I think I can get a better/faster answer here. Hence posting it here.

I have been a BYOD customer for 40 days or so. Have been using my unlocked iPhone 6s. No issues with the phone or service. All good.

I want to buy a new SPRINT ONLY
iPhone 8 from a friend. If I buy this phone, can I use it instead of my current iPhone 6s? AND If I keep my service for 50 days or more (which I will), would I have the right to have the iPhone 8 unlocked if I call Sprint customer service?

When I checked the IMEI number of the iPhone 8 (the one I want to buy) on the BYOD eligibility page, this is the message I received.

"Sprint service already activated
This phone has already been activated for Sprint service."
means the Ipohne 8 is still on an active Sprint line. your friend has to "de-activate" the phone from his line by either successfully cancelling his line or swapping a different phone into that line. once the phone is taken out of Sprint, ie it a few minutes, then you can check the imei# and it will show you it is eligible. if the Iphone 8 does not have any other issues (like a financial obligation etc), after 50 days you can request for unlock.

You cannot port directly from Tello because it is a Sprint mvno.
See the Wiki for the workaround.

Also any phone that was on Tello may be locked to mvno use only until the mvno flag is reset. Search recent posts on Tello for how to deal with that.
Thank you!
I will bring new phone to sprint (current Tello phone not eligible for this promo anyway)

Why not have your friend ask for the phone to be unlocked? Much faster. After that, he needs to swap that phone for another in his account. He can then sell you the phone and you can swap phones via chat. It doesn't have to show as eligible in the BYOD 1yf page since you're just swapping phones.

All of this assuming the phone is completely paid off and you have the correct sim (you can use your friend's sim if he doesn't need it anymore.

I went through a similar situation recently.

Has anybody else noticed declining service? On my daily commute I now experience long patches of no (data, at least, dont try phone during those times) service at all. This is new, while the network was never amazing, it usually at least worked in the city...

I've wondered if the impending T-Mobile merger has just caused Sprint to give up even trying anymore, or something...

It's gotten so bad I wonder if my APN settings are incorrect (although I believe they autoset initially so they should be fine). I've just been to lazy to google them up.

Given that and the inability to easily switch phones and inability to use GSM phones walling me off from many phones, and being a phone nerd, has combined had me almost counting the days til I can get back on Cricket in March (when my free year ends), or even lightly considering dropping Sprint before the free year is up.

All that said another Q, initially I noticed something in the TOS that if you used over 100MB of roaming data they could terminate your contract. Figuring they'd use any excuse to terminate freebie customers. and knowing 100mb of data can be used in a blink, I've simply turned off roaming since I've been on the free sprint. Which of course hurts my service all those times it wants to roam and could be some of the reason for the poor network performance. Was I correct to turn roaming off or was I overly cautious and cost myself a better experience?

Now I appreciate customer service of Verizon and AT&T, its 1000 times better than sprint. Atleast they dont hang up on you.

Has anyone been successful in swapping devices on this plan before 4 months ? I was told by a rep that I would need to wait at least 4 months before making any changes to the device on this plan.
I swapped a phone that I bought outright from Samsung less than 4 months in. Activated through online chat.

I signed up a phone for this offer, but for the number to port provided a temporary google number that I don't really need to port (just temporary solution, don't care if its lost).
I didn't unlock this google number, so its unlikely they will be able to port it.

Will Sprint still issue me SIM if the google number not unlocked?
Received order confirmation email.
I will port my primary number later.

Yes, I was able to swap to a new iPhone XR today 2 months into the promotion. When I tried to confirm the IMEI of the new unlocked phone on the sprint website before opening the box at the Apple store, it said that that the phone is not eligible for the offer. I called Sprint on the number listed in the wiki for a phone swap and they confirmed that the new IMEI is eligible after which I purchased the phone. Then I activated the new phone calling Sprint again.

again.

confused.

phones REQUIRED to be used as port in phones

are not NECESSARY

the same as phones that can be used ONCE YOU HAVE ALREADY PORTED IN

apparently,
the iphone u mentioned cannot be used to port in
but once ported, it can be used

keep in mind, the offer, (started ~12+ months ago) is for new customers who, as such probably have a non sprint phone

What I just read online says you pay nothing until 9/30/19. Then, $60 per month. So, cancel on 9/30/19??

Unless you are quoting from your own particular plan, that 9/30/2019 date is just an example at the time that post was made a long time ago. It really means whatever date is a year plus from the day you sign up. See wiki.

If you quoting from your own particular plan, yes port out by then as Rolanda notes.
