply accepted the rep's "recommendation" to add the $15/month Total Equipment Protection plan to the 2 lines. Interesting that the rep didn't suggest for all 4 lines but the 2 Sprint Z2 Force phones. I will remove them later once I created an account.
Great to hear!

Got it. It seems the best option would get a friend to open a line, pay off the phone, cancel the line and move it over?

Here's another question...if I just buy the Verizon S9+ shouldn't I be able to port that over? Since it now has Samsung BYOD support as of November 9th?

(1) Even still it probably would not work because the Sprint lease agreement probably includes a service credit the value of which is used to get the end price quoted. That will be cancelled if you cancel the agreement. (Verizon deal may be ok though - see other posts).

(2) Ah you are right up to date on the technical side.

(2) Ah you are right up to date on the technical side. However you may have to activate it on Verizon to get it unlocked I believe, and they charge for that activation. Someone else was talking about doing that though. But check the exact Verizon deal terms. Best look for a thread of people doing this.
I'm kind of a Slickdeals newb. Any advice on how I could find a thread on people doing this?

People in these threads are saying you CAN pay off the Verizon DPP and move the phone to Sprint. Same for Samsung direct deals.

Hi. It's been a while since I've posted. I'm currently on this plan using a Nexus 6P. My "savings through" date is just around the corner. One of my family members has a Sprint branded S7E which he used w/ Sprint but has upgraded (it's paid off and not in use). He gave me the phone. I asked Sprint if I can have it carrier unlocked and they said "yes". I'm planning to port out and port back in. I'm not sure if the S7E is then regarded as Sprint variant or special edition (which I understand is "unlocked")? I know that it shouldn't really make a difference since the wiki states that any Sprint phone is eligible (if not in use or owed). I'm just a bit curious.

The Sprint model is never the same thing as Special Edition aka Unlocked model.

They are two different models SM-G935U or SM-G935P

You should be able to activate it, possibly after a little difficulty, but it will not be anything to do with the Special Edition aka "Unlocked model".

I am currently on this free year sprint plan that is ending soon with 5 lines and purchased 5 Tmobile electronic sim per wiki suggestion.

TMobile reps are refusing to transfer the number without selecting a plan. I have had his supervisor call me back and the supervisor was stating the same that I need to select a prepay plan.

Has anyone had a different experience? He said this changed around a month or so. Should I call a different number or during different time zone maybe?

Thanks for any help/suggestions.

Thank you. I might just use the Nexus 6P to do the porting dance then swap to compatible sim for S7E once 1YF service is re-established to avoid said difficult time

Hey guys just wanted to see if I could get some advice. My family is currently with Sprint, we have 5 lines total. 3 (possibly 4) of us are planning on buying iPhones from the Walmart $400 giftcard deal tomorrow. We'd like to be able to take advantage of the BYOD promotion. What's the easiest way to be able to get onto that plan? The best option that I've seen is to buy the new phones on Verizon (so switch our numbers over to Verizon's). Then pay off the phone then switch back to sprint. Do I need to cancel our service with sprint or does that happen automatically when we switch to Verizon? Also one of my family members live in Texas. Can he buy the phone in Texas and still activate his phone and switch with us? or do I have to buy the phone for him? If I have to buy it with the rest of our family phones can I just buy it and activate it and get a new number on that phone, then mail the phone to him and then have his current phone number switched to the new phone and dump whatever number we get when I buy the phone? Plus 1 of the lines is NOT getting a new phone. Since we have a family account; will the lines we switch cancel and just that line remain on sprint. Or will they have to start their own accounts on sprint for just their lines? Any above would be greatly appreciated.

What you want to do will work over time... but the Sprint free deal is for new activations only... and they require 45 days after porting to another carrier to close an existing Sprint account in good standing and be considered a new activation again. If your family members have their SSN #'s on file with Sprint on an existing active account... then they're probably going to have to wait 45 days after porting out to come back and take advantage of this deal.

We only used my dad's ssn when we signed up on sprint. So I'd planned on buying the phones and using my ssn to switch back to sprint. Which if I'm understanding correctly would mean we wouldn't have to wait 45 days and we could switch back immediately after I paid off the Verizon phones.

I'm just not sure how it'll work with the line that's remaining and not switching with us. And then my brother who lives in Texas, can he buy the phone himself in Texas and switch with us?
