The error just means it was on a Sprint mvno earlier and the mvno flag needs to be flipped.

In my opinion, the seller is not telling you the truth or may have bought it from someone else himself.

But as you say there are probably easier alternatives.

I would not argue that this whole Sprint mvno flag situation is a huge pain. Sprint lives in a bubble where it believes its MVNO's are going to to things most of them refuse to do.

But as we see many Verizon mvno's have issues with many Android phones too - in some cases arguably worse because there is no resolution there at all. Total is just exempt from some of them because it is TracFone with huge clout.
Thanks. I was just thinking unlocked phones should be able to go anywhere but finding out it's not true. Even if you do your homework and find your phone should be compatible and even if you ask the RP people and they say it should, doesn't necessarily mean phone will work. It's a lot of pain to buy the plan, port the number and then be without a phone for 5 days only to find out your phone does not work. So you get refund, go find you another place to go. It's just a pain to try different service providers and go thru all the trouble and then get disappointed in the end.

But I refuse to go post paid and pay crazy prices so I will sufer thru it.

Guy that sold me the phone swears he never had it on Sprint. He purchased from BestBuy and was on Cricket, and couple others in the 4 months he owned it. then he sold it.

thanks for your help.

Somehow my credit was not approved. Can I add my number to my friends account who is using this same plan?
Sure he can add it for you if he is willing to take responsibility.

Thanks....thanks for your help.
haven't really followed your story....but as a last resort...

consider calling S & insisting on speaking with "Level 2 Support"
{sometimes referred to "advanced tech support"}

they may be able to help ..

I switched over a couple days ago from Verizon. Easy transition. I got my SIM card for free from Apple and the sprint store(Samsung phone). Brought over 2 lines. They did push the $15 phone protection. I accepted but you can take off when you set up your Sprint account. Service is okay, not as great as Verizon but it's free and works. Call with the 866 number above took about 30-40 mins for the whole process. The credit part took extra because they had to verify. Then moved on to setting up phones and autopay via phone (provided debit card). It was really seamless, customer service rep was very nice and patient with me. Deal ends in 2020.

Just setup the account. Manage Devices link next to phone number from dashboard - change services - current services. Surprisingly, Sprint Complete wasn't added. It's listed under "services you can add"
Thanks. I think it is under add bcoz you removed it before?

For Sprint phones, the TEP cost is $15 and includes cracked screen repair for $29. For non-sprint phone, like Moto G4, the cost is $9 and doesn't include cracked screen protection. Interesting.

I initiated a cancellation with google fi online and selected the option to port to another service provider. It automatically showed the account and pin number. I even chatted with google fi support about switching the ownership flag but was told that I had to do the port with Sprint first.
I called Sprint to add another line to my free BYOD account and then was told that the phone is still showing that it is active with google fi.
Do I need to cancel my cancellation and instead select port to GV to get this work?

The moto G4 is not eligible for sprint complete. The only BYOD(non Sprint postpaid) moto's eligible for Sprint complete are E4, E4plus, Z2 play.
The Moto G5 is also eligible. At least it is listed as an available service in the dashboard for the phone. Our other phones do not have it as an option.
