eSim to get both ATT and Sprint?
Yes - I want to use Sprint's data when it's available, but keep my at&t phone number. I run out of data on my at&t plan. I think sprint's service isn't good enough in my area to drop my at&t coverage.

The iPhone 7' s the red-headed stepchild of iphones due to the chipset used in it. The ATT iPhone 7 cannot be used on Sprint or Xfinity from what I have found due to the chipset and not supporting CDMA. I was in the same boat but ended up trading it in at Apple with their a trade in a give Back promo to get an unlocked iPhone for all carriers.

"maybe some other secret chat app I am not aware of" ...lol, good one...a refurb Google Pixel XL 2 on ebay can be had for around that price. just buy from a reputable seller that has generous return policy so if the phone comes and you are not satisfied, you can easily return it. Pixels have awesome camera algorithymns and are unlocked, so it can can be used to jump around all the different carriers.
Pixel XL 2 definitely looks nice!
Will check it out. Took some Christmas lights pictures with Moto x4 last night and they came out wonderful. Not a high standard to beat with iPhone6 and 7 as reference

The other comments are correct as is the following explicit list of supported models from https://community.sprint.com/t5/P...-p/1020211 (linked to in the Wiki):

Eligible iPhones

iPhone 5C (T-Mobile/ATT Models not supported)
iPhone 5S (T-Mobile/ATT Models not supported)
iPhone 6 (Doesn't support 2.5Ghz LTE Band)
iPhone 6 Plus (Doesn't support 2.5Ghz LTE Band)
iPhone 6S
iPhone 6S Plus
iPhone 7(T-Mobile/ATT Models not supported)
iPhone 7 Plus(T-Mobile/ATT Models not supported)
iPhone 8(T-Mobile/ATT Models not supported)
iPhone 8 Plus(T-Mobile/ATT Models not supported)
iPhone SE (Doesn't support 2.5Ghz LTE Band)
iPhone X (T-Mobile/ATT Models not supported)
iPhone XS
iPhone XR
iPhone XS Max

Note AT&T iPhones bought from BestBuy are supported because they supply the universal model for all carriers. See edog11's comment for how to tell by model number for iPhone 7.

Also all XS,XR,XS Max iPhones are eligible because they are the same model and chip for all U.S. carriers.

Check model(settings/general/about tap model).
If A1778 not eligible, if A1660 then eligible for Sprint.

Need help / suggestions.
If i finance a iphone xs from Apple store, will it affect my byod free 1 year plan? Because, apple store required to activate it on a service. Sprint rep said, if i do so, my plan will be changed to regular. Any idea or suggestions.

I have an older iPhone 6 eligible to the byod free year plan from T-Mobile. Can I add and port in my number and turn around and purchase a new iPhone from somewhere else (I.e eBay) and switch/update phone once I'm in sprint already? Or do I have to way the 120 days to update phone? Or is it best to purchase phone and then activate and port in? I'm not interested in leasing a phone. I'm interested in utilizing byod with a new purchased phone. Thx.

You can do that and it is a good idea to get on right away.. A device swap later is easy. There is no wait.

Check the Wiki.

To communicate with Sprint, it is best to use their terminology.

What you want to do is a "device swap", not an "upgrade".

To do "device swaps", you chat with support and no wait is needed.

To do an "upgrade" involving financing or discounting, you deal with Sales and a 120 day wait is needed.

If it was a third-party unlock, maybe because the unlock was bogus/fraudulent/ GSM only?

Hopefully someone will know a way around it, but you realize that the reason Apple wants to activate it on the carrier is so that it can get the carrier to pay the cost of financing the phone, and Sprint does not want to do pay it for the free plan, since it does not have the plan fee.

I think people have posted that there may be a way around it, but I cannot recall exactly. Hopefully someone will post.

Yes or no depending on where you live.and travel and your personal tradeoff between oost and universality of coverage.

For lowest cost - Sprint
For widest coverage- Verizon

In between - depends on where you live and how you weight the two objectives.
