Guess they are finally valuing their service quality at zero dollars!! Having unfortunate experience of being a sprint customer, I wholeheartedly concur with the valuation of their service.

Hi! I have ten specific questions that only pertain to my individual circumstances. I epitomize laziness and my sense of entitlement is impervious to reason. Therefore it is the responsibility of anyone and everyone who reads this to find the answers to my questions.

I find it fine - no degradation at all!

I ran speedtests and it was just as good as the regular hotspot (which I still have in my older account), even a slow Android tablet (Fire HD!).

(I am using an S8+ phone to host the hotspot).

Wanted to thank the folks who contributed to this thread and made this probably the most instructive/detailed thread on how to get this deal!

I had previously set the initial account/line back in August 2018. I contacted Sprint on Christmas Eve to transfer 2 lines from ATT over to Sprint on 2 Iphone 10s. The whole phone conversion took approximately 30-45 minutes. This included a phone call to ATT to confirm my account number and pin which was suggested by Sprint. This was a good idea as I had the wrong account number initially.

I had made sure to write everything down first to make things go more efficiently. I had the IMEI/phone numbers, SIM Card #, etc ready. The port totally another 15-30 minutes to complete. This occurred after we got off the phone. I restarted the phones to confirm new service on Sprint. Sophie the support person said she will contact me back in a couple hours to confirm that everything is OK and she did.

The TPP (protection plan) on Iphone 10s is $19 dollars. I said OK to this to try to speed up the transaction. Will cancelled later.
Just fyi, I believe they hard-sell this because they mention this multiple times that you cannot change your phone/service etc within the 120 days. So if you break your phone, etc, they don't allow you to change it. I cannot confirm how hard-nose they will be if you do break your phone.

They will try to sell you on several other things. A ipad, latest gen for $5 bucks a month for 24 months. I said no even though this did seem like a good deal. They also wanted to sell me on car drive which is a plug in device for you car to provided WIFI in the car and monitors various aspects of the driving(?). I said no to this also.

Besides the upsell, the transaction went smoothly. Big plus on Sprint for this!

Very good!

"I believe they hard-sell this because they mention this multiple times that you cannot change your phone/service etc within the 120 days."

Yes they do say that unfortunately but it is completely inapplicable to this plan in the BYOD context.

You can do a device swap at any time to another BYOD phone without the permission or involvement of TeleSales.

Just do it by chat with support.

What they told you applies only in the non-BYOD context where you are buying your phones from Sprint.

Ah ok. They do do a good job of scaring you. So on my original line, the phone is having some issues. I do have another BYOD that the online checker said will work. So I should just contact Support via chat to get that switched out?

Yes you can just chat and ask them to do a "device swap" or "IMEI swap".

It is best to just use that terminology - you do not need to provide any explanation or reasons why you are doing it.

However, if you want to mention what problems you are you having, people here might be able to solve them if you give full details. That is up to you though. You can just swap if you want.

If you want to swap on a phone, you must of course have the exact correct sim for that model.

I completed the sign-up for my second year of "free" service with Sprint. As mentioned the customer rep pushed the extended warranty. I relented and signed up for the warranty and canceled it two days later.

My wife's Iphone 6 was junk, so I purchased a "mint" condition Iphone 7+ off Swappa and switched out the phones online about one week later with no issues. You can upgrade phones, if you purchase one outright and switch it with the original phone on your Sprint account. No upgrading through Spring with a payment plan, etc., allowed.

It's a physical phone issue with the screen. It was a hand me down through several people and was probably ready for end of life. The screen is not very bright and the screen is on full brightness. Its really hard to see the contents of the screen due to this.

I'm on this plan since September, my iPhone 7 battery is going pretty bad so decided to upgrade to XR at Apple store, contacted Sprint associate and she told me if you upgrade your device you'll lose the promotion. Is that correct?

update note 6 on the wiki.

Note 6: phones.
upgrade= get a new device
swap= change the current phone

swap:You can swap device anytime.
All that is required is that the device u are swapping to has clean esn, has Sprint brand, is paid off, no installment billing.
(ie ebay , craigs list, older phone from a friend etc).
if u go to apple or best buy and buy a phone outright (full msrp, no installment billing) it is yours and u can swap it anytime.
if u go to ebay and buy a 2nd hand device it is yours and u can swap it anytime.

upgrade:
u can upgrade only after 120 days.
u can only upgrade through SPRINT telesales
(not through best buy or any other 3rd party).

The Sprint page says:

"Upgrades for the lines activated on the Free Unlimited plan will be allowed after 4 months of service. At that time, return to sprint.com and log in to your account to purchase/lease your new phone. When it arrives, visit www.sprint.com/activate to activate the new phone. Any upgrades prior to the 4 months or in a retail location will require a plan change to the Unlimited data, talk and text plan which starts at $60 per month after an AutoPay discount. Unfortunately, you'll lose the remaining free months in your year of free service if you upgrade early or purchase/lease your new phone in a retail location."

The question is, exactly when does that apply and when does it not apply?"

We know it does not apply if you bring a phone that you bought outright for cash. This should include the case where you buy it from Apple with no subsidy financed by the carrier.

But if you are financing and Apple asks for your Sprint number, which we have heard they do, I assume they are going to ask Sprint to pay for the financing and Sprint will not want to pay that money on the free plan.

But I think some people have said they did manage to pull it off.
